  • Awesome. Thanks for bringing back memories of this game. You made it look very easy to beat.

  • Watched all parts...AWESOME! :-D

  • This is the most epic final boss I have ever seen

  • Its a great game but the ending is so anticlimatic

  • hah, I forgot about Faxanadu! I was totally hooked on this game for a good while as a kid.

once I mis-copied a password and entered it incorrectly, the game accepted it though and I had an inventory with several removed-from-beta items in it... some Orb of Something, and a weapon I couldn't equip... I thought I had discovered some wild mystery items as kid... later realized it was just leftover bits of programming that were removed from the final game

  • how do you get the continue password

  • @atarisega1 Talk to the Gurus in town and they'll give you passwords. ;)

  • One of the best NES games you can get. Only thing I wish they had included was a battery save.

  • This game takes me back. The music, sounds, and those damn creatures. Those things still look odd and creepy for today. I love this game, and you sure as hell kick ass at it.

  • that'sit!???that's the ending!??!i got a couple questions

first off,why did you buy all those shields if you weren't gonna use any of them?second, didn't it already show a boss that looked like the final boss!??that dosen't make any sense to me...and why is he such a pushover!!???he's the final boss for crap's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should take like 20 hits to kill him, even with the dragon slayer.oh,and congrats for beating the game,i guess...

  • @subscribermaster97 The ending was not totally shown in my video. Bought all items to show the location of every item in the game. Did not equip any shield since once equipped, they'll allow enemy magic spells to hurt the hero even while on an Ointment's protection. Without any Shield equipped, enemy's magic spells won't hurt the hero and it's faster and more efficient that way, to me. The final Boss is unique. Yes, it's easy. That's just the way it is. ;)

  • I played this game for days back in the 80s.. Saving the world tree.. Ending with prolog " you are a Restless guy", wtf that end sucked sheep ass. Strange, since allot in the game was really well made

  • @kilianguntner well most nes games in the 80s have shitty ending's you should the super mario world with lyrics by brentalfloss as he makes a joke about crappy endings

  • Well, i kind of expected the final boss of the game to be a little bit more difficult, but that looked ridiculously easy

  • Awesome game and videos

  • what a restless guy!

  • ..Nice pink armour Chuck Norris are you some kind of FEG prancing around...?

    omg Gawd call 911,,,,,,,,,

  • Hate that stupid Dragon died everytime i was about 5 when i played this.

  • @LagBoy86 lol omg same! i was up to the fucking dragon and my console broke makes me rage so hard, the wing boots was an interesting way to kill him i always tryed to get as far back and buy like 9999 hour glasses

  • @swanofavon0 HAHA Hope they make a remake of this or put on Virtual Wii.

  • Anyone else think this guy looks suspiciously like Chuck Norris???

  • @shaggyusm26 Ha! Ha! Ha! Me! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @shaggyusm26

Eeek don't insult the hero by comparing him to the likes of Chuck Norris. Norris is friggin insane... check out his beliefs sometime =P

  • @shaggyusm26

To me, he looks more like the midget in the pink jumpsuit that jumps all over in Total Recall for the NES.

  • so his journey continues?

  • @HitaroX fuck i hope they will make faxanadu 2 lol :P

  • WTF, just open my first beer.

  • I always found it wierd how the armour had pink on it. WTF? Did a girl make this game?

  • Ha! Ha! It has nothing to do with that I guess! :P

  • @viperhalberd the pink on the armour must be from Chuck Norris' fallen enemies

  • @viperhalberd Pink is Manly!!!!

  • It's been really long since i last beat this game.. like 18years or something, that final boss was piece of cake, one of the easiest final bosses ever. :) This game is pretty decent and fun to play, but in my opinion there are lots of better rpg/adventure games on Nes.

  • thx for the help

dont know if i beat this as a kid, but i did now lol

  • @equalitykills LOL Thought the exact same thing while watching this.

  • Hey I think you cut a fair bit in between the 9th video and the 10th, didn't you?

  • Each part was done separately. ;)

  • "What a restless guy!" LOL! I missed that!

  • From time to time he would enter a church with stained glass windows. Is that supposed to be the catholic church?

