OK, here's the scoop. At 2:20 Donna is dead last. At 2:22 her jock starts to whip her. Notice she is on the LEFT lead and hasn't changed for the home stretch. At 2:27 the jock gives her a couple more swipes. At 2:30 the jock pulls hard on the right rein, forcing her to finally switch to the right FRESH lead. THEN she has the kick to the wire. Racehorses are trained to switch leads to the new fresh lead for extra kick down the home stretch. She looks reluctant to switch, finally does, and zoom!
No matter what you may think of horse racing, THAT was an exciting turn of events. And I note, I did not see the jockey using the whip on the winning horse. But everyone else seemed to be flailing away at their horses like mad. Maybe that says something about how you REALLY ask a horse to give you everything. It's not a demand. A really good horse doesn't need the whip,
oh yeah, horseracing is on its way out...im glad.....the sport is dying. Im glad. The slow motion close up was so funny. That first lead horse was being beaten the hell out of by the shit jockey and Donnaguska came tearing past and his jockey wasn't touching him with a whip! :D
At Damien Z you are an idiot, She ran the race of her lifetime, I have seen thousands and thousands of races, I have never seen a filly come from 15 back of the the next to last horse win off like she did, She was left at the gate and must have been 30 from the leader, That is 6 seconds in horse racing terms, They ran 112 and change, average for this track, I can see by your comments you have no clue about Horse Races?
This is the great illusion of a horse who comes out of nowhere to win -- this mare was not going very fast and actually the final time of the race was just average for that distance. the thing that makes it look like she is flying is the fact that all the other horses are coming to a complete crawl -- it's hard for the eye to realize that but thats what happened and there is nothing miraculous about this horse -- it's just unusual. Anybody who bets on cruise ship horses racing has seen this.
As soon as I got dumped several months ago, I became the unhappiest guy on earth, but after some reading I found a free resource that taught me how to mend my relationship! I want to share it with all of the broken hearts out there but youtube wont allow me post it here, so I put it on my profile. Hope it works for you too!
Some say racers get treated like shit, others say they are treated like "royalty." truth is, both. Some are truly treated with love and respect, depending on the breeder/trainer and get to retire to a good life, like Zenyatta. Others get treated like shit, then go to slaughter. U can't argue over this- it's both. I saw a video on here that a Kentucky Derby horse was sent to slaughter, but was saved. Crazy huh?
the only reason she threw her head was because she ran up the back of another horse and got jerked outside. i made money on this horse, not because of the horse but because of the owner trainer combo. Billy Hays and Joe Woodard at 17-1. Easiest money you can make. All those ass clowns who talk about cruelty to animals, take your silver spoon out of your mouth and live in the real world. These Athletes are treated the way an athlete should be, with respect. Get your facts right.
@bthax1 the facts are in the vetrerinary medical proof in the form of that thingamagig called an autopsy that reveals the hematomas under the hide where the "humane" crops strike. you can't argue with medical FACT
part of ppls problem with racehorses is what happens to them after their done racing, especially if their not winners. in the past they were known to have been given to slaughterhouses, and they require a tremendous amount of training to make them sane and safe to be ridden. theres a reason most ott tb rescues are full, the sad thing is that i've known some spectacular tb that were lucky to make it out of the industry into good homes, but not enough make it to loving homes and ppl.
@blackpheonix1254 if you knew more about racing you would know that the FOB are working incredibly hard since 2007 to save more and more horses, helping them slowing down a little to being pleasure horse and finding them new home and many others people are working incredibly hard too to find solution/stop slaughters since 2007. That came with the search for a cure a laminintis, money collected to heal hurt horses (for owner who can't afford), new regulations..etc
@FutureJockeyGal Most million dollar racehorses are treated like royalty. I said not all are abusive. But most of the racehorses on the track are not million dollar horses. I'm aware of the purpose of the whip. If the whip was causing the horses any pain you would hope the owner of the horse would notice and tell the jockey not to use it. Winning is more important to the owners, and the trainers and jockeys get fired if they do not produce winners. That's the sad reality.
@FutureJockeyGal Not all people involved in the horse racing industry are abusive, but their are an overwhelming amount unfortunately. I've worked with many off the track thoroughbreds. Some shy at whips, so obviously they have been hurt by them. At pat on the neck for a winning run does not prove abuse does not exist in this industry. Again, I am accusing everyone of this, but it does happen.

