Da tempeste il legno infranto se poi salvo giunge in porto non sa più che desiar. Così il cor tra pene e pianto or che trova il suo conforto torna l'anima a bear.
If the wood( it means the ship ), broken by tempests, reaches the seaport safe, it doesnt know anymore what to desire.
And so the heart, between troubles and tears, returns to make happy the soul before he can find consolation.

Very exquisite singing by this lady, Inger Dam-Jensen right? But I agree that the production is a bit--odd. Still rating it the full five stars just on the music alone!
What a great voice. Yes! I love this opera! I do find the bald dome of Inger's head a wee bit distracting, why couldn't she look the way she is when singing "V'Adoro Pupille" which is sublime? Modern interpretations are fine with me, though; if they were all staged in elaborate 18th Century baroque costuming it would become so banal!
I can't help but smile at poor Inger's 'wardrobe malfunction' - it makes her performance all the more impressive, as it's obviously bothering her (watch as she tries to rectify it, hiding behind Maniaci).
I love both of them but if i had to choose who was better it would be Sutherland. I love Sills but she over ornaments the B section. Well, I still say Larson is the best- just close your eyes and (if you are one of those people who hates the production which I dont) and enjoy!
Lucky Sills didn't do like the castrati of the actual era were noted as often doing: embellishing so much that the orchestra would lose track of the soloist and have to completely stop. I'd hazard a guess and say some of the famous castrati of the time would say that Sills didn't ornament enough.

@reinedelapluie Elle n'est pas décalée par accident, c'est une façon d'ornementer en syncopant la ligne musicale originale.

her voice is lovely, but why would anyone want to f***ck up the aria by laying the soprano on the floor??
gadella1985 1 year ago
yes very warm, indeed, light at the same time, beautifully opened mouth.I am learning...

My favourite Cleopatra! Clarity of coloratura, flexibility - and warmth of tone. Gorgeous!

@shinawillful: you're right, but what would you say when C. Bartoli gives a Cleopatra ? ^^
In my imagination would this be on the top.
LifeforArt 2 years ago
Inger Dam-Jensen is perhaps the best Cleopatra of our time. There not many other ladies who can sing this like her.
Especially not the Coloratura Queens
at the Met in N.Y. There all singing to
impress people. She does not.
A true European artist.

The best by far! It IS possible to combine great technique, nice tone quality, and expressiveness all in one. Dam-Jensen is my new favorite soprano.

wow, is it Andreas who's giant or is it Inger who's tiny??

Andreas is like 6'4" or 6'5". He's pretty tall, but she looks kinda short at the same time.

Wonderful...if a bit slow...If you want the definitive 'Da Tempeste' go watch Susan Larson's also on YouTube!!

Ehh, not so much. She's good, but if you want definitive, listen to Sills or Sutherland...
