This storm hit the Carolinas when I was one years old and we had to leave SC the day everyone thought it would hit but then it turned north and hit NC. But we were leaving that day anyway.
this storm got me and my dad chased out of boy scout camp the wed. before it scared SC/NC crapless. We wound up sleeping in the cafeteria [the other scout troops were local and were told to go home.] also, it indirectly gave me a chance for a bit of revenge against the antagonistic older scouts.
@brunoofthesheikra It was very scary indeed. We held our breath here in SE NC as the western edge of Dennis came up the coast. Of course Dennis turned around and came back at us again in a matter of days as a tropical storm.
This storm was one of the first I remember coming up the coast since Hugo had struck Charleston, SC almost 5 years earlier.
this storm created the best surf i've ever seen in Florida. 8-12' perfect glass suer light offshore winds all day long.

How long did Dennis stay? Long enough to see Hurricane Dennis because I don't think he's around anymore.
