The ONLY way to bring jobs back to America is to lower the minimum wage to $2/hr.
This is the only way we can compete with China. Paul Ryan and my fellow republicans need to act on this now. Employers also should not have to carry the burdern of paying for health care either. Go get em Paul!
After asking my Union to reperesent me in a situation and then shoving an unreasonable settlement in my face, I have now deicded to terminate any and all affiliation with any labor union. They stabbed me in the back so now I will stab them back!
When I was a teachers aide in a school system, I had money forcibly removed from my low rate of pay ($3800.00 per year) to support the AFSCME union bosses. I had no choice other than not work---which is not much of a choice. So screw these international unions; they are no better than the megacorporations they always rale against! Yes---screw you, SEIU.
Besides, don't unions in every industry have a monopoly ON that industry? Thanks to bullshit antitrust exemptions, which some folks actually think makes sense for whatever reason. How about a little COMPETITION in labor? Let people form OTHER unions to compete with the current union in a certain industry. If a person wants representation, why does he only get to choose from one union or nothing? How is that fair?
Better yet, UNIONIZE THE UNIONS. That'll make them wise up.
@whoo689 And what do the pro-union people, esp. SEIU, say to the unions that are actually hiring unemployed or NON-UNION people to picket outside certain workplaces?? That's bullshit! It's nonsense. If you care about unionization at a certain workplace, PROTEST THERE! Don't send poor lackeys that aren't a member of your local or national organization.
It seems like you don't really care about the unionization if you send non-union people to picket instead of your OWN members.
@whoo689 I'm of course referring to the Carpenters' Union in New York (or some place close, I'd assume) having a bunch of unemployed non-union workers picket outside a nearby workplace, as exposed on Fox Business and by CEI. Care to answer that one, guys?
And doesn't the EFCA allow for a bare majority of workers to impose a union on the whole place? I mean, if ALL states were right-to-work states where no one was forced into a union, I'd be more OK with it. But if all people are forced, no.
In a non-right-to-work state, a bare majority should not be allowed to impose a union on everyone else in that workplace. I think there should seriously be a provision, if it's not already IN the bill, to allow people who DID NOT vote for the union to opt out and negotiate with the employer on their own. Otherwise, you're turning workplaces into a tyranny of the majority, and the Founders hated democracy. They HATED mob rule. Mob rule is the opposite of Americanism.
Unions were great when they asked for better working conditions, worker safety, a max on the workweek, etc. in the Progressive Era. But now they're just leeches trying to get a bunch of undeserved 'benefits' because the people either dropped or were too stupid to choose college or training when they had the chance, so they could get a HIGHER-PAYING job, and yet they wanna be "compensated" for choosing or going into a lower-paying job because "living is hard."
I'm sorry, but I believe that if you agree to join the co., all you really deserve is the PAY. You should certainly be able to PERHAPS negotiate for some limited benefits, but no one should be forced to join a union as a condition of employment (as in non-right to work states), and no employer should be forced or have employees who feel they're ENTITLED to benefits, like it's some kind of "right." come on, guys... Your only right of employment is PAY!
@whoo689 The fact that you may have to feed a family or may be a little poor and can't afford things like healthcare is NOT the employer's problem.
Unions these days are just freeloaders whose members don't wanna make the tough choice to get training or take a higher-paying job that they might like a little less than their ideal low-paying job. No, you CANNOT have your cake and eat it, too. Your worth to that company, esp. income-wise, is determined by your productivity and specialization.
Yeah yeah. As a union worker, I have no problem with Unions in this country. But if I worked in a place where a Union Thug tried to pressure me into joining, I would put him in the hospital. This video is a complete farce. Some people are offended that there are people who are wealthy and don't share it. I guarantee, if they were wealthy, they wouldn't "share it' either. Who would? What the heck?
I'd much rather buy a product made by a non-union worker rather than a union worker, because the non-union worker is working to put out a quality product for the company he's employed by. The union worker owes his allegiance to the union that extracts yearly dues to permit him to work at a company. No allegiance to a company means less interest in seeing the company excel, and a greater interest in building their own union.
Yeah, you're right--the only people who support or belong to unions are effete, would-be Bolshevik retards who couldn't stand on their own two feet. Couldn't stand on their own two feet because their lack of stones causes them to topple over backwards.
Do all you right wing scum get your talking points from the same place? I mean, it's the same thing over and over.
''Unions were needed once, but not any longer.." Fuck off, as long as there are scumbag companies out there exploiting workers there will be a need for unions.
CEO's give themselves billions a year in bonuses but would begrudge a worker a living wage. They oughta have their balls ripped off with a pair of pliers.
So will the unions make it so all you need to do to get rid of them is a simply "card check"? I doubt it. Unions are a byproduct of entitlement syndrome that is ruining this country. The funniest part is people like the bus drivers in Philly actually think they deserve a big pension for driving a freaking bus. LMFOALOLBBQ at the idiots who think they deserve a pension and the city for actually giving into them. They should be training replacements to all these union workers that strike.
