  • lol the duck on papageno's hat :D So beautiful words, so beautiful music <3

  • breathless......so beautiful

  • BEST

    PAPAGENO

    EVER

  • Excellent job by both!

  • we did the magic flute in our school. HUGE project. It was pretty cool. I got to play clarinet, i was maybe 10, so not anything too hard. But still. It was grate.

  • This isn't the duet between papageno and papagena but rather the papgeno and Pamina. Which is beautiful but does not feature Papagena

  • As well as their most suitable voices, the characterisation is just perfect.I especially love the end bit where Pamina realises there are things to do -lets go.She grabs Paps hand & off they go!! He runs like a loose goose-she throws two hand actions out to the side as they turn the corner.I love it.Have watched it a few hundred times, too!!!

  • This is a beautiful version! I looooove the way she sings 3:00-3:02.

  • Her voice is like... BUTTER. it is so smooth and... like... gorgeous. And Papageno is on up there, too;) But I am more impressed with Pamina, or Dorothea Röschmann!!!OMG Beautiful. Just Beautiful.

  • One of the highlights of this marvelous opera. Dorothea is more charming than ever!

  • Soft and deep. Wonderful!

  • Both singers are awesome! I've never heard anything more melodious than Dorothea Roschmann's voice. It's blissful.

  • Brilliant. At her best, which was around this time, Dorothea Roschmann was just incomparable in the perpetually-undercast role of Pamina. Both singers are wonderful and so deeply moving in this gorgeous duet. Who could ask for more?

  • Absolutely gorgeous!!!

  • @Haaglander I totally agree! <33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333

  • The only way I can describe her voice is just "full." It's so thick and smooth. Just absolutely beautiful. And of course Simon Keenlyside is wonderful and a babe.

  • look for this " Die Zauberflöte (5) Pamina & Papageno "

  • If it 'were' dont' you think there would have been a cam recording by now? Idiots...

  • Just about the most charming thing I've ever seen and/or heard. When she leads him downstage and they sit on the apron, well, I get a little verklempt. And then they hold hands! This production has everything, especially with Damrau who scares the hell out of me!

jantigercat is correct, it is like Christmas.

  • @presbyterosBassI : I'll watch this opera on Christmas Eve this year. This rendition reinstates back my faith in humanity regardless what happened to me 3 months ago.

  • i like the look on ger face and the position of her body ...she really digs deep for those notes at 3:12-3:14

  • Such reminiscence comes to me when I hear this duet. It's like Christmas...

  • My Mozart fix for the Saturday morning.

  • @amsfrog66

A Mozart a day, keeps the Doctor away. :)

  • @Haaglander :-)

  • @Haaglander

    as händel does ;)

  • @lakritzeslena

Yes, he also .... and J. S. Bach too of course. ;)

  • I`m musically falling in love with Roschmann, she has such a beautiful, soft, warm voice and always adds charm, delicacy and elegance to everything she sings. Keenlyside is also wonderful sad-for-love Papageno here. An amazing lyric performance for soul, ears and eyes.

  • simon keenlyside was born for this. mozart would have given him the part...

  • @1cheshirecat

whom else:-)? he would have written operas only for SImon.

  • Dorothea charming and excellent, as always; What a beauty on top of that

  • I have a version of Die Zauberflote recorded by London Opera, 1991

I guess that's the best version of opera so far listened by me.. and I'm a collector of this opera.

  • ive fallen in love with these voices. this is GREAT sound quality!

  • Does somebody hear know where or how is possible to get a recording of Simon Keenlyside´s Eugen Onegin ? Thank you for your help.

  • PAMINA, PAPAGENO

  • I really love the Dorothea´s voice...

  • This is my favorite rendition of this duet on youtube. The singing is wonderful. But I especially like the acting, such as when Papageno becomes a little embarrased at 2:23 when Pamina looks at him.

  • @samman7324

are you sure he is only pretending to be embarassed :-)) ?

  • @eurydike I should say I like how the actor/singer portrays Papageno's reaction. No doubt Papageno the character is shy and a little flustered by the beauty of Pamina.

  • @samman7324

such natural acting. He is so good.

  • amazing.

  • Who is she!!!!??? both voices are BEAUTIFUL!! Wonderful interpretation!!

  • She's Dolly (Dorothea) Roschmann, one of my favourite Paminas.

  • @DonRolini

i like his voice every day more and more :-)

  • @DonRolini dorothea roschmann.

  • Damn, he's sexy!

  • @rossmcl177

how could she choose Tamino :-) over Papageno:-) ?

  • Truly beautiful

  • That is precious!

  • OAS AAS LLS!

  • LOL @ stradiwannabe :-) your are so sweet :-) ok, I send him another hug :-)

  • OMG, he is so cute! Perfect Papageno!

  • They look kinda shabby, but omg the singing :)

  • My favorite ever operatic duet!

  • Quel triste papageno. C'est vrai qu'aujourd'hui le portrait du pauvre est le SDF. Pauvre papageno !

  • That is one SAD Papageno.

I want to give him a hug. :(

  • I wonder if you guys are able to understand what they sing...because they have been keeping the original language from years, even when they r starring around the world

  • Check out Lily89ibz's videos of this prod., they have subtitles!

Anyway I do understand very little, but it's still awesome!!!!!!

  • Love her voice.

  • Both of them such amazing, smooth and rich voice.... Aww. So amazing.

  • have you ever seen this in savonlinna operafestivals

  • 3:13 the note she hits here is pretty amazing for a soprano.. i love how low that sounds... gorgeous... she reall gets down there.. her exxpression and body language are cool too

  • FANTASTIC version of this beautiful duet. I am singing this myself soon and will take a lot from this!

  • VERY Sweet!

  • Whats the name of this duet?

