Fantastic . The runs are on a different planet. A lot of pianists use runs that are bull**** runs that make no musical sense but this guy is a genius . I wish I could play half as good . Complete package - chords, impro, harmonys . Very clever man .
a lot of rough chops many making no sense muscially and the changes in rhythmic flow do not hold together - it comes and goes but lacks soul and warmth - if there's music to be made, make it, and not pretend by just throwing notes all over the place - this pieces needs grace, flow, and some depth. There are other, better tunes for displaying chops so I don't see the sense here. Too many notes- a bit condescending. Talent is there but just not pleasant. Try again? or Lizst etudes may work.
hmmm... i would like to see this guy play more "tastefully". He knows his jazz and technique for sure. But in the spirit of the song, those crazy runs were definitely out of place (only because he played way too much of it, refer to my first comment about taste). Sorry bro
why in gods name is this man not famous? everybody should know about this guy. he is up there with the greats as far as i'm concerned, i'm sure i don't know as much as you guys who have been listening as long as twice my age but this guy does things to my brain that no other jazz pianist (bar perhaps chick corea) has ever done. i could listen to this guy play for an entire day and still be enthralled.
I want to know more about this guy! I've listened to jazz piano for 40 years, and this cat can play! A modern Art Tatum (I'd like to hear Gyuri take a crack at "Tea For Two").
Liquid lightning on the keys, superlative harmonic sense. He swings into this number with passion.
Finally... someone here who agrees with me. You've been listening for forty years, so you know what to listen for. I've been playing jazz piano for 52 years and I know what he's doing .. he's doing things that no other living jazz pianist can do (except maybe Peterson). His improvisation skills are extremely well-developed -- great chords and arrangements. All he needs is a work permit and he can come to the USA and get "discovered."
I, too, have been listening to piano jazz for most of my 62 years. What a talent, what technique. Gyuri is the most fantastic modern jazz pianist I've ever heard. Your comments in another post about his left hand improvizations is also dead right. I think I feel his classical roots, too. There's classical training in there deep. All this beautiful playing and he's so humble, and shouldn't be.
@johnbresnik I absolute agree with you John. Some sour grapes comments on other videos of his. He's a great player. He's got everthing. I wish I had those chops
More magic from the best jazz pianist I've ever seen or heard -- I think Blue Note will sign him - then he'll get the exposure he deserves. Someday in the future you'll say "I saw him on youtube before he became famous."
very good, it seems so seasy...