a union is simply a labor monopoly. They make the company they work for noncompetitive. At one point they served a noble purpose, that time is long gone. Without the union gm could price their cars where they should be priced and as w all know, the lower cost of something, the more of it that is sold. You get more for your money buying a foreign because American cars are overpriced.
"You get more for your money buying a foreign because American cars are overpriced."
Re: Consider a car built in Mexico vs. the same car built in Mexico. The price is the same at the dealership with comparing both cars in the showroom, despite the huge difference in labor costs between the U.S. worker and the Mexican worker.
In fact, it's more than just 100% of the benefit going to the bosses. Increased productivity then makes it easier to cut staff, make the staff work longer hours for lower wages and unemployment gives the bosses more leverage against workers, particularly in a non-unionised environment.
More inane stupidity. You think that the bosses come up with technological innovations and that they deserve 100% of the benefits from that? What about tax money that subsidises research? What about the research workers themselves? What about the fact that when something is invented once, other companies benefit from that invention and from technological advance? Why can't the whole of society benefit? Why must the bosses and capital owners get 100% of the benefit?
About the only thing unions are good for today is helping raise money for Jerry Lewis' telethon.
Join a union, learn one trade, and you're stuck in that trade the rest of your life. No helping workers with other responsibility, since the contract gives them the trade they're stuck in.
No merit pay for good workers or dumping the slackers because the "brotherhood" gives everyone the same cookie cutter "benefits".
watch the 11 part documentary about walmart "Wal-Mart the high cost of low prices" see how large corporations snuff out any atempts to unionize by terminating employees for just speaking about it! If there were no unions there would be no middle class! They paved the way to our parents fortions then we lost our way now they have demonized the unions and now the top 1% have 95% of all the wealth they raped the middle class.
BTW, what's wrong with "turning America into Europe"? Europeans enjoy a higher standard of living and longer life expectancy than Americans. They have more paid holidays and more time to spend with their families. What's wrong with that?
We have only seen worker productivity increase overall for several years and stagnant wages.
If a business gains $1,000,000 dollars, the economic royalist Republicans want all of it to be kept by the owner and stockholders. Not half, not most, not $900,000, they think that every penny should be kept by the already rich.
Your ignorant! Unions destroy this country. Those business' that you complain about are growing your retirement plan as well as mine. If you don't like your time vs. dollars wage then educate yourself and be productive and creative only then will you earn your true potential. People like you who want everything handed to you disgust me. Grow up and be somebody, stop standing around and crying "I'm not gettin my share".
I have no respect for you disrespectful little thugs within ACORN/SEIU, sorry. Anybody that beats up anybody that disagrees with them, ESPECIALLY if they are crippled women, is automatically undeserving of respect.
Wake up America. You guys have limited rights to collectively bargain and you have a crap health system. In Australia we have the right to collective bargaining and a free universal health care system that was created by business/government and unions working together.
LOL Watch the entire vid. The guy on the ground is the Union member. Have you been to a town hall mtg? The tactic was to shout out anyone trying to share information. You agree with that?!?!
Are you one of those auto executives too full of themselves and their driving need for "bigger is better" vehicles - when the public clearly wanted more efficient vehicles?
Did the auto worker make those dumb decisions?
Auto execs gave themselves millions if not billions over the years even when they continued to make dumb decisions??!
SCARY how easily the public can be so easily manipulated and brainwashed ----
If unions are so great and helpful to every business and employee, why take away the secret ballot? Won't workers voluntarily choose to organize if it is in their interests?
The truth is, union bosses NEED to take away the secret ballot, because their only hope of seizing more employee dues is if they intimidate workers into signing up without giving them a secret election.
haha, taking away secret ballot, that's not true, lol! Your a tool! haha. How much did they pay you to post that? is this a form of guerrilla marketing by right-wing think tanks.
EFCA gives the employees the RIGHT to chose the type of election, when where and how. currently the employer decides (why is that?!). NO OTHER DEMOCRACY DOES IT THIS WAY! EFCA is about making us more democratic and less authoritarian. sorry, but just read the bill
You don't know what a democracy is. So if you own a business you are no longer a part of the democracy? When you accept a labor job you agree to trade your time for dollars, why in the hell do you believe you deserve more money because management developed a new widget that is very profitable for the company. You didn't create anything, be glad they did create something so that you still have a damn job. If you don't like your job then educate yourself and become creative and produce. Lazy ass.
You think I don't know what a democracy is? Why in the hell do i believe I deserve more money? Because I'm a human being and no one deserves to suffer in poverty, without my labor, management wouldn't exist, without my labor, owners wouldn't have the resources or the times to do what they do, without the creative power of the workforce, they wouldn't have new products.... we deserve better and we should treat each other better...and not call each other "Lazy ass"
There isn't a secret ballot, that ship sailed long ago. Management has become sophisticated at firing employees simply for exercising their legal right to join a union. If you don't believe me do a search here on youtube for- secret ballot name only!

