actually their military was trying to detonate out of date munitions in small chunks since there was a couple thousand tons of the stuff but one of the smaller explosions ignited most of the stockpile. if that was a nuke, half of the city would have been gone. (even if it was small)

People, seriously - an arsenal exploding just before an international commission was to make a detailed LIST OF INVENTORY before selecting armament for dismantling. Almost certainly blown up by the arsenal personal to cover the fact that a huge amount of weapons was quietly taken out and sold on the black market - or given to Albanian paramilitaries in Kosovo without proper official permit (who really pulled this off will probably never be known).

It is a wonder how come that less than 25 people died in the blast! This thing had 1/6th of the power of Hiroshima blast in 1945 (Little Boy). The survivors keep mentioning how the local "Enver Hoxha" bunkers saved their lives, while all of the gouses of Gerdec have been destroyed. In Hiroshima there were over 40,000 deaths in the first minutes of the explosion.

The noise of this blast was heard as far as Prishtina (186 km away)and Besiana (Podujeva)- 200 km away! And I've heard it too in Prishtina, it was very loud!