  • Is it that important? Any Church of any religion should be a quiet place for all comers. ;)

  • If it was mediæval Europe then then they would have almost all been Roman Catholic. Since it's a fantasy world, part of the Dragon Slayer series, (and they will ask to meditate before giving you a code - something that was unheard of in western religions at that time), I think the evidence points towards a generic safe haven.

Use to spend hours getting frustrated at this game as a kid (along with Defender of the Crown). Still fond memories though.

  • I dunno why they would call a Catholic priest a guru though.

  • @figliodellastanza = It's called a sanctuary in the game. The Holy man is called a guru. I remember first getting It took me a couple of months to beat it. I wasn't a patient kid back then. Ha ha.

  • @figliodellastanza

Lol, there is even a green - malachite? - crucifix behind the guru in the japanese version, but american and european distributors censored it along with some stuff.

  • fuck that waz fast man

  • LOL. Hell yeah.

  • What a restless guy!

  • @Daquine Hell of a strange way to end an epic video game like that.

  • Look like it's not the first time you beat the game lol

  • 3:57 Something H.R. Giger would of made. :) Now I know why I love this game.

  • Here's Some Information about the mythology elements:

The World Tree is from the Norse myth of Yggdrasil.

The dragonslayer is based on the mythical norse sword Gram.

The wing boots are Based on the Greek god Hermes' wing sandals.

  • Don't lie

  • Very well played. The dragon looks easy:)) N1!!!

  • Good job mate.

  • wtf... is that the evil one? looks like a crap of shit to me with long legs! why not some kind of beast instead of a alien?

  • I know, it could have ended with a hard boss like the one in Crystalis. That was a hard boss to fight.

  • wow now you got the dragon blade and you can use all the equipment :)

  • You're right vankook!

  • Without a doubt one of the greatest games for the NES. I would really like to see a re-make/update for this one. Nintendo does it for just about every other game they've ever put out, why not this one?

  • isnt really a nintendo game. its only licensed for nintendo but theres another company involved. so maybe they should remake it?

  • dude, you have my support...

  • Great job, One of the favs from back in the day.

  • Great game with great atmosphere. Was one of my favorites back then. It was cool how you could see the armor and weapons on the character which was rare at the time.

  • I love his full knight armor after the Dragon Slayer! I read that there was a cheat code that allows all items, is this true so that I may start the game with full armor? (Even though that is lame of me)

  • I once saw a video on YouTube of a guy who showed such a password. He really started the game with full Armor at the very beginning. However, unfortunately, he seems to have removed that video.

  • The first time I beat Faxanadu I got so lost in the last part here! That was a long time ago, and I thought I was good. You are awesome at this dude!

  • oh thats why you couldnt use the battle helm or armor you need the dragon slayer!

  • Exactly!! ;)

  • I don't believe I ever beat the game, pretty sure my dad did because I remember the ending scene like it was yesterday.

  • nice man good job i love the "Do you need a ring to open a door?" LOL and "Such a restless guy " GREAT GAME one of the best.

  • I still can't believe my dad beat this game, but I never did. /sigh

  • Thanks for uploading this series. This was a game that haunted me as a kid. I was only 5-6 when I got it for NES and I pretty much just wondered around aimlessly and never got far.

  • This game is amazing.

Although I always found the endings to NES games to be very lackluster and anticlimactic, good thing the gameplay makes up for it in this case

  • killed that shit.

  • Thats nice! I´ll to finish it beating my time record knowing this ^^.

Also is good to know that without the shield you are not affected by magic spells during the effect of the oinment. I remember that i was frustrated because the oinment didn´t work with this atacks ^^.

And for last, i thought the pendant was obligatory for finishing the game. But if its not ¿why do you go to the tower? Killing that boss is a must maybe?

Thabks for answers and good job!