Unions are the only democratic institutions left in this country. In fact unions have always been such.
The question is really what kind of country you want to live in, a third world type nation with low wages, low growth, low currency value. That was what capitalism did to the third world. engorge the wealthy. The period of time when the working class was the most well off in the US was when Union membership was at it's highest.
Come on people; do you really believe this pro union crap! The makes of this video must thinkk that we are stupid... the so called free trade act is dangergous. Please do your homework and understand it.
Sometimes when there is a particularly heavy news cycle instead of trying to keep up with everything and follow all the vids, they throw up their hands and say the hell with it. Then they through up older vids that have consistantly grown in views.

Employees choose unions
Union employees negotiate contracts that provide better wages, hour benefits, working conditions, and job protection form employer wrong doing. The dues are not that much for what you gain and tax deductible. The union as everyone refers, is every worker (due paying member that belongs) supporting a common interest to benefit the whole. It is not just the guy in charge. It is the group of people that drive it.
ahh, yes. I believe in Unions. But there side-effects from Unions.
Businesses sometimes charge more for a product in order to cover the costs that the Union imposed. Which is the cause for some businesses to become less competetive, giving other businesses whom do not have unions the upper hand.
Which, the loss of buisness requires cut back on jobs, But no, Unions can force businesses to keep said jobs, making the trouble that much deeper. Unions can be good and bad.
Section 2 of EFCA: 'Streamlining Union Certification'. I tried to copy and paste it but it's too long. What it does is the board decides once 50% plus 1 publicly sign cards to consider unionizing, they can then sprint to unionize without an election, or secret ballot for that matter. They are choosing, not the employers, If 50% is met in public"the Board shall not direct an election but shall certify the individual or labor organization as the representative described in subsection'(a)"

