  • This video reminds me of days i had to call into a software tech support company on old freeport road north of pittsburgh near sharpsburg. The same doppler effect could be heard from the trains down in the a. River valley. I loved that sound and apparently still do!

  • one

  • wish I had or

  • @lotsoftrains123 Thanks for coming to my defense against the aptly named "cockroach." He's been blocked for good :D

  • Great timing with the audio!! Looks like a nice layout!

  • i like how you had the camera shaking... that added effect to make it seem real.

  • beautiful horn....sounds just like an actual classic ns horn. nice engines...its always nice to see conrail even if it is models and thier in great condition

  • nice horn !!!!

  • It didnt come from a video, just an audio recording

  • Can you tell me the name of the video the sound came from?

  • nice video for sure! great sound edit!

  • very nice job editing.

  • K5LA?

  • @TheThomasSproduction The sound clip you hear is some version of a K5, however, the engine used in the video should have a version of an S3 horn

  • That sound drives me nuts sometimes just because the NS trains run right outside my house!

  • Very nice.

  • ok

  • was the conrail a sd50

  • Yes, the model is a life-like proto 2000

  • do you have any more vid with this model?

  • this is simply amazing

  • Hey what make is the Dash 8?

  • Its an Atlas

  • Comment removed

  • The Chessie hoppers werent mine, I borrowed them from a friend... They are either Bachmann or Bowser

  • do the wig wag lights that are on the front of this locomotive are the also operational on the rear of the locomotive also? wig wags are so cool.

  • I think by "wig wag" lights, you are referring to the "ditch lights." Federal law says that any locomotive operating through a public railroad crossing over 20 mph must be equipped with flashing ditch lights. Many railroads equip both ends of their locomotives with ditch lights so either end can lead a train, however, my particular model only has them on the front.

  • @NS8366

Thanks for the info about the lights!

when i worked for the rail service i would look for the ditch lights when out on the ground marking a rail.

the cn high-railer pick up truck if i recall had strobes in the marker lights.

the new rail detection trucks had ditch lighs in the fog lights and i think you could use them as fog and ditch lighs.

  • @NS8366 There is nothing in the law that says the lights must flash.

  • Amazing video! super great sound fo the vid

  • Is this locomotive a Dash 9?

  • Actually, it is a Dash 8-40CW... The sound recording is of a Dash 9 though.

  • Great video! the sound especially really makes it feel real!

  • The sound sound more real than mine! The flashing lights are peretty cool too!

  • What is the source of the sound? It sounds so realistic !

  • Thanks! I just dubbed in the sound from a real train on top of the video i shot...

  • Great sound effect !! Fantastic :D

  • Wow great video

  • That sounds so realistic!

  • awesum sound effects!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great!

  • This was in harford county, Maryland?

  • Yup. Harford Community College back in 2008

  • @NS8366 Cool!

  • love the audio match up. this is amazing quality

  • That is way to cool, Ive got to get my setup running again, need to talk to my wife and clear out a bedroom.

  • LOL, I have the same sound track! Great job on lining it up right.

  • sounds life like!nice sound system

  • thats cool. I got a plan to have a conrail coal train in the future--still havent decided on what to use as motive power.

  • all you need is a 70 car coal train (to me thats long enough) and 3 units weighed down and a DPU in the rear (weighed down).

  • I actually have a pair of SD40-2's that I can use as "manned" helpers so I can replicate operations on Horseshoe Curve.

  • I love the beginning where the loco is coming straight at you. It bobbles and shifts as it goes down the track just like in real life. Just awesome!

  • Thanks! I wasnt even trying for that effect but it looks awesome the way it turned out lol

  • NS coal train with Chessie hoppers?

  • It's aleady been explained in the video description...

  • how do you get the lights to flash and have and engine pointing backwards while one is pointing foward...whenever i try to do it, the train is too slow!

  • They are DCC engines and it's all a matter of programming the decoders.

  • wow man great vid how do you get the sounds so real

  • Through the magic of video editing!

  • great video

  • Thanks

  • Znakomicie realistyczne!

  • Thank you!

  • you know its too bad they cant give the trains those real sounds. i mean i would put a sound card in every car/engine with hi quality sound. would be the best train set ever

  • Maybe that will be the sound system of the future lol...

  • @NS8366 i dont get why they didn't do that now

  • ex-Conrail c40-8w and ex-Conrail gp40-2m

  • The CR unit is an SD50

  • Im just taking a round guess but around $3000 for the engines and cars?

  • Thats a little bit round. About $220 for the engines, approx. $15 each for 43 Bowser hoppers so i figure about $865 for the train. Add in DCC decoders and metal kadee couplers and that number could easily hit $900.

  • hey is that ur layout

  • No its a modular club layout

  • I love that sounds thats so awesome!

  • Thanks!

  • love that NS coal train

  • Thanks! I just bought a whole bunch of BLMA Top Gons to make the train look even more NS!

  • What brand made this engine?

  • Atlas

  • Ya its really nice! Thanks for your time!

  • Thanks! my pleasure...

  • Man where did you get that sounds?

    Thats awesome!

  • AWESOME K-5LA!!!!

  • @ekoslosky It Might be a K5LAR24 Or a K5HR24?

  • @NS8366 How much did you pay for it? I may get a NS fleet going.

  • About $160-$170 on ebay a couple years ago but you'll probably find them cheaper now. This one came with DCC and sound

  • The first lcoc looks like an Atlas

  • i have the exact same NS engine

  • lol want to sell it?

