  • This version gave me chills

  • two thumbs up.

  • This show was amazing!

  • Is it just me or does it sound like the 'I DONT MIND' part was pre recorded?

  • @bbfreak9 Actually, no. The people on the soundboard probably put some reverb on his voice in that part, and you can see him singing very far away from the microphone, and getting closer.

    Pretty smart.

  • This is definitely one of Maynards showcase songs. While certain songs emphasize other members, this performance really emphasizes his vocals...

  • THIS SONG IS ABOUT HIM HAVING A HORRIBLE CASE OF THE HERSHEY SQUIRTS.

  • @DONKEYASSMASTER1 lol what?

  • DAMN... the way Maynard gradually fades in with the "i...i...i...I..I DON'T MIND!!!!!!" Amazing... if I was there, I probably would have died

  • I don't mind.

  • seriously..half of these views are mine. He sings so beautiful in this song

  • I just love those last guitar plucks after 6:30. That final harmony chord between the guitar & bass in this song is so pretty.

  • "5:20 NO NO, NO NO NO. This is MY SONG!" - Maynard

  • @ProjectCarTV Hahahahahaha... Would have been epic if he gave everyone the "no no" finger then proceeded to rock their faces off with his scream

  • This performance makes me cry like a child. Goddamn beautiful.

  • of all the live videos ive seen of Tool at concert, this has to be one of the best performances, imo. so rich. i consider myself to be so lucky to appreciate them the way i do.

  • wow, he really doesn't give a shit!

  • Fucking Superb

  • Fuck me. I know this song for years and sill get shivers at 5:17

  • Bloody hell. That is incredible.

  • Holy Fuck O.o live is better then studio in my opinion, 5:06 was fucking insane

  • It must feel really awesome to express yourself, the way MJK does. The scream at 5:25 is how i'm feeling right now in my life.

  • My two favorite tool songs are this and pushit. I can never decide - not that I feel I have to - but this vid makes a strong case for H.

No other band packs the emotional punch of Tool. When was the last time a metal band brought a tear to your eye?

  • @schneider418 your so fucking right man, no other band does it

  • The best live footage i've seen of tool.

  • you know who else had a middle initial that didnt stand for anything, president harry s. truman. The S. doesnt actually stand for anything its just s.

  • usually into like buzzbands and shit, but tool is actually pretty damn good,

  • i didnt like it at first but in retrospect i think its kind of beautiful how the crowd sings the album version of i dont mind and the maynard kicks in perfectly right after, my god this is an awesome version kudos for sharing this one!

  • scorpion...great vids. all of em

  • goosebumbs all the way

  • I love of chord progression from 4:40 to 4:49

    anybody know that that is?

  • If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you have no soul.

  • @ThirdEyeDilated I've been listening to H. all day. I re-read the lyrics over & over again and started crying. How I can relate so much with these lyrics I'll never know...

  • i like how when i saw tool they had the same stage setup, different stage and effects but the same spotlights maynard in the dark behind them, very cool

  • makes me feel like I don't mind

  • i, i, i, i I don't MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIND

  • what I could've done to experience this concert

  • venomous voice tempts me drains me believes me but leaves me cold and empty drags me down like some sweet gravity

    considerately killing me

yeah i heard it was about heroin, that idea has been around since I first heard this in 96 or whatever but I am happy to know that it is not because that allows the dominant image to become that of the serpent shedding its skin and being reborn which is infinitely better than addiction because its the essence of liberation right on

  • @ChristianelHermano could be bout both

  • iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ,,,,,,...................

  • his voice is so powerful

  • so fuckin raw

  • BEST BAND.

  • 12 people can fade away

  • Does anyone know the meaning behind this song? I think it is one of the most beautifully Orchestrated songs I have ever heard.

  • @21tooltj some believe it is a reference to heroin. the lyrics are fucking amazing

  • @rayneroseren that is amazing, do you know if it is more along the addiction power of heroin, or the journey on the drug itself? thanks for the insight.

  • @tooltj21 if I had to guess, i would say the journey being on the drug and maybe even the power it has over ones body. either way, just fantastic imagery.

  • @rayneroseren The song isn't about heroin, it's about (or has to do with) Maynard's son Devo H Keenan.

  • @rayneroseren The song isn't about heroin, it's about (or has to do with) Maynard's son Devo H Keenan.

  • @nedak I disagree. but whatever. it's not really important as I didn't write the song and Maynard has never given a definitive answer. I just enjoy it. :)

  • @rayneroseren You don't have to disagree, but you're wrong. MJK said it himself that it's about his son Devo H Keenan.

  • @rayneroseren It's about his son, not heroin.

  • 5:20 ...chills every time. So powerful. So awesome.

  • Last night I dreamt that someone did a hip-hop cover of this song. I had to come and watch this video to clean out my brain...*shudder*

  • fade away.

  • ii iii II IIIII Coolest stage settup. Fits the music just right.