GREAT question! As there is NO SECRET BALLOT currently used in the process to organize, there is none to take away. The EFCA does add a secret ballot once there is enough interest shown to take a vote.
Sorry, I just noticed your question. Go to heritage-dot-org and read all about it. Don't look for any answers here. Youtube is mostly used for propaganda...
1. Your reading my comment 2. Now your saying/thinking thats a stupid fact. 4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3. 5. Your checking it now. 6. Your smiling. 7. Your still reading my comment. 8. You know all you have read is true. 10. You didnt notice that i skipped 9. 11. Your checking it now. 12. You didnt notice there are only 10 facts Copy and paste to 1 video, tomorrow will be your best day ever! no matter what
Wow, this is amazing! Seriously! Where is the free choice whereby we seek to eliminate the secret ballot? Reminds me of George Orwell's "1984" where the words are changed to mean the opposite... and then people actually buy it! This is really so sad and speaks volumes to the lack of intellect in the whole discussion.
i think this clip is a bit over the top ...as well as your big brother reference, but the employee free choice act DOES NOT take away your right to a ballot election it just adds a new, less pressured way to form a union with the majority sign up.
It's amazing that Democrats and their union allies can call the elimination of the secret ballot "free choice".
It's understandable that Dems want to keep the union money flowing in, but it's amazing they felt they had to do away with democracy in the workplace to do it.
Pity the poor workers who are forced to join a union based on such "democratic" methods.
you are a fool the only way this bill wont pass is if ceo bullying continues. the middle and lower classes where all except 1 percent of the nation will benifit from this legislation
If by "Free Choice" you mean the Mafia Thugs who run most unions will have the Free Choice to threaten employees into voting the "right" way then I say we extend that concept to national elections and force people to declare publically how they will be voting in the next election.
Deal?
I want that list ASAP. I have a few stops to make...
This act takes my right away to vote. This act will subject employees to intimidation and is a one sided act in favor of unions. In order to be fair you need to give all sides a fair shake by taking the right to vote away you are implying that employees do not have the intellect to make the correct choice for their future. I voted for President Obama with this right and I want the same right to make any other decisions that will have an effect on my future.
Unions have historically been a leading force for Democracy and Human Rights. The history on that, is crystal clear. That's exactly why such enormous efforts have been undertaken in the United States in a relentless and a self-conscious Class War to undermine and destroy them. The basic method of this successful Anti-Union War, was illegally firing thousands of workers for exercising their rights to organize. Management tried to undermine our rights under The Wagner Act, or Labor Relations Act.
The National Labor Relations Act or (Wagner Act) is a 1935 U.S. Federal Law, that protects the rights of workers in the private sector to organize Labor Unions, and to engage in "collective bargaining." The Wagner Act drove business berserk, they thought they had the country by the throat; but, along comes The Great Depression, and old F.D.R. signing this legislation. So, the ink was barely dry on the President's Pen, before the business community set about undermining the rights in this act.
a few years ago Oprah interviewed one of many Quwaitee Princesses. During the interview she told of how in her Country, no-one is poor. Even the Servants are wealthy. Please read my post below. If even the Servants in a Middle East Country are wealthy, why shouldn't all of us be wealthy, as well? I am truly serious.
The problem with that idea is the ultra rich power base that runs and controls Washington wants to keep the middle class divided and in debt, the top 3% guys think they can keep the money pooled at the top and they have been doing a dam good job over the pass 20 years. My question to you and others is how do we the middle class organize and put our government back into the majoritys hands
ever since the idea circulated via email, I can't get it out of my head, it made so much sense..cut the $700 B bailout in half and give it to us...distribute to all current SS#s. Instantly, we'd be in the black as individuals and as a Country, all with surplus. Debts would be paid, Cars, homes, land, would be purchased in cash and paid in full. I am serious about this and welcome any serious ideas as to how to set the process in motion, how to introduce it to the Electeds. It's our money anyway.
"If you want to turn America into Europe, there's nothing that will do it faster."
LOL, and that's actually supposed to dissuade us from voting for it? The sooner America "turns into Europe" with respect to healthcare, wages, level of education, leisure time, and social institutions, the better....
@DietLite1986 arizona,nevada,florida....anti union right to work staes....highest foreclosure, unemployment rates,....also anti union because it would prevent hiring illegals...all the businesses in those states flourish off the sweat of illegals...so they lay off documented workers...keep the cheaper illegals..you want illegals to go home...stop hiring them..
Wake up working people of America union busting is a tool the ultra rich power base uses to divide the woke force. Dont be a pawn in their game, how are you as an individual worker going to turn back the one sided trade policies of the past 10 years. Your not and that is their plane. We in the work force need to make things not just push paper or serve things. The trade deficit with just China is over $1 billon dollars a day.
well this mostly about the SEIU. Which is looked down on by most all unions, because they want to stay half non-union. meaning they are willing to give up more then they gain. hardly any have taken any form of train at what they do. unions have always claim to have better trained loabor. But SEIU is 90% unskilled labor. And 85% on tem are illegals. SEIU is global, not just here in the US. When in like Africa they are willing to work for $35 a month and still call themself union.
FluxCapacitor2008 You don't knnow how many companies I have tried SALT'iing last year. Or for the passed 20 years. in the last 20 years I have 2 companies join a union due to the vote of the workers. but have SALT'd 54 companies. Though the employees vote to be in a union don't mean te companies have to sign a contract with a union. they just threaten to close their doors for good and fire everyone. The employees backed out .(cont)
The long term viability of all middle class jobs union and non-union are in danger. We as middle class workers need to organize in some way. We need to have some push back for the downward pressure the ultra rich power base is putting on the workers. We need a organize work force so we have some political power to turn back the one sided trade policies. We have no chance in hell to be completive with Chinese workers that make $35 a month on average.
The market is killing the golden goose for short term gains; our economy is built on a house of cards. Its not working and it is falling apart, wake up dude we lost 1.2 million jobs just in 2008 union and non union. ANGLEBOOT
How are you as an individual going to turn back the assault on the working middle class?
The market is killing the golden goose for short term gains; our economy is built on a house of cards. Its not working and it is falling apart, wake up people we lost 1.2 million jobs just in 2008 and 16 million since 2000, union and non union. How do you replace those jobs? Please dont tell me high tech; 16 million high tech jobs, I dont see it happening.
