This was the first movie I saw as a child and it brings back a lot of memories. The music is iconic of the film, it instilled a sense of mystery and foreboding. I hope Disney keeps this piece as the opening title music with their remake of the film.
This music brings back such strong feelings from my childhood! You know when you're still at that age that you can't tell that the things you see on TV aren't possible? That's where I was when I first saw this movie. This movie made me think I would be growing up and going out to the stars.
This music brings such powerful old memories back! Thanks for uploading. :)
When I first saw this movie when I was a kid I was devastated when old Bob died, yeah the little junky robot with Slim Pickens voice. Of all the things going on in the movie, the whole crew being turned into mindless automotons etc. I was devastated about old Bob, stuck with me for weeks.
The theme is superb, and the movie was very much underrated IMO. I saw it in the cinema as a mere 8 year old, and it's lightless music and dark theme ran straight and true. I loved it, and love it still.
This would be a great piece of music to open a concert with. For example, to open for Slayer. To hear 'Reign in blood' after this, well, I'd go into cardiac arrest...
Thank you. I loved this movie when I was a kid. I remember that I was the only kid in my neighborhood who, along with R2D2 and C3PO, had a Vincent action figure.
this song makes me look up in the sky at night and realize how puny and insignificant we all are. This song sounds so epic and powerful! It resembles the immense hyper giant space bodies that fly around us at unimaginable speeds. Its really scary to imagine a giant black hole getting closer and closer to you... The pictures that i construct in my mind while listening to this are so scary! This is amazing!
The sweeping score that moves over the computer like animated grid is WOW on the opening it takes, me personally into a virtual black hole with sub bass turned up to the correct level!
Thanks John Barry for lovely written scores over your lifetime...
If the new 2012 version of The Black Hole goes like TRON: Legacy I think us old fans will be happy, TRON's score and visuals were awesome and lived up to expectations and beyond in my opinion.
As for this OST, I used to have the album and loved it to bits as a kid, great music and a shame they don't do things this way these days as the big orchestra sound is so neglected now. =/
Man this gives me CHILLS! I remember seeing this movie with my Dad in the theatre. I think it's the only movie we ever saw together just the two of us.
@Ivyandstone It makes sense when you consider not only the theme of the film, but also the very nature of black holes themselves. Someone screaming is as apt a description as I can think of.
@DizzyBlizzy I *think* you're thinking of two different people. The king from Conan was played by Max von Sydow. Dr. Reinhardt, this film's "villain", was played by Maximillian Schell. Hope this helps.
@DonkeyWerks Disney Made it? No wonder it was Kinda Childest looking. But when i saw the ending with hell in stuff anf the ghost i was scared shitless.
@DonkeyWerks Disney Made it? No wonder it was Kinda Childest looking. But when i saw the ending with hell in stuff and the ghost i was scared shitless. anyway like 10 years later i love the movie and understand the ending.
@DonkeyWerks You're so right. That was an intense movie. People got turned into mindless zombies, drilled by evil robots, and went through heaven and hell. This is NOT "Bambi". When I saw it as a kid, I was blown away.

I can think of 2 options right now. 1, I believe iTunes still has the whole soundtrack for download. And 2, you could get the original LP album like I did and copy the tracks from it via a turntable PC program. Unfortunately I do not have the program anymore but I'm in the process of getting it again. If all else fails, I can send you the track via email as well.
@TheFightingTwits I know this comment is a year old, but just to let you know, Disney gave Intrada Records the go ahead to release a complete version of the score for the Black Hole. Just ordered a copy off of their website. It's $19.99 but I think its worth it. I will be posting the missing cues once I have it so stay tuned.
I think that John Barry got his score sheets mixed up again - this theme would have been better suited to "Moonraker". It would have underscored Roger Moore's idiocy as James Bond.
John Barry's space music is god damn epic. Listen to "Space March" (Capsule in Space) or its other name "007 and Counting" so extremely epic it gives me goosebumps.
@huffymatron i found articles saying that the director is the guy who did "the losers" and he's a major fan of the original movie, as such he's planning on keeping most of the original elements of the movie, whether or not that means the score is yet to be seen but its something to hope for
@alucard624 Tron: Legacy abandoned the theme from the original (1982) entirely. I hope to God Kosinski preserved the tunes of this soundtrack for his remake.

30 years later still the best soundtrack and movie Disney ever did for adults.