  • "Bei Männern welche Liebe fühlen"

  • It is known as 'Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen' something like 'in men, who feel love' (a good heart is not lacking).

  • super

  • I love this duet~

  • Charming! I love both of these singers and this production is the best I've ever seen on Die Zauberflote!

  • David McVicar is a !#$%ing genius, basically ;-)

His Manon is the best take on a sappy French opera I have EVER seen.

  • To those who patiently wait for love, they find she comes, nor tarries long, for love is all the theme of life, the theme of life and of our song.

I was in this opera three years ago, and I still have that part memorized

  • they sing with such sincerity especially pamina i dont know the singer-actress name but she does a wonderful job!

  • That is Dorothea Roschmann. I'm adore her voice! She does an amazing Fiordiligi too!

  • i don't think his voice is low at all!!! in his first phrase he sings an Eb easily.

besides it varies between europe and america, some prefer Papageno and other similar roles to be sung by a baritone, but the other prefers bass-baritone. it's really a matter of cultural background i suppose....

  • oh my!

  • In the next cd Diana must sing this whith him....

  • i'm named Pamina cuz this opera

  • I like this song a lot and they both are very good singers. However it seems like she's too loud, or he's not loud enough. Am I just not hearing it right?

  • I think generally a soprano voice carries better than a bariton s voice, but i might be wrong..

  • Yes, that's correct. The lower the pitch, the slower it travels.

  • Although his performance is fantastic, I don't think he was having the BEST night of his life. You can hear his voice "gurgle and crackle" at times... I'm sure he wasn't trying to push it, but you make a good point.

  • Having performed the role of Papageno, I can tell that the problem with this duet is that his part is too lower-central part of the voice for the baritone, with the exception of the "reichen an". The soprano part is almost always on her central higher register, therefor it's really annoying for the baritone... especially when you have to perform it with a semi-spinto soprano like Dorothea...

  • i think it just seems that way because the part might almost be too low for him, he looks kind of uncomfortable at some of the lower parts

  • they sing about the love and the fact that men and women match together perfectly. It is called "Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen" which means "Men, who can feel love"

  • its a beautiful piece, but I have NO IDEA what they're saying....

    I still like this best

  • wow, the Pamina is really beautiful.

  • I love the duet! I love the baritone and of cours the best pamina I ever heard....her voice is so pretty

  • of all the videos on here, this is my favorite production of magic flute. we're doing this next spring semester at my university (indiana wesleyan). i'm playing papageno. i've been getting lots of inspiration from simon keenlyside!

  • Dorothea Röschmann has to be my favourite Pamina. Her voice is just so beautiful. She is just so perfect for the role in my opinion :)

  • i want to hug simon keenlyside.

  • I'd like to see a more colourful version. Its so grey. You sit there fore some ours in the theatre and it is pleasant to see a fine show.

But they are singing beautiful !!

    Hans NL

  • Can you post the Papageno Papagena duet from this production? Thanks for all the helpful vidoes!

  • I wanna see it too!!

  • Me three!

  • I'm gonna warn you...it's a bit odd. I have the DVD, and let's just say this version's Papagena is nothing like any other oe you'll ever see!

  • But its my favorite! Could you upload it for us? That would be beyond super!! =)

  • Love it!!!

  • i saw this on dvd.... sigh... i am in love with this production!!

  • this is really nice bravo mozart

  • I love the hat of Papageno!! XD

  • she is so beautiful...and her voice?!more!!!

  • Ive never seen this opera, but as a fluke, i just started to take up opera and i have to do this duet in our music dept.'s upcoming production. And in actually learning the techniques, i have a whole new appreciation for it. I liked opera b4 but I love it now!

  • I find the Italian operas and also Wagner a bit too much to swallow, but Mozart's music is divine and The Magic Flute is just heaven. Check the performance at the Met - ouverture with James Levine and sets by David Hockney. There's also a very nice film by Ingmar Bergman from a production in Sweden. It's such an interesting story, mixing love, a secret sect (Free Masons?) and the naive, charming Papageno, who in the end meets his lovely Papagena. I never tire of it.

  • Yes, i definitely need to see the entire opera. And i agree, Mozart is a genius! We are also doing the sextet in Cosi Fan Tutte and it's brilliant! Mozart is definitely one of a kind...

  • Dorothea Röschmann has an amazing voice.

  • I agree

  • Wow!!!

  • I love this version of the opera!

  • Pamina is actually not bad at all! wow.

  • Are Pamina and Papagena two different girls?

I have yet to see the full version of this opera. Does anyone have the papageno/a duet from this opera? That would be great.

  • Of course Papagena and Pamina are different;

Pamina is a princess, the Queen of the night's daughter..and she's in love with the prince Tamino.

Papagena is in love with Papageno, the bird-catcher.

(sorry for the mistakes,i'm a frenchy)

  • Thanks very much for clearing that up;)

I haven't seen many operas. Including this one.

  • Nice to begin now!:)

  • This is one of the most beautiful versions of The Magic Flute.

  • Well, in my home town Dortmund we also had a wonderful Papageno: Franz-Joseph Kapellmann!

    Christian

  • simon keenlyside is the BEST papageno! he's the best everything actually! type his name in and hear him sing guglielmo in cosi fan tutte...

  • i like this recording better than some of the other ones. the baritone had very good forward placement. i am listening to this aria because i will be performing it in the fall semester.

  • awesome great for studying and pratice

  • They are both amazingly good! I love it!

  • Dorothea Roschmann is fantastic! What musicianship! Could you post from Schneller fuse to the end of Act 1? That would be great.

  • what's the title of that song?

  • Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen

  • Thanks. Will you upload more videos of this opera? Please!

  • Love them both! (I miss Damrau, anyway lol) ^^