(cont) the employees that did joins and the companies closed their doors. Now wre in a union(with out any training) and no union company that was already there, refused to hire them because they didn't have any training. Many of them jump out of the union anyway.
And I say "and don't come back".
If they are not willing to go through the training program, don't let them in.
Unions are alot more then just better pay and benefits.
The top 3% ultra rich Washington power base are trying to divide the work force and the middle class, right to work states and union busters are dragging down wages, benefits and political power for all the middle class and they are brainwasheing people in to thinking its a good thing. The current Wal-Mart economic model is driving the middle class in to debt, and out of jobs. Yes we need to have reform across the board, and we will not get it if we let the 3% guys divide us.
For example, Gallup's annual polling on workplace issues, conducted each August, has found consistently high approval of labor unions in recent years, including a 59% approval rating last summer
Gallup polling has shown that Americans are fundamentally sympathetic to labor unions, and these underlying attitudes are no doubt reflected in their general support for legislation characterized as making it easier for workers to unionize
Thus far, the proposal has not been a prominent item in the mainstream national news; however, it has sparked fierce union-versus-business debate in Washington and appears headed toward a close vote in the U.S. Senate.
The act would eliminate employers' ability to call for secret-ballot elections (although employees can still call for one), and would make changes to enforcement of labor protections and contract-settlement procedures
As originally proposed, the 2009 Employee Free Choice Act (in its House and Senate versions) strengthens the "majority signature" or "card check" basis for union organizing by automatically unionizing any workplace in which a majority of workers have signed a union authorization card.
Most Democrats (70%) say they would favor a law that facilitates union organizing, while a majority of Republicans (60%) say they would oppose it. So who's side are the Republicans not the middle class!!!
A new Gallup Poll finds just over half of Americans, 53%, favoring a new law that would make it easier for labor unions to organize workers; 39% oppose it. This is a key issue at stake with the Employee Free Choice Act now being considered in Congress.
Unions are currently using the money paid by union members... legal citizens... to fight ICE in court after ICE raids factories and hauls away illegals. That's right. A poverty stricken American cant get a job as a carpenter because illegal aliens will work the same job for less money... and when Ice steps in. The AFLCIO uses union dues to pay attorneys to fight AGAINST ICE.
I get e-mail all the time from the AFL-CIC wanting me to help with their fight.
The ultra rich used all their tools to drive down wages and destroy the middle class manufacture base, now they are coming after the service industry to keep wages down and drive them lower. Well they cant send service job over seas. All union and non union working class people are behind EFCA
3: In addition to helping workers win better wages and benefits, unions help all workers by giving working families a stronger voice in our communities, in the political arena, and in the global economy.
Lets be honest about our intentions, I want more people in unions.
Im not a union organizer; I have worked in a non union shop for 10 years and 11 years in a union shop as a skilled trades person. I will not go back to non union because I would have to take a pay and benefits cut. The following is why I think we need to organize the middle class.
Unions are groups of working families trying to make life better for themselves and others. So you have to question the motives of the union busters. Union buster fall in to one or more of the following>
1: They are GOP voters that are bitter working union families have some political power and used it to vote republicans out democrats in because they vote for labor more often.
2: They are business owners that do not offer benefits or a fair wage and dont want to.
That was terrible. You couldn't even tell people what the bill does because people woudn't agree with it. Instead you make all business owners look like greedy rich guys who hate their employees. You try to make it US against THEM. Why don't you just tell people that if it doesn't pass that kittens will die and Satan will win.
I think we all should have a choice to join a union or not. But no one has a right to have my address, telephone given them by my employer and then use that harass me. By the way I think freedom of choice is so important that my employer should have this as well. He should be able to tell the union to get lost. After all its his company, let him have the right over his own production. If you do not like it quit and start your own company. May be that corrupt union will hire you.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You alraedy have that choice. For what trade you are in, fid the nearest Union Hall for that trade. go get up and go join.
The bottom line is what they refuse to tell you. I am a union worker and I'm totally against it. As now we have contracts that is negotiated between union workers and the contractors. Under the Freedom Choice Act they will be negotiated by the Federal Government and not the union workers. The hell with that. We'll do a better job then the Fed's any day.
actually Angleboot, you have it wrong, under the free choice act the people not the federal government ( the people that are the organiser's which would be the workers ) will be the ones dealing with the negotiations, doing this lowers the threat of employer intimidation. local 724 v-cap.
let see, next month we go for a new 3 year contract. OMG that how it is now. So why the Free Chioce Act. that will change under the Free Chioce Act. Any state that falls under "the right to work" it does nothing for employee's being intimidation. what it does don't is open the door for companies to hire illegals after firing everyone. But you as all the others haven't read the full bill sent to congrees about the Free Chioce Act nor the amendments put into it. Do that, but be read to shit.
Your an idiot and a liar. Im in a union as well. SEIU local 721 (LA city workers). The Freedom Choice act WILL NOT make it so contracts will be negotiated by the Federal govt. It will and always will be negotiated by your union. What assclown told you otherwise?
I can't find SEIU in the list of unions affiliated to the AFL-CIO. WHY?
Oh I found out why, the SEIU is based over seas. It's mainly based for illegal aliens.
That is what the Free Choice Act aimed for. To allow more illegals into the country.
Damn learn about the union you join before support over sea illegals. As well as against requirement of high school diplomas or IQ tests for those applying for jobs.
heres the truth, becuase i can see someone has lied to you.
this bill doesent get ride of the secret ballot, it just gives employee's the option to choice which way they would like to vote if they wish to form.
This bill dosent force unions on companies, unions never have force themselves on companies that treat there employee's fairly, simply because the employee's FEEL there being treated fairly a union is not needed. THATS what we want, fairness to our working american families. -continue
and im sorry but i seriously busted out laughing when you posted about unions supporting illegal aliens, i dont believe your in a union frankly, i suspect that to be a lie now. how and in what way can you support that claim? unions support there communities that there in, the families and business's in there erea. i cant even fantom where you came up with that its mind boggling.
Well BigJimyStyle, i show my union bug in my profile. Where you show:

