does it irratate anyone else when people use words like "fool" or "imbecile" to make themselves sound smart, but reall it makes them sound like some pseudo intelligent motherfucker?
@skinlessdwarf You just made me very curious to know if I'm pseudo intelligent, cause I generally think I'm a really smart dude, but hmm, I feel like everyone has the capability to be smart to an extent.
Do these guys use any strange tuning like a lot of math rock bands do? Like, I've been dabbling a lot with the FACGCE tuning which sounds nicely with tapping. If they do, does anyone know what tuning they use?
i did come acroos a tab by them and it explained somthing to do with that, search in google the ongoing horrible for the tab,you might find it usefull!
Yeah, I don't really like when Indie's used as a genre. It's not accurate at all. If Anything, I'd call M & A Math Rock, or something of it. But anyways, amazing musicians there...how do you write, nay, PERFORM this shit?
Of course it's playable, the main riff for this is actually quite fun. I just couldn't do it with the gusto they do, and live. I mean, if I worked at it, eventually, but never with their order and precision.
except for a clapping bit in the middle that's in 7/4.
thank god, really. if you can't count on math rock bands to spice things up with a time signature change here and there, we'd never hear the end of 4/4
Haha, so weird that we both try to respond to a 3 week old post at the same time. I think you may be right, I saw someone say it was a ES-150 on another vid. I honestly cant tell the difference between the two, I guess I'm not as much of a gearhead as I thought haha.
I find it strange that a band full of guys who're heavily influenced by early '70s prog. rock are actually accepted by the Indienati. I would have thought they'd be labeled as the dreaded "passe", but I suppose the whiney vocals and the tweedy persona help boast the aesthetic which indie tards expect you to live up to.
All of this is not to discount the band. Love 'em, but I clearly have a beef with the "indie scene" and must push it on strangers on Youtube.
I don't mind indie music so much as I mind the label and the expectations which are subsequently placed upon the artists.
Indie rock can be Akron or indie rock can be Man Man. Either way, the label applies to a vast array of music and so the label is a bit useless in reality. You could apply it merely to bands like Cat Power and P.J. Harvey, but no one does. It's a term used to lump together a large cross section of bands with entirely different compositional techniques from each other.
could someone explain something to me, y r bands like don caballero, battles, and these guys labeled as math rock? i realize that some of their songs are in odd time signatures, but a lot are in 4/4 the whole time. im not dissing any of those bands, i love them, but i just dont get y its called math rock.
I think any body who uses any compound meters and uses tapping techniques are considered "technically proficient music" and "math rock" sounds good to music elitists with no musical education; so the nomenclature is incorrectly placed everywhere 'cause it feels nice to say if you're hyper-intellectual.
these guys are pretty coool i got to talk to them after a show once i also got to talk to aaron wiess (also awesome) and i like their sound much better live

i agree, i think that if he was doing equally crazy bass riffs, in this particular song, it would start to sound mushy. either way hes a great bass player!
he actually only does the percussion-y thing on bass live, and he's amazing at keeping the rythym/adding feeling AND doing equally sick riffs as the guitars
Nah man, it takes a lot of concentration to do that. With all that tapping and SINGING at the same time, it's crazy. I think he'd screw it up terribly if he tried to be too active. It's amazing music, either way and the rest of the band has enough energy to compensate. :P
meh. Fall of troy uses alot of delay. nothing to complex, just heavily effected. It's kind of silly, cuz tera melos destroyed them every night when they toured together, and they were the support band.

Dave has a weird style of tapping. I don't understand how he gets those lower notes to be so clear, especially on that old of a guitar.
