  • I cried so much when Jimmy said: The last time I saw Dave Boyle was twenty-five years ago, going up this street, in the back of that car.

Dave was never the same after that, never..

  • I see many comments slashing this movie's ending. Problem is that, this is not a superhero or even worse, "chick-movie", in which justice or happiness are prevail. The beauty of this movie relies on how a magnificent portrayal of how an horrendous tragedy defines the fates of so many people. That too, is what happens in real life: human interactions are by no means perfect and, if tragedy strikes one of our friends or relatives, chances are that it will hit us too.

  • powerful movie

  • Eastwood is such a fucking dark director, it's mystifying.

  • Sean Penn bested himself in this movie.Awesome jacket.

  • This was a emotional ending to a great movie. You have to read the book first to get the full meaning of some of what is said in the movie.

  • sean goes after jimmy in the end as witnessed at the parade when he points at jimmy..its to let him know he will try to make a case against him and jimmy knows it..he never really confessed to it..he just told sean he wished he would have solved the case sooner which they both knew what that meant but was by no means a real confession..I loved this movie because it is real life..these things happen all the time..the wrong person ends up dead or in jail because of hearsay..damn wife!!

  • @seze70 come to think about it you're right. i was wondering what that gesture from Sean meant.. makes the ending a little bit more optimistic that Sean is gonna go after him.

  • @YourHeartIsTheKey Yeah, I felt sick at the end and hoped to hell the gesture means Sean has him by the balls and he will face justice, and his bitch of a wife (the most evil character in the story in my opinion) will get done for obstruction of justice since she knows the secret and isn't telling. I wanted to vomit when celeste looks over to her but she just blanks her as if nothing has happened. Fuck her.

  • @jegspillerpiano Funny how you say that, considering that you yourself are a pedophile

    I've been watching you

  • that sucked that he killed his friend he didnt even do anything to bad he didnt know before and i cant believe his own wife sold him out like that smh this movie really pissed me off

  • I wonder why Dave didn't tell Celeste (his wife) about the pedophile instead of making up the story about the mugger ?

  • @ccolimon . he was afraid he was turning into a vampire

  • @ccolimon I geuss with the mentality they know dave to have, a story of a mugger seemed to have been more practical.

  • good movie...if this was a real story i bet that davey son is gunna merk jimmy and his crew when he gets older...can we see a kill bill coming..called kill jimmy lol

  • I got so mad at kevin bacon's character and sean penn's character, he should of arrested his ass, and jimmy is a son of a bitch he killed poor dave who was already sick and trying to cope with his life, and jimmy took dave away from michael dave's son. He is the only person in this movie who I felt bad for and dave, I could care less about dave's wife, jimmy, sean, sean's wife, and all the assholes who blamed it on dave. I like this movie a lot, but I honestly hate the fucking ending.

  • @XXsuperrageXX I think your outrage is fine, but it's a great ending as this was not about justice, this was about whether their consciences could survive the damage done by the abuse(Dave) and survivor's guilt(Jimmy, Sean). Each face a moment where some measure of redemption is possible but each was blinded by the same self-loathing, they thought and felt they had no choices, in the end, each is wrong, each succumbed because each suffered to the same degree. Brothers in arms to a fault.

  • @spoonman737 well, when you put it that way, it does make sense, and yeah everyone has their own demons to battle.

  • @XXsuperrageXX

No joke, I wept after the movie was over at the sheer injustice and endless cycle of hate and misery wrought through this movie. Dave's son will grow up as messed up as his dad, Dave's widow will suffer, Jimmy will get away with it all, Sean got his wife back and doesn't do a thing about Jimmy despite knowing what he did. Life is very cruel sometimes, and this movie captured that sense of despairing injustice.

  • @JimmySteller yeah it did...

  • @JimmySteller I felt just like that too, but there is a ray of hope in that Sean may go after him. I think they hd to put that in. Without it the movie would have been too bleak.

  • I was jimmy would have gotten arrested or something!!

  • the last time i saw dave..........

  • the last time dave was alive.... hell yeah that's a long time ago

it's a powerful scene, cause this, happen everyday, everywhere

people kill children, and even body stay alive, they are dead

    dead walkers, zombie

  • I heard about this movie but never bothered to watch it until I was bored. One word-mistake.

I've always liked dark, emotional, and gripping movies but this takes it to a level I just didn't think was possible. I never thought a movie could tear in to you so deeply. It's just a movie but this was is that film.

This movie has no happy ending. Matter of fact, it has no happiness. However, it does portray the raw emotional feelings one has for friends and family.

    Thank you Mr. Eastwood.

  • @1czelaya I found the ending disturbing

  • @1czelaya If you really like dark ,emotional, gripping movies then try 21 Grams, The Assassination of Richard Nixon, At Close range and The Pledge.

  • Kevin Bacon is one of the best actors to have not been nom. for an oscar. I just read the book, can't wait to watch the movie.

  • @rockmeistro I'm sorry i may be the minority in this and this is my personal opinion but i think that Bacon was absolutely overshadowed by Sean Penn and Tim Robbins... That scene where he is interrogating brendon harris about the gun was so unconvincing (in my eyes) as opposed to the Sean Penn scene with Theo and the Tim Robbins scene with Celeste. Again just my opinion and I respect yours.

  • The ONE part of the book that was changed while re-writing it for a script, was this scene - and I'm glad they changed it to this. The book leaves it with Jimmy telling Sean to basically "fuck off", saying the last time he'd seen Dave was at McGills.

  • Penn might be a liberal fuckknob but he's truly gifted as a actor and director. If you haven't seen The Pledge, see it NOW.

  • @tonybrunofan if u havnt seen into the wild, watch that, that was some of the best work ever caught on film.

  • 2:07 is the best line in the movie