I disagree in TB horse racing. Its an evil sport in which horrible people which just think about the fame and money - and not the horse.
Look how they race 2 year olds, and YEARLINGS!?! These horses have not had a chance to grow up, therefore, racing them is just destroying them, not letting them live their life fully. By age 4 or 5 they are sitting in a field or sent to a slaughterhouse because their bodies won't let them race anymore. Think about that.
@MuffinKakes92 somebody got their info from PETA xD. Bue seriously, don't follow those wackjobs. But I do agree that they are starting the horses too young.
@MuffinKakes92 They definitely don't race yearlings. All race horses begin at three years old and can often continue racing until they are approximately eight years old, maybe even older. Many race horses are retired from racing and go on to become Show Jumpers, Dressage horses, or Cross-country mounts. They aren't ALL crippled and sent to slaughterhouses or euthanized. Also, off the track they are treated like gold.
@FromWishingDreams- Actually, racehorses are eligible to race at the age of two. They are usually started under saddle as yearlings. Since all racehorses, regardless of actual date of birth, share a birthday of January 1st, it's entirely possible a horse might not yet actually be a two-year-old their first start or two--especially if they were a late birth--July/Aug. This is why most are born Mar-May. #-year-olds are the big money races--most have had a season race experience prior to this.

@reconteske Sorry I'm only following galop since all the new regulation/fight for slaughters/raising money for a cure for lamintis/saving horses/healing injured horse and all it's all related to one horse in 2006-2007. I don't know for Standardbreds
I don't really know about racing, like the horses, jockeys, betting, etc. But he held her back at a easy run so she doesn't get wasted. And at the last second, WAZAM! Let her run. lol haha Zenyatta is my fav. :D
46:2 half - 1:12:2 final time - 26 second final quarter BUT 15-20 lengths behind equals horse runnig :23 seconds OR faster final quarter.............visually impressive an still a quickfinal quarter. This announcer called harness races in NY earlier in his career. I like Hawthorne but dont get the dreary looking numbers, odds on screen...
That was pretty lame commentary. The commentator sounded excited at the time of the run but said nothing afterwards. If I was calling that race I would be gushing about a run like that. I've never seen a run like it but he sounded like he sees it every day.
@bayamon29 what! DIS-DESORMEAUX!!! i heard big brown threw a shoe. please tell me there's no such thing as an electric racing bat. we've reached a new low. that's gotta be science-fiction.
I've seen this a couple times, and all I can think is that the jock's got a buzzer or battery. Maybe it was just the pace. Whatever the reason, the horse is athletic as hell in this race.
@sidlewild You couldn't do that with artificial means. Can't motivate a horse to give any more than it is physically capable of giving. She just started so slowly and had so much reserved energy that when all the others tired at the end, Donnaguska (somehow, miraculously) had enough left in the tank to catch them.
Hmmm Who said you was allowed to use a high powered motor bike in a horse race? I am sorry but thats not fair to the horses in the race. Oh what was that wushhhhhhhhhhhhh!
@elfarawla It's not that incredible. The pace collapsed and Donaguska came home in about 22 and change. Visually impressive, but not an oddity. Happens a lot.
It doesn't matter where you start in the race..... It's all about PACE.... This horse was well ridden by campo and did his running where it counts...... At the WIRE.... That's where you get PAID......
Too bad she was vanned off 2 years ago, but it's still an incredible and unbelievable video capturing her making a historical comeback! Sure gave me goose bumps just watching this, esp near the end! lol. And watching how the jockey running her up between the horses and how fast and effortlessly she responded was quite amazing!
in the stretch she was picking them off and then when she picked her head up and moved over it was like she just came out of the gate! a lighting finish
She started closing but you can see where she ducked out a bit changing leads and then really started accelerating after that. That is an unbelieveable stretch run but 2 year olds can be like that. I don't think the jock on the lead horse even saw her coming. How could he? It was like a sudden gust of wind. Great video!
@fifikusz I'm sorry that I missed your text. I haven't been on here in a long time. We've been very busy with the family. My father-in-law passed away and I'm taking care of my mom.
Did you get to see her race today? I didn't know that she was entered until right before the race or I would have let you know. Take care.
@fastazzu2222 Hy Donna, great to hear You. Sad for your family. I can`t see any of her races here in Europe, only if youtube has it. You are my only source of information. Please inform me if you can, starts, results, anything.
@fifikusz lldi, Sure, you can become my friend on here (I don't remember how to do it though) or you can e-mail me. fastazzu@aol.com. Be sure and put the name you use here or about DonnaGuska.
Good to hear from you too. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
I agree with you. Yes, I'm the Donna in Donnaguska. Here name was Lillyguska, but Billy changed her name; he said that Donnaguska sounded better. I think he was trying to make some brownie points. LOL
@fastazzu2222 I do have to wonder how surprising this was to the barn. 17-1? Come on, they had to know. On another note, if you breed that girl to Street Cry, you might get a Derby winner. Birdstone too!
@fastazzu2222 I think he did it because the name sounds better and because the sire is Yonaguska, so it's similar. I know she closed like a demon and all but the pace fell apart. How classy is she anyway? For a low-budget sire, Milwaukee Brew and her woudl be a hell of a match too.
I would say that the guys will race her for a while before that decide to breed her. They (Billy and Joe) doesn't give me any say so in the matter. I just get to see my name in the program and get in the win pictures. That's ok with me though.
@fastazzu2222 Well now your horse is an internet sensation! (won't use the v-word). I love how the masses think she could win the derby by closing like that. What'd she come home in? I make it 22.1 or so. Besides, she went from "far far far far back" to "far back" by the turn. No shock!
A. No, I am not a closerted faggot, throwing insutls at a crush who didn't return my affection. (as I could give TWO shiats less about you)
B. Im not hiding behind any monitor. This being THE ONLY communication I would have with you, I say it when and where I can. If you were in front of me right now, id LAUGH at your pathetic and argumentative arse.
C. You have no clue as to what the term "defamation" means. Or oddity or rarity for that matter.
P.S. To say youve seen MANY races where horses have been FIFTEEN lengths behind the second to last placed horse, who was a good TEN lengths off the lead, YOURE A LIAR, and obviously INABLE to be intelligent enough to admit youre wrong.
Horses close all the time, however they dont close from 25 lengths back at the top of the stretch often at all.
LMAO! Who would want to be your friend with your attitude?
YOUVE BEEN GOING FOR 37 YEARS WITH MORE INTENSITY! Lol. What a fucking loser! You have NO clue what I or anyone else on here does, so save your "INTENSITYYYYYYY" comment you "semi pro" faggot.
I highly doubt whatever you do is profitable, seeing how bitter and argumentative you are.
Omg she came out of nowhere! Amazing!