  • as far as musicians go these guys are incredible and live they dont miss a note I like how maynard always hides in the shadows

  • What I love about Tool's music is there is always a surface meaning, and then a deeper one hidden beneath double endendres. Many people have thought of this song as describing a heroin addiction, but also a recurring cycle of parental abuse and a father's fears of beating his own newborn son. Why can't more modern rock music be like this?

This has to be one of the absolute best songs they ever wrote and its a fucking shame they never play it anymore, but I guess they have their own reasons.

  • I could have cried then.. I should have cried then ;)

  • Have any of you guys heard about them recording any new stuff?

  • @samsjd I've heard they've started writing on some new stuff, since it's Tool's 20 year anniversary (I think), although it could just be some rumor, but there's a video of Danny Carey mentioning it in a sneaky monkey way though, so I don't know really, they tend to keep out of media's reach when it comes to things like that : )

But it would be swell if they actually did, since, well... Tool is THE greatest after all :P

  • 11 people need 2 be taken off this earth!

  • definitely a dark song that will shed some light on a lot of people's habits and lifestyles. This performance is beyond words, it expresses everything it should be and more.

  • GREATNESS!!!!! I DON'T MIIIIIINNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!

  • Such amazing energy

  • I wish the quality was better.

    Cell phone vids blow.

  • I've never seen H live or seen of a video of it, so I was unaware of that crowd-interaction bit. It blew me away.

  • Im seein Tool for the 1st time on the 25th!!! Cant wait! God I hope they play this!

  • Hey thanks for all your Tool videos-these are amazing-camerawork and sound close to perfect. Really encapsulates the live experience.

  • @brwneyedgurl82 this is nothing like the live experience, this is why they don't like people taping shows cause people think they're getting the experience of being there even though actually being there is 100000000000000000000000000x better

  • at 5:06 when maynard didnt come in i thought huh? then when he did come in i swear every single hair stood up on my body. I'm just glad Tool is around, so I don't have to listen to un-sss un-sss un-sss or some crappy pop singer. Rock on Tool

  • 5:06 - 5:31 Sends chills up my spine every single time I listen to it. Shame this isn't how they did the album version. Just completely eerie, and amazing.

  • @Halbgottt-Yes-when he did that I seriously felt a surge of electricity go up my back. But that's the beauty of their live shows-their albums are of course genius, and I could listen to any one of their songs over and over and they never get old, but they always put a little unique twist on things when they play live-part of what makes them the most amazing live experience I've ever had.

  • oh my fucking god... i was at this show. it was fantastic. thank you!

  • I think the guitar at 4:30 to 4:50 could work as a snake charmer for those cobras in asia. Fucking awesome song

  • Isn't it perfect how the crowd continues to sing the album version lyrics at 5:06, then Maynard comes back in and picks them up with a fade-in vocal pattern...makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

  • @orbas88 EXACTLY

  • @orbas88 amazing

  • @orbas88 tell me about it, on that 5:06, i just keep playing it over and over, it just reminds you that everyone has a soul

  • @orbas88 I have the exact same reaction every time I hear that part.

  • @orbas88 shave ur neck much??

  • @orbas88 Not to mention it's one of the most powerful parts of any Tool song with the meaning and acceptance of the lyrics.

  • @orbas88 It just did that exactly thing to me right now!

  • H is much better live and the changes Maynard made are brilliant.

  • Maynard doesn't make all of the changes dumbass. How many times does he have to say over the years that he is only 1/4 of a working unit called Tool... With over a million fans like you, I'm not surprised that they stay away from interviews.

  • The changes he made singing the song genius. Those are changes are they not? I'm fully aware he's not the only one that makes the decisions. Do I have to be so literal in my comment? Ok, the changes Maynard and 'everyone' made ok? Happy now? =D

  • come on, he's the only one "tru" tool fan out there.

  • Thank you. I thought I was the only person that had that point sunk in their brain. Bunch of retards on here

  • cool out dude

  • 5:06 I have been looking for this version for so long.

  • LOOKIN TO TURN MY PISS TO WINE

  • I dont mind :]

  • danny carey rocks. that drumming is perfect.

  • this just wipes the floor with about 100% of the stuff thats out right now

  • @itypewithmykneecaps oh i couldn't agree more music as a whole i am really worried about all the good bands are now either gone or about to go Tool included. and after they depart us i fear we will be left with a bunch of talentless fools. as long as shows like american idol exist there is no hope for the future of music. i count the days until it is canceled

  • @itypewithmykneecaps Thanks... I filmed this. Checked my page for a few new videos.

  • bup bup

  • great upload scorpion. I love this song.

  • Considerately killing me

  • cada cancion de TOOL como esta una de mis preferidas me traen memorias...sin discucion para mi la mejor banda verdadera de musica con vibra...

  • I've always thought of this one as a love song of sorts

  • H is indescribable

  • better then a never was like you.

  • True.

  • This song is about his son, isn't it? His son's name is Devo H. Keenan, supposedly.

  • I believe, according to toolshed, it is about not being able to get away from someone who is dragging you down. It seems to be presented from the viewpoint of the devil on one shoulder with the angel on the other tempting you. H. is said to stand either for "half full" or "half empty"

  • one of the best songs they ever wrote...