  • I am so glad to be able to talk about this game after all those years!!! I defeated the Boss that gives the Pendant just to show the location of the item, nothing more! In fact, the only "permanent" items we need to finish the game are the four Rings (to open some doors and push the fountain rock), the Black Onyx (to be able to get A/Ace keys), the Battle Helmet+Battle Suit (to be able to get the third Ring), and the Dragon Slayer (to be able to get the fourth Ring). Don't take the Pendant! ;)

  • I think I did everything we can do in this game1 I ended a game without using any Weapon, just Magic! I also did the opposite, only Weapons, no Magic! I even did a game with onle the Dagger and The Deluge Magic until the end of the game! I always loved challenges in the games I loved! ;)

  • Oh! And another interesting trick! You must know that with 45000 Experience Points, you can talk to a Guru to become a Lord, and get 15000 GP when you come back to play using a password. However, being Lord has one bad side. When we are Beginner, Wing Boots last 40 seconds! When we are Lord, they only last 10 seconds! ;)

  • I didnt know that tricks to get the hiden items. Sometimes i got the matock in the first tower near the entrance, as you, but most of times had to kill the boss to get it, cose y really didn´t know why it appeared or not. Same with the other hidden items (some of them i even didn´t know that existed ^^). I guess the trick is that ir appear when you visit the screen X times. Im right?

  • It reappears each four screens in which items can be found. It's that simple! Knowing it, it's easier to discover where items can be found with that trick! ;)

  • Hi!

Im a Faxanadu fanatic (not as you ^^) and i really enjoyed this videos, fantastic job! I think getting that exp at the beggining took you more time that going throug the entire game :P.

  • Totally right!!! :)

  • Wow...that has to be the most intelligent use of ointment and bonus items I've ever seen! I thought I knew this game inside and out but I learned a few things, really awesome vids! One of my favorite games but the large amount of bugs (crappy pendant, no magic def with the Helmet, etc) is still frustrating. BTW, did you forgo using the shields to avoid seeing the goofy way the hero bops his head up and down? LOL...that and the eye ball blinking shopkeepers always gets me!!! :D

  • HA! HA! HA! I didn't equip the Shield because when it is equipped, we can receive Magic hits even when using an Ointment, which doesn't happen when we don't have a Shield equipped. So, almost as you said, I used everything to my advantage! ;)

  • Artificalraven shows the ending.

  • Bravo. This is one of my all-time favorite NES games.

  • Just watched all of your videos from Faxanadu.

I always wanted to play the game, but i never got a NES. :(

You rushed through the game, but i think, you know it anyway ;)

Is the world greater than the 10 youtube-videos?

You go past some "castles", are they accessible?

    Many thanks.

  • Much respect! My pleasure too! ;)

In the whole run (10 videos), I showed every important place we have to go. All other places are accessible indeed. And, we can really say that I showed approximately almost all of Faxanadu's world. However, there were some places a little bigger than I showed. As you said, I rushed through the game. ;)

  • if you use the sand clock before entering the room, the dragon won´t shoot fire balls

  • i just watched all of yoir faxandu videos as well. just wanted to say kudos. iv had the game 17 years and still have yet to beat it but with your walkthrough i can now. thnx

  • the toughest ending boss in video game history! LOL!

  • I love the final armor! :O

By the way, what's the point of a rod with the form of a duck? I've never known its utility :p

  • It is said that it increases magic power. ;)

  • Oh, thanks for replying :-)

    Great video ^.^

  • I always answer questions people ask me! Thank you very much! ;)

  • I have watched most of your videos of faxanadu today,, your gameplay skills are decent.. have you ever thought of trying for the world record for this game on twin galaxies??

  • No really... Can you tell me more about it please? :)

  • I just beat this game in just over 4 hours (pause breaks included), via emulation. I remember when I first played Faxanadu, it was my 2nd or 3rd NES game when I was 6. I never completed this game originally until I was 9, the passwords annoyed me cause they were too long, luckily via emulation there are save states that resume at any saved point other than the church where passwords (via the original cartridge) resume.

  • Because I wanted to only show the gameplay. My role ends with showing all important items of the games I loved in my childhood... Anyway, there are people who specialize into showing those endings. So...

  • i watched all 10 episodes, i've never been able to complete this game, i've seen my dad and brother beat it on the classic nes like 10 years ago, now i just got it on the emulator, it was fun to see how to win this game the speedy way, thanks for posting this! :D

  • My pleasure!!! ;)

  • tks for posting this! this was one of my favorite games for NES, when I was a kid! the music, the story, and the visual graphics were really awesome.