I've never seen a run like it but he sounded like he sees it every day.
robinaboy 1 year ago
@robinaboy This is the track tape, and it isn't televised... so no commentary after races, typically.
wolfsmother14 1 year ago
I bet Desormeaux would have given up on her like he did with Big Brown ... pulled her up to the side and stand up ...
but let's face it ... it had to have been a powerful electric jolt to get a thoroughbred run like that in the end stretch ...
bayamon29 1 year ago
@bayamon29 what! DIS-DESORMEAUX!!! i heard big brown threw a shoe. please tell me there's no such thing as an electric racing bat. we've reached a new low. that's gotta be science-fiction.
greatbigbubby 6 months ago
I've seen this a couple times, and all I can think is that the jock's got a buzzer or battery. Maybe it was just the pace. Whatever the reason, the horse is athletic as hell in this race.
sidlewild 1 year ago
@sidlewild You couldn't do that with artificial means. Can't motivate a horse to give any more than it is physically capable of giving. She just started so slowly and had so much reserved energy that when all the others tired at the end, Donnaguska (somehow, miraculously) had enough left in the tank to catch them.

Too bad she was vanned off 2 years ago, but it's still an incredible and unbelievable video capturing her making a historical comeback! in the stretch she was picking them off and then when she picked her head up and moved over it was like she just came out of the gate! a lighting finish
amazing horse
SamiThePsycho 2 years ago
She started closing but you can see where she ducked out a bit changing leads and then really started accelerating after that. That is an unbelieveable stretch run but 2 year olds can be like that. I don't think the jock on the lead horse even saw her coming. How could he? It was like a sudden gust of wind. Great video!

@fifikusz I'm sorry that I missed your text. I haven't been on here in a long time. We've been very busy with the family. My father-in-law passed away and I'm taking care of my mom.
Did you get to see her race today? I didn't know that she was entered until right before the race or I would have let you know. Take care.

Good to hear from you too. I hope that you have a wonderful day.

@fastazzu2222 I've always said the Blushing Groom line is the best in the world. Has been ever since Runaway Groom won the 1982 Travers.
So you're the "Donna" in Donnaguska!
BettorOffSingle 1 year ago
@BettorOffSingle
I agree with you. Yes, I'm the Donna in Donnaguska. Here name was Lillyguska, but Billy changed her name; he said that Donnaguska sounded better. I think he was trying to make some brownie points. LOL
fastazzu2222 1 year ago
@fastazzu2222 I do have to wonder how surprising this was to the barn. 17-1? Come on, they had to know. On another note, if you breed that girl to Street Cry, you might get a Derby winner. Birdstone too!
BettorOffSingle 1 year ago
@fastazzu2222 I think he did it because the name sounds better and because the sire is Yonaguska, so it's similar. I know she closed like a demon and all but the pace fell apart. How classy is she anyway? For a low-budget sire, Milwaukee Brew and her woudl be a hell of a match too.
BettorOffSingle 1 year ago
@BettorOffSingle
I would say that the guys will race her for a while before that decide to breed her. They (Billy and Joe) doesn't give me any say so in the matter. I just get to see my name in the program and get in the win pictures. That's ok with me though.
fastazzu2222 1 year ago
@fastazzu2222 Well now your horse is an internet sensation! (won't use the v-word). I love how the masses think she could win the derby by closing like that. What'd she come home in? I make it 22.1 or so. Besides, she went from "far far far far back" to "far back" by the turn. No shock!

Suck a dick you old INTENSSSSSSSSSSSSE fag. lol
LightningJanitorial 2 years ago