Every international has pushed for allowing illegals. They are heading tthe lobbiest in allowing illegals to get SSI, opps to late they ready get that. Now they are pushing for illegals to form union.(cont)
This act will not cause unions to get your info. False info #1. An employer CAN tell the union(s) to go fly a kite if they want to with or without this act. What this act does is allow employees at a workplace to organize. Its that simple. If an employer decides to create a contract between a union and its company, its totally up to the company. But if the employer renigs on its contract, thats when the trouble starts. Hopefully I've cleared up your misconceptions about unions.
I'm a member of SEIU, and while it's not a great organization, at least it's better than nothing. Seeing that WALMART is propagandizing its employees against the Employee Free Choice Act, that speaks in the Act's favor.
People need to support USA goods buy American made goods. Dont have the mind set of the 70s and 80s. That it cool, rebelish, to just not care and buy foriegn goods. Many of our polititians & media would have you believe this, they're in the back pockets of many foriegn companies And just like sheep many people follow them. Dont be a sheep help American workers out be Patriotic buy and look for USA goods in stores and on line We can not wait and be sheep to paid off polititains
After Years Of Lies, even the Wall Street Journal Conceded That Employee Free Choice Act Doesnt Remove The Secret-Ballot Option
In a stunning reversal, the anti-labor Wall Street Journal editorial page admitted today that one of the key messages in Big Businesss fight against the Employee Free Choice Act is false. The bill doesnt remove the secret-ballot option from the National Labor Relations Act, wrote the WSJ editors.
I entered the working world in 1981, and I can tell you from experience, it has been backwards and lose/lose/lose ever since for Unions and working people in general. Turn into Germany/Norway/France? Great? People over there are not losing their homes due to lack of medical care. The Employee Free Choice Act is badly needed to get us back where we were 50 years ago when one income was enought to support a family. Today, is is 2-3 incomes and debt that support families to a lesser standard !
Why are business men so freaked out, if they are paying a living wage and are treating their workers with respect the workers will pass on the union anyway? Why are they so scared?
I am a union member of SEIU.... and I ain't even proud about it but it goes with my job. Why the hell is the union such a political manipulating piece of artwork....?!?
The majority of the people voted the Republican Party OUT because they keep catering to the few with money. Soon the Republican Party will see the light and do what the majority wants them to do. Like the things that help the most people and not just the greedy.
Dont try to keep me from making a living wage, WHY!!! Would any worker not want this, if you are a worker and you dont want this you are a moron. If you post a comment come out and say if you are a worker or an employer.
The trend of substantially higher wages for unionized workers continues through every sector. For example in the construction occupations a non-union worker averaged only $582 per week while unionized workers averaged $933 per week - nearly $10 per hour more.
The national weekly median average income for a non-union service sector worker, which includes healthcare support, food prep, and janitorial services - was $404 in 2006 or $10 per hour. On the flipside, a union worker in that same sector averaged $629 per week - or more than $15 per hour.
Additionally, it strengthens penalties against companies for doing things like firing people based on their union support. Right now, companies get a slap on the wrist for firing a union organizer/supporter and the employee is often not brought back until after the election, undermining laboratory election conditions completely. A fair election is generally impossible with the lax penalties for unfair labor practices.
This requires a 'card check' - it discloses to everybody - your employer and potential union delegates and leaders - of your choice to join a union or not. This is horrendous legislation.
It doesn't "require" a card check, it forces companies to recognize a union with a majority of signed authorization cards. Right now, if an organizer can get 30% of a bargaining unit to sign those cards, an election is held. This legislation does not stop elections-- it makes it so that if enough people support the union from the start, an election won't be needed. If there is enough interest, but not a clear majority (i.e. 30-50% of a unit signs cards), then an election would still be held.
This act is giving workers a chance to be free about the choices that is made about their jobs and choices that hard working employees make about their jobs. I say that the government has spoke for the economy long enough, and now the employees of america can speak for theirselves. people like Rush Limbaugh always make statements that the public go against so when will he ever make a good choice the workers of american so I say farewell GOVT. COMMENTS!
I've read both sides of the argument. Why don't you naysayers show some bread and butter reasons why this is bad. I'm just asking you to use reason, and theory to defend your case, instead of rhetoric. I'll be the first to say unions aren't always the answer, but I'm sick of people in this country thinking it's ok to keep devaluing the effort of workers, allowing greedy employers to continually slash the wages and benefits of working Americans, while allowing obvious greed to continue.
Just another example of how the socialists are taking over. Americans hate the ides of a NON-SECRET ballet. Secret ballots are our rights. Dont let these idiots who are wageing a WAR AGAINST PROSPERITY win. Get the three stooges out of Washington.
unions are communists.....period....1 vote for unions is 1 vote for communists.....not in the best interest of anyone unless they are paid unionits/communists.
Funny that unions were responsible for the 40 hour work week, the end to child labor, safety in the workplace, a minimum wage, pensions, FMLA...etc...etc...etc. You enjoy the benefits of unions BUT claim that they are communist...too funny
goldbugjoey you live in Canada -- butt-out of the conversation -- and you are a restoration mason -- restore old abandoned buildings -- geeeee I bet you like it when companies have to shut down and new ones come in or underpaid people have to sell to rich people that can afford to restore the building -- enough said
Why are yo so scared of the workers making an informed choice and a private vote? Could it be that you know that when someone is allowed to know all the facts they will chose not to be in a union?
That is one of the many reasons unions are dying off, because people see that they are no longer represented by unions but being used by unions as tools for corruption. The lies told in this video are a prime example.
Have you actually READ the bill..it doesnt take away the secret ballot but lets the employees choose a ballot or open vote. Read the bill before you open your mouth
No one is scared of workers choosing. Workers have that ability now. What this "act" does isn't giving workers "Free Choice" but allowing Unions to prevent anyone from being able to present the opposing view (A requirement for true "choice) and then takes away the rights of the workers to have the very foundation of our society, a private vote, so that the unions can use their thugery to badger people into voting for the union taking their rights away.