  • uuummmmmm........NO

  • I like the reflection of the ditch lights on the track. so awesome !

  • Sweet.

  • awesome camera work

  • Haha thanks, All i really did was sit the camera on the layout...

  • Awsome dude sounds great 5****

  • Thanks man!

  • that first shot is epic

  • very nice video!! one question tho, did that NS unit come with ditch lights?

  • Thanks! and yes, the ditch lights came with that model.

  • WOW! Nice sound decoder ; )

  • @CSXboy1 its not a decoder its a real train he videoed and blended the audioclip

  • The cars on the front half sure look good :)

  • I smell a Chessie fan!

  • Thats sound is matched peeerrr-fect!

  • Thannnnnnk you! lol

  • I Can Get A NS GP-38-2 For 65$ At My Local Hobby Shop, And 75$ For The Better One. In HO Scale

  • Sweet!

  • nice train and nice vid! check out mine, on the Naptown and White River Model Railroad, i believe i have a video of the same NS unit in one of them :)

  • That's because it IS the sound of a real train dubbed over the video.

  • HAHAHA I just bought a Atlas Custom painted NS C40-8W NS in HO for only 120.00

  • Not a bad price!

  • This particular show was in August 2008, but between the Greenberg Show and the Great Scale Model Train Show, there are about 6 or 7 train shows in Timonium each year.

  • When was the show in timonium?

  • Haha, thanks!

  • SO AWESOME. love the flashing dich lights. 5*

  • Would you ever sell that Atlas Dash 8?

  • I can't sell my favorite engine! haha

  • Thanks! I found it on ebay, It's an Atlas

  • Did you add sound to the video later or were the locomotive sounds actually installed into the locomotive?

  • Yes, I dubbed the sound from a real locomotive.

  • Awesome!

  • That was very sweet...Keep up the good work :)

  • Thanks alot!!

  • I'm not being smart by this but most of the cars were chessie system, they are now csx not norfolk southern. I'm just saying

  • You are correct. I've already mentioned the inaccuracy in the video description. The chessie hoppers just happened to be the only ones available at the time to make the train longer than the 18 NS and Conrail hoppers I had on the end.

  • Did the ditch lights come factory installed?

  • Yes they are. They're actually brighter than the headlight

  • i love the train

  • Thanks!

  • Was this unit originaly NS.

  • No, NS 8366 was originally Conrail 6137.

  • Is that an athearn dash 8

  • Nope, its an Atlas master series Dash 8-40CW.

  • nice vid bro

  • Thanks!

  • That is truly amazing!! Great video thanks for sharing

  • Thanks- I didn't know people were going to enjoy it this much!

  • well....we did lol. great video 5 stars

  • i thought u were the same guy sry but it EXACTLY like

  • wow thats exactly like ur other video called " ns in alabama " looks nice

  • thanks but, ive never been to alabama. I looked up the video you mentioned and your right, they do look exactly alike. haha

  • Awesome vid!! I love the view in the beginning of the vid. I finally get to see the view from outside the cab!!!!

  • nice sound

  • K5la is way better

  • I agree with you there, but in my eyes (or ears?) theres just something wrong with an ex-Conrail Dash 8 sounding a K5

  • where did u get this egine?

  • I got the NS 8366 on Ebay

  • what kind of engine was that. Did it come with factory sound?

  • Atlas Dash 8-40CW. Its the gold edition with factory sound but I used sound from a real train for the video.

  • Really neat! Is NS 8366 your favorite locomotive?

  • I have a couple of favorites including 8366. Thats the one that just happened to pop in my head when i was picking my username

  • what kind of engine did you replace it with?

  • I replaced it with an A-line proto power repowering kit. The kit comes with a new can motor.

  • where did you get it?

  • oh ok because i just bought a NS Athearn Dash 9 im just waiting for it 2 be delivered

  • what do you think about a athern dash 9?

  • I have 2 NS Athearn Dash 9's. They run pretty well but were a bit noisy so I replaced the motors to make them run more smoothly

  • on the ns is it stock or did u put a sound system in it?

  • Its stock sound but the video doesnt use the real sound

  • Damn, I love were your NS CW40-8!

Does, NS CW40-8 HO scale model from Atlas?

  • Yes, it is an Atlas Dash 8-40CW

  • Hmmm, you're very lucky!

Also, maybe I can had find Atlas through in the sites?

  • yes, try "atasrr".com

  • Thanks NS8366!

  • Anytime!

  • Awsome vid! like how you put real sounds in to mask the model noises. I too have a NS/ Conrail layout, but I have no camera unfortunatley..

  • Really cool video! Do you know if atlas makes a NS 8-40CW in silver series, not gold like yours?

    Nick

  • Atlas did make one in the silver series back around 2005. I dont think they currently produce them but you can usually find them online like ebay and get a pretty good deal.

  • thanks!

    Nick

  • 43 cars - that was awesome ! Are they all Bowsers ? I have a 75 car coal train. Just love them coal drags !!!

  • All of the Chessie and Conrail hoppers and 2 of the Norfolk Southern's are Bowsers. The other 12 NS hoppers are Bachmann Silver Series. They are all very nice cars.

  • that layout is really nice man is it a club layout ? good job 5 Star

  • Its a modular club layout. We dont have a permanent set-up location so we only put the layout together a few times a year. I have more videos from that weekend i'll post in the future.

  • That is SOOO sweet!!

  • Haha thank you

  • No problem!!!!!!!

  • Good idea to add the sound effects. Although not prototypical today... You forgot a caboose!!
