I think he has the right idea. Study all available approaches and use the one(s) that give you the sound you want. Alternate picking is very clearly defined, so it might not be the best choice if you want a horn-like sound. On the other hand, it might be perfect if you want to sound like keyboards or vibes. Hybrid picking also works well for certain fourth, fifth, and pentatonic ideas.
BTW GV I am having trouble pinpointing your accent. It's a very unique sounding accent and I'm not sure if I've ever heard it before. Anyways I really dig your lessons mate! I stumbled onto this exact same style of looking for intervals to widen my sound to the next level, this video serries just helped me figure out what the hell I was doing on the fretboard. Thanks man appreciate it! Cheers, IC
Jeez Eldwinn, either get an ear for music or use your eyes.. the camera is very close to the guitar, it is a simple task to watch where his fingers land on the guitar. If you are unable to "decipher" what he is doing, maybe you aren't ready for this level of guitar playing.
I have to agree that some graphical representations would have been nice. Some people just learn better that way. I'm having a hard time understanding whats going on myself.
@Eldwinn That my friend can be one of the best ways to lean period mate. I know it can be hard but rewinding and playing the vid at the spot of the lick of interest and figuring it out will not only develop your ear, but will increase your skills in hearing keys notes and stuff in the middle of a jam with your mates. Once your skills are good enough then come back to this vid and give it a try man. Cheers, IC.
@Eldwinn It's an advanced lesson on intervallic study, if you can't figure out what he's doing by ear or sight, then this is far too advanced for you.
Point about picking producing punch, v.s. sweeping, is excellent. I like this guy a lot, didnt kno about im. Not a hype, not a shill for him, coz I never heard of im till now--but I'm buyin his instruction DVD.

Read the f*cking info for the love of God. If you have problems reading, you just might try to use your ears to "decipher" whats going on...
