i'm 18 and have been wanting to get into some flash animation. my dad says its almost a programming language. got any books or tips on how to get started.
Read the tutorials that come with flash and try everything out. Don't hesitate to learn what every single tool and menu is for. It'll save you huge amounts of time and grief when you're doing your own animations. Learn how symbols and nesting work. Find some video tutorials online. Books are fine but sometimes it's good to have a real time visual demonstration. Also, if you find you do certain operations all the time and there's no keyboard shortcut for it, create your own.
Re: programming language. If you want to make interactive animations, learn ActionScript. The book I read was The Definitive Guide by Colin Moock, which was pretty thorough and helpful but now is probably out of date. I'd wait until you at least have a basic understanding of how flash works to start learning actionscript though. Also, there are tons of message boards where you can get help with coding.
I'm sure M.I.A. would hire you :)
