Way back in the 1960s when I was maybe 14 or 15 years old I had an old 45 rpm single of Afrikaan Beat. That tune always stuck in my mind and I just now thought of it, typed the name into the search engine and VOILA! I'm now hearing it played again for the first time in nearly fifty years. Still love the sound after all this time! Some things never die and that includes great songs.

Bert was a one off and the music he arranged was amazing, not to mention his compositions.

It is great to see the orchestra in action. I would have loved to have seen them perform live.

Bert and his orchestra were an important part of my musical appreciation when I was younger. Today I had a day off just playing loads of his music..What a day!

From my country Nigeria, I remember in the early 80's when I was in my teens this great tune been played every early in the morning on a program named swingin safari on the radio station ABS1 Enugu and also my late brother that uses the tune to wake up. The first part is as an intro to a Swedish science program they have on TV now days but the "3/4" of the song with "the awema awema sound" was to a nature program on Swedish TV several years ago. I always loved that sound! Had no idea that this was a "real song" then or now, just thought it was short made up vignette to both of them. Well what do you know! :D

Na minha infância ouvi esta música pela primeira vez na casa de uma vizinha. Acho que nos anos 60. Era um "compacto simples", como se dizia na época. Um disco pequeno com uma música de cada lado. Ficou a lembrança deste nome: African beat.  Agora, não muito tempo atrás, com a facilidade da internete, consegui ouví-la novamente. Quantas recordações... É um som maravilhoso que agora posso ouvir sempre, e cada dia gosto mais, e mais...

The Kaempfert sound is unique... I've always loved although it was sure out of step with all my peers ( I was 16 in 68) but I loved all that band's albums. Still drag out the vinyl to this day.
