Wow, this is really lovely! I printed out the sheet music and I'm really looking forward to being able to play this with a string quartet. I love all of your string compositions.
also, for the gpo solo strings, do you use those under solo or ensemble type? eg, when i want to load the string sound, i click load -> dry -> solo string -> violin -> then i get many options like violin ensemble 1,2,3 violin 1 solo etc... which one do you use for this piece?
I don't use a midi keyboard for note entry, I just click notes into Overture 4. I used to use my midi keyboard for recording mod-wheel data, but don't do that much anymore, as I'm too lazy :-)
For a string quartet, I use the solo strings, they are more "lively" ... the ensemble strings are more for if you want to use a bunch of them to create a small string section and they don't sound as great by themselves. I wouldn't use them for a quartet.
I love this piece, mainly because the viola gets some of the melody! J.k. but this is truly lovely, it is nice a slow, not too fast like your trying to run a marathon. But smooth and delicate, like a ballet. Keep up this beauty! Sorry if you didn't want it to sound like a ballet, but I think it does! 0=)
Thanks! I've never formally studied counterpoint; whatever I achieved in the piece was mostly from practice and feedback on previous pieces on music forums. I want to say I learn a lot from books and scores as well, but I don't open my theory books nearly as much as I should like.
The actual sounds are just solo string instruments from Garritan Personal Orchestra playing through Overture 4 (links in my channel info) with a bit of reverb using Ambience.
I tend not to come up with very creative names for my smaller ensemble pieces like this one, so I just named it "Largo for String Quartet" ... I hope it's not too boring... :-)
The beginning sounds a lot like this song: What A Feeling - Irene Cara

Hey!
This is fantastic stuff.
You've really worked on the polyphony! How long have you studied counterpoint? It's V. inspiring ^^
Also, may I ask what set up you're using to make such sweet sounds?
-Very awesome!