However, I remember that I was a little disapointed with the last evil guy at the end ahahahh

  • My pleasure!!! Sure, this game will always be THE classic for me! I am glad I could show everyone my game play at it! ;)

  • Well done! Just because of your posts, I went out and bought Faxanadu for my NES. Today I made it to the Tower of Suffer, but died and went to my mantra in Apolune :P. I restarted, and the game froze right before Mascon. I guess I really am reliving the old days of NES!! Anyways, great posts.

  • Thank you very much! And... Great to see that there's still lots of lovers of this NES classic! ;)

  • Yo holmes,

That was some serious stuff. I beat this game when I was 11yrs old, it was super tough. And for sure, it took me over 2 weeks bakkk then. Thanks for the post holmes, was def. badazz.

    Al rato ese.....

  • i remember this game back in the day, was my fav..

  • ty for postin! Brought back alotta memories. :)

  • You're welcome! ;)

  • The last boss wasn't that hard to beat.

  • Always been very easy. ;)

  • first comment in 2 months! :P

the story between the elves and dwarves (their conflict) really really reminds me of neverwinter nights. in NWN, there's a part of the story where elves and dwarves were hostile to each other, but only influenced by a greater evil power, like the evil one.

then there were 2 worlds. one you were friends with dwarves and elves were your enemy, the other exactly opposite. it's weird how this game relates to that, or that relates to this. :P

    anyways good job! :D

  • I have been putting playing this game off for the longest time. Thanks to you, I am going to stop that procrastination! Good job!

  • thanks for posting this game!Faxanadu is one of the dopest games form my childhood. Thank you for reviving this fountain!

  • This was my dad's fave game. you shoulda seen the look on his face when I downloaded the emulator and this ROM. Thanks for everything you do HalDanGhor.

ps. my dad's name is Dan ;)

  • My pleasure guys! ;)

  • Great work, dude. You know some good tricks on how to get free ointments and wing boots. That helped me a lot. Maybe now I can finish this game. That last boss is an ugly motherf*cker!

  • I actually played through this game back in the days. Great game and an awesome playthrough by you. One question though. In that foggy place, isn't there a secret shop somewhere? My memory is kinda vague, and I'm not certain at all, but I seem to remember something like that. Also, are you using the shields? and if not, why aren't you?

  • The famous secret shop can be found in the foggy place. You are right about it. Check my "Faxanadu Complete Game Part 4" at 3:11. Just above the hero will be a ladder leading to the image above. It is exactly where the shop is. ;)

  • Why am I not using the shields? Excellent question dude! I noticed that the even if the shields are strong against magic, they allow magic to hit the hero even if he drinks an ointment. So, in order to be more effective in my game, I decided not to use the shields! ;)

  • ok mate. Thx for the quick answers! Excellent playthrough. Hope to see more. And also, keep up the good work. We all love the old nes classics! =)

  • Thank you a lot!!! Sure, I'll keep up the good work! Old NES classics will never die!!! ;)

  • Now that I think of it, yeah I have seen your Castlevania II run some days ago. I really enjoyed it as much as watching you on Faxanadu. I enjoyed Castlevania a little more because I made it further in that game and I understand it a lot better than Faxanadu. Great Job!

  • Okay. I understand your reasons. Both are great NES games and I could not tell which I like most! ;)

  • Bravo HalDanGhor, masterful play.

  • Thanks a lot dude! By the way, did you see my Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest run? It looks like my Faxanadu run a lot! Thanks again for all your good comments! You seem to love lots of games as I do! ;)

  • Wow Hal, I know that Faxanadu is a great game, but when I've seen your video, it looks greater than before...

    Congratulations bro !

  • Thank you a lot brother! Yes, I did the best I could to show this beautiful game to all who are interested in seeing me play! Happy to see that you enjoyed it! ;)

  • Wow man, great and difficult game. You are a hard player of nintendo system. Congratulations for your video! 5 stars for you!

  • I couln't say this game is difficult, but it is really one of the most entertaining games I ever played! ;)