  • I highly recommend that you look up "The Hero's Journey," and "Monomyth" if you want to see the highest level of meaning encoded in this song / album.

  • fucking awesome!!!!! I just dont hear shit like this anymore.

  • i i i i i I DONT MIND!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This songs like a drug. i listen to it over and over, yet i cant get my original goosebumps

  • get goosebumps everytime

  • me too :)

  • especially the part around 5:20 when he starts saying "hey... hey..... i dont mind". i just love the way that sounds. so much energy.

  • Indeedy! My favourite part too :D

Are you on toolarmy by any chance?

  • no, im afraid not. are you? what exactly does a membership offer anyway?

  • Yep I'm on it, it's basically just a forum you have to pay a one off charge for, and it costs different amounts depending what merch you want with it. If you go to the toolarmy site and click through as if you are going to sign up it will show you the different price packages. The forum is quite good and you get to find out tour info and stuff first. Give me a shout if you ever sign up! :)

  • Love the Ouroboros visual

  • People tend to think Tool songs will be about something because they can relate to it.

Best fucking tool song ever though.

  • I Don't Mind! That part was awesome.

  • This song is about whatever you want it to be about. Hence the band name TOOL... to be used as a tool

  • The song is about overcoming someone (or something) that sucks the life out of you.

  • the song is only half about drugs , his sons middle name is H. that cant be coenidence also in the song he says " THERE both totaly void of hate" so hes talking about more then one thing or person.

  • That comment would have made more sense if you had used the correct form of "they're."

  • LOL true

  • lol, thanks for not being an ass about me saying that. =P

  • THIS SONG IS ABOUT DRUGS

  • no. however the meaning of this song could be from the perspective of a drug.

  • Basically it's a song about manipulation, but like you guys I interpret it into what it means to me.

  • Maynard said this song was about a friend of his that led him in the wrong direction and down a dark path, for his friends own selfish reasons. His friend made him beleive that his intentions were good but they were for his own selfish reasons.

  • I highly recommend that you look up, "The Hero's Journey," or "monomyth" if you're interested in seeing the highest level of interpretation encoded in this song.

  • hrm?

  • mmm awesome performance of a great song!

  • exactly squishie, my boy... exactly... =0)

  • What a bunch of amazing musicians.

  • Gave me chills!

  • me too!

  • Really powerful moment and acceptance at 5:18

  • When you love something, you want it and devote lots and time energy to it. However, there is some kind of obstacle blocking you from actually achieving or getting the thing you love. You realize that the obstacle is impossible to overcome. But you desire the "thing" so much that you "don't mind", even though you really do. Obsessing over the thing you love but can't have destroys your motivation for other more realistic things... considerately killing you.

    IMO

I dont wanna be too specific

  • Comment removed

  • I feel enlightened. I never really understood exactly what the song meant.

  • good analogy! but to be honest i saw it a different way. i guess thats what tool's about; its open to interpretation

i thought of it in terms of america. the snake he speaks of is looking for celestial advances; a selfish government. a government which forms a system thats ways lead you to act a certain way, a way that leads the government to punish you later- using the justice of the american judicial system

    ???- "considerately killing me"

just another analogy, once again. great clip!

  • that was powerfull dude shit :)

  • awesome

  • 5:18 i got chills

  • I was just reading some comments from people and i'm seeing negative comments about other people's interpretations of the song. I think that is really funny considering I think Maynard would be one of the first people to welcome differing opinions about what the song is about. After all that is why they didn't list the lyrics in their CD artwork and books in the first place. Let's keep it positive. To keep it simple, Analyzing good, useless criticizing not good. There is no right answer here.

  • I agree with you 100%, there is so much bullshit that people write on comments that has nothing to do with what the video is actually about, great vid, great band, that's my opinion, and that's what the comments should be about, not race or politics, but what we feel like is worth the time out of our precious lives to watch

  • AMENto that. Anyway i think this song has more then one meaning , im sure manyard would want it to mean what ever u connect it with in your life. i get the feeling hes that typ of guy };)

  • Maynard is in my opinion, the best rock singer by far, finally got to see him live on mothers day 2yrs ago and when he sang wings for marie, he said this ones for you mom, and man I tell you with the laser show and everything, it's a once in a lifetime experience

  • yeah maynard and freddy merc

  • If you absolutely had to chose though, would you pick maynard or merc ?

  • I like maynard more but I think they're equally talented.

  • 5:00 to 5:30, amazing.

  • Yet another youtuber giving praise to the best part of the song..."I...I...I...I...I...I...I don't mind!!" Lucky bastard gettin 2 see him ad lib like that live, it gives me absolute chills everytime i watch it. Awesome video man :)

  • Yeah, this song the live version even more so is just plain eerie. Would be pretty awesome if Tool did a sort of Salival like thing and put abunch of live performances together.

    Cheers.

  • the crowd chanting "i don't mind" gave me chills just now..

  • WOW

  • I am too connected to you

    To slip away, fade away

Days away I still feel you

    Touching me, changing me

    Considerately killing me

  • one of the best songs ever made

  • I gave this one 5 stars too.
