Religion in general is insane. Its followers subscribe to ideas in books (Bible, Torah, Quran) that are downright sinful, and call them virtue. In Europe, a group like this would run into all sorts of problems with free speec laws and child protection and either live shortly or tone down everything dramatically. HOWEVER,
They WILL support the soldiers that return home alive, and mourn those who were killed - these soldiers are their loved ones. Bad enough having lost a loved one to a war they didn't agree to, let alone WBC picketing at the funeral.

Why do all brainwashed religious nuts have that same strange weird smile on their faces and the crazed look in their eyes? I bet Fred Phelps is the bio dad of every child in that church because we all know from the bible Lot had sex with his daughters because the rest of the world was too evil, ironic that it was homosexuality that led to incest then too... Religion in general is insane. Its followers subscribe to ideas in books (Bible, Torah, Quran) that are downright sinful, and call them virtue. Religious people should not be surprised that there are individuals who read their very own books and choose to accept its perverted ideas and use them as a platform for hatred and intolerance. The root of religion (their books, that upon which they base their teachings) must be eradicated if we are to move towards healthy spirituality.

@massage33316 Please I will respect your belief just here me out. I'm not well schooled in my faith however I do believe deeply in it. It is true that these guys are going off of things in the bible(or so they say). Any genuine Religion does not openly teach hate as far as I know. Extremists do. Eradicating our doctrine will not accomplish anything. Its true I'm a Christian but I also just believe in living a good life. A decent life accompanied by a faith no matter what it is can be good.

I hear you. I believe in letting each individual pursue his/her own path, EXCEPT WHEN their path poses harm IN ANY FORM to other beings. Our path of growth should be one of peace and joy, even amidst Life's challenges. That said, let me explain why I find religion to be inherently evil and SOMETIMES insidiously evil.
The Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, Judaism) are controlling, manipulative and legalistic. They are really political entities in sheep's clothing.

Religion does not care about its members. It cares about itself. It does not teach LOVE. If it did, it would encourage its members to think for themselves. How long would a religion really last if its members really thought for themselves? Not long, I suspect. Indocrtination, making you think that your religious entity is the ONLY and ABSOLUTE path for righteousness, is what constitutes its purpose. Truth is, without you, they are NOTHING. It's political, not spiritual.

However I'd like to say that though your views are the majority (I think they are anyway) there are churches out there with how shall I say a more liberal view. Many 'older' believers think as you have laid out. However there are those myself included who are much more tolerant believe that if a person has true faith in their religion and leads a descent life there will be a light at the end.

@massage33316 Its easier to show you but a teacher at a Catholic University saw this example put to her. She held up two fingers side by side. One she said is Christians and that we are waiting for the Second coming. The others are Jews still waiting on the Messiah to come. She slowly merges them into one path and says that we may not be as different as everyone thinks. These are the more 'liberal' Christians who aren't as righteous and fire and brim stone like others.

As I said, I believe that all should have the freedom to choose their own path to self-discovery. I object only to those who IMPOSE themselves. The Abrahamic religions IMPOSE themselves, with Islam in the lead, then Christianity, then Judaism.
Rather than clinging to religion, I would encourage people to look within themselves and learn from Life, and grow. We would have a better world if people followed their natural wisdom, instead of being like sheep led to the slaughter.

@massage33316 I can see that. I know the impose themselves or try to on others. However I will say once again that its the more Conservative devotees that evangelize. Oh Religion is such a touchy subject. Hell I still get a bad rep from a friend because I'm Catholic and no one can seem to let go of what they did back in the Renaissance. That's another thing people should stop doing. Persecuting the next generation for what the last did.
