Do a search on who donates more money. Who helps young teenage mothers. You will see that it's Conserative Christians. More Republicans. I give a lot to charity and specifically target people I know in need and help them not with a blank check that will get wasted but by buying them something they need.
All I'm saying is that young women with a good education and good opportunities in front of them are less likely to become teenage moms - not that there's anything wrong with that, so long as they are READY to be a mom. So what are we doing to make sure our kids are getting a good education and have good opportunities in front of them? Are you saying the government should have NO role in this? The problem with Government stepping in with our tax dollars is that they aren't held accountable to make sure the money get's to the right people and that those people will spend the money on education. We have Pell Grants, Tag Grants, and EOF Grants all that can be applied for and don't have to be paid back. All that not ready to be a mom has to do is apply for them. The money is there for post high school education if it's needed. I'm saving in a 529 plan for my two kids education.
o.k. - so what are they to do BEFORE college? I can see your concern about accountability - especially with defense contractors buying $7,000 coffee makers... but how else should the nation's education system be built? a good education should be a right - and not only that - a good education system is essential for our national security. are you saying the education system should be privatized?
As far as before College I believe that the public schools need to be fixed and the curriculmn improved and the bar set higher than it is currently. I don't think we are meeting the needs of the kids and America's future. Problem is in the lower income districts. Parents are parenting in some cases and those that do the schools are crap and good teachers don't want to teach there. I don't know how to fix them,people and kids have to care. If vouchers aren't provided then move out of the area.
I just don't like having my tax dollars spent be congress without we the tax payers having more influence on how the funds are directed. Way too much of a blank check and spend how you will without accountability to the people from which the money flows. Our kids deserve the best possible education. And college tuition has be looked and and dropped considerably so that we aren't enslaving our kids to debt paying back loans or parents taking out second mortgages or extra jobs.
So it seems like you want to live in a true democracy, but you live in a representative one. You should talk to your rep about your concerns. Bill Gates said "When I compare our high schools with what I see when Im traveling abroad, I am terrified for our work force of tomorrow." I can't help being amused and scared of the Christains. They are a group who follows a book based on a man who was copied from many other "saviors" who were born from a virgin, performed miracles, preached by 30, died and rose 3 days later. the one thing all of the "saviors" have in common? Now Obama's overwhelming victory is a resounding rejection of morally bankrupt right wing extremism, an erosion of our civil rights, environmental devastation. Do a search on who donates more money. Who helps young teenage mothers. You will see that it's Conserative Christians. More Republicans. But hey you guys want the Gov. to take more of the money of those of us here who have achieved some level of success and give it to those who haven't earned it. I give a lot to charity and specifically target people I know in need and help them not with a blank check that will get wasted but by buying them something they need.

All I'm saying is that young women with a good education and good opportunities in front of them are less likely to become teenage moms - not that there's anything wrong with that, so long as they are READY to be a mom. So what are we doing to make sure our kids are getting a good education and have good opportunities in front of them? Are you saying the government should have NO role in this? The problem with Government stepping in with our tax dollars is that they aren't held accountable to make sure the money get's to the right people and that those people will spend the money on education. We have Pell Grants, Tag Grants, and EOF Grants all that can be applied for and don't have to be paid back. All that not ready to be a mom has to do is apply for them. The money is there for post high school education if it's needed. I'm saving in a 529 plan for my two kids education.

As far as before College I believe that the public schools need to be fixed and the curriculmn improved and the bar set higher than it is currently. I don't think we are meeting the needs of the kids and America's future. Problem is in the lower income districts. Parents are parenting in some cases and those that do the schools are crap and good teachers don't want to teach there. I don't know how to fix them,people and kids have to care. If vouchers aren't provided then move out of the area.

I just don't like having my tax dollars spent be congress without we the tax payers having more influence on how the funds are directed. Way too much of a blank check and spend how you will without accountability to the people from which the money flows. Our kids deserve the best possible education. And college tuition has be looked and and dropped considerably so that we aren't enslaving our kids to debt paying back loans or parents taking out second mortgages or extra jobs.

The problem is who we elect or keep electing over and over again. To be honest I don't think we have enough representatives. Especially for the House. Their districts are far too large for our voices to be heard. Now that Obama has been elected my concern is that with a Democratic Congress we will begin a Nanny State. The military is going to take a hit. Public Schools may be come more of a platform for liberal indoctrination. I've just read Das Capital by Marx and Liberal Facsim not good...