The ONLY way to bring jobs back to America is to lower the minimum wage to $2/hr.
This is the only way we can compete with China. Paul Ryan and my fellow republicans need to act on this now. Employers also should not have to carry the burdern of paying for health care either. Go get em Paul!

That'll make them wise up.
whoo689 1 year ago
@whoo689 And what do the pro-union people, esp. SEIU, say to the unions that are actually hiring unemployed or NON-UNION people to picket outside certain workplaces?? That's bullshit! It's nonsense. If you care about unionization at a certain workplace, PROTEST THERE! Don't send poor lackeys that aren't a member of your local or national organization.
It seems like you don't really care about the unionization if you send non-union people to picket instead of your OWN members.
whoo689 1 year ago
@whoo689 I'm of course referring to the Carpenters' Union in New York (or some place close, I'd assume) having a bunch of unemployed non-union workers picket outside a nearby workplace, as exposed on Fox Business and by CEI. Care to answer that one, guys?
And doesn't the EFCA allow for a bare majority of workers to impose a union on the whole place? I mean, if ALL states were right-to-work states where no one was forced into a union, I'd be more OK with it. But if all people are forced, no.
whoo689 1 year ago
In a non-right-to-work state, a bare majority should not be allowed to impose a union on everyone else in that workplace. I think there should seriously be a provision, if it's not already IN the bill, to allow people who DID NOT vote for the union to opt out and negotiate with the employer on their own. Otherwise, you're turning workplaces into a tyranny of the majority, and the Founders hated democracy. They HATED mob rule. Mob rule is the opposite of Americanism.

Unions were great when they asked for better working conditions, worker safety, a max on the workweek, etc. in the Progressive Era. But now they're just leeches trying to get a bunch of undeserved 'benefits' because the people either dropped or were too stupid to choose college or training when they had the chance, so they could get a HIGHER-PAYING job, and yet they wanna be "compensated" for choosing or going into a lower-paying job because "living is hard."
whoo689 1 year ago
@whoo689 dropped out*
I'm sorry, but I believe that if you agree to join the co., all you really deserve is the PAY. You should certainly be able to PERHAPS negotiate for some limited benefits, but no one should be forced to join a union as a condition of employment (as in non-right to work states), and no employer should be forced or have employees who feel they're ENTITLED to benefits, like it's some kind of "right." come on, guys... Your only right of employment is PAY!
whoo689 1 year ago
@whoo689 The fact that you may have to feed a family or may be a little poor and can't afford things like healthcare is NOT the employer's problem.
Unions these days are just freeloaders whose members don't wanna make the tough choice to get training or take a higher-paying job that they might like a little less than their ideal low-paying job. No, you CANNOT have your cake and eat it, too. Your worth to that company, esp. income-wise, is determined by your productivity and specialization.

I'd much rather buy a product made by a non-union worker rather than a union worker, because the non-union worker is working to put out a quality product for the company he's employed by. The union worker owes his allegiance to the union that extracts yearly dues to permit him to work at a company. No allegiance to a company means less interest in seeing the company excel, and a greater interest in building their own union.

a union is simply a labor monopoly. They make the company they work for noncompetitive. At one point they served a noble purpose, that time is long gone. Without the union gm could price their cars where they should be priced and as w all know, the lower cost of something, the more of it that is sold. You get more for your money buying a foreign because American cars are overpriced.

In fact, it's more than just 100% of the benefit going to the bosses. Increased productivity then makes it easier to cut staff, make the staff work longer hours for lower wages and unemployment gives the bosses more leverage against workers, particularly in a non-unionised environment.
lordhighexecutioner 2 years ago 2
More inane stupidity. You think that the bosses come up with technological innovations and that they deserve 100% of the benefits from that? What about tax money that subsidises research? What about the research workers themselves? What about the fact that when something is invented once, other companies benefit from that invention and from technological advance? Why can't the whole of society benefit? Why must the bosses and capital owners get 100% of the benefit?

No merit pay for good workers or dumping the slackers because the "brotherhood" gives everyone the same cookie cutter "benefits".

Look what unions did to the auto sector.

talonmccloud 2 years ago
You don't know what a democracy is. So if you own a business you are no longer a part of the democracy? When you accept a labor job you agree to trade your time for dollars, why in the hell do you believe you deserve more money because management developed a new widget that is very profitable for the company. You didn't create anything, be glad they did create something so that you still have a damn job. If you don't like your job then educate yourself and become creative and produce. Lazy ass.

Unions are the only democratic institutions left in this country. In fact unions have always been such.
The question is really what kind of country you want to live in, a third world type nation with low wages, low growth, low currency value.
CorydonFirst 2 years ago

CosmicFork 2 years ago
The National Labor Relations Act or (Wagner Act) is a 1935 U.S. Federal Law, that protects the rights of workers in the private sector to organize Labor Unions, and to engage in "collective bargaining." The Wagner Act drove business berserk, they thought they had the country by the throat; but, along comes The Great Depression, and old F.D.R. signing this legislation. So, the ink was barely dry on the President's Pen, before the business community set about undermining the rights in this act.

March-2009

I turn it down of course.

But you as all the others haven't read the full bill sent to congrees about the Free Chioce Act nor the amendments put into it. Do that, but be read to shit.

Oh I found out why, the SEIU is based over seas. It's mainly based for illegal aliens.
That is what the Free Choice Act aimed for. To allow more illegals into the country.
Damn learn about the union you join before support over sea illegals. As well as against requirement of high school diplomas or IQ tests for those applying for jobs.

this bill doesent get ride of the secret ballot, it just gives employee's the option to choice which way they would like to vote if they wish to form.

The trend of substantially higher wages for unionized workers continues through every sector. For example in the construction occupations a non-union worker averaged only $582 per week while unionized workers averaged $933 per week - nearly $10 per hour more.
FluxCapacitor2008 2 years ago 2
Employee Free Choice Act still allows for a secret ballot if the employees want it.
FluxCapacitor2008 2 years ago 2
The national weekly median average income for a non-union service sector worker, which includes healthcare support, food prep, and janitorial services - was $404 in 2006 or $10 per hour. On the flipside, a union worker in that same sector averaged $629 per week - or more than $15 per hour.

Additionally, it strengthens penalties against companies for doing things like firing people based on their union support. Right now, companies get a slap on the wrist for firing a union organizer/supporter and the employee is often not brought back until after the election, undermining laboratory election conditions completely. A fair election is generally impossible with the lax penalties for unfair labor practices.
orangerineman 2 years ago
This requires a 'card check' - it discloses to everybody - your employer and potential union delegates and leaders - of your choice to join a union or not. This is horrendous legislation.
seafury 2 years ago
It doesn't "require" a card check, it forces companies to recognize a union with a majority of signed authorization cards. Right now, if an organizer can get 30% of a bargaining unit to sign those cards, an election is held. This legislation does not stop elections-- it makes it so that if enough people support the union from the start, an election won't be needed. If there is enough interest, but not a clear majority (i.e. 30-50% of a unit signs cards), then an election would still be held.
