Ok insha'allah this will work with the correct spelling, i've tried 3 times previously but it did not work...arghhh
Ok you should totally read 'the holy woman' by qaisra shahraz
its is a fab read, it involves islam and how a pakistani woman is forced into being what they call a 'shahzadi ibadaat', it is where you have to devote your life in islam, its a traditional thing where a shahzadi ibadaat cannot marry. It centers on islam but half of it is about tradition. It's a great story =)
A streetcar named desire is actually really good I love all of Tennese Williams books. You have a really good taste in books I love most of the ones you showed - especially Sylvia Plath.
I am an atheist, I do not like religious books. I have tried to read the bible but i found it to be very incoherent and unreadable. Have you read books on atheism?
I was given The Sealed Nectar as a gift and told it is a must read at least a few times... but I finding it to be a hard book to read.....has anyone read it AND the Muhammad book by Martin Lings? I was wondering if Lings book was an easier read.....
I have just become a muslim and have not started wearing the hijab scarf yet but have changed some of what I have been wearing to become more modest in my dress. I was already pretty modest but just took it up a notch :) so I am planning one day to wear the head scarf as well so I have been practicing your techniques at home and getting excited about wearing it. I am not sure my husband will let me wear it actually but i will cross that bridge later. :) until then you make me smile and think.:)
can u do a college organizational video, a notetaking video, a binder organization video, a school supply video, and a highlighting video plz and thank u. AND HAPPY EID. koli sana wenti tayebah. May Allah Bless you and your family adn takabal all ur salat and syam and duas. Ameen.
I recommend Three cups of tea by Greg Mortenson. A true story about an American who travels around Pakistan building schools. An amazing story, and an amazing man.
Also a brilliant book for people learning how to pray or people new to Islam is a book entitled Islam by Ghulam Sarwar. It has many different sections covering different aspects of Islam. One section is about Salah and has transliterations of the du3aas, Surahs and Tasbeehat read during Salah and shows the method of performing Salah using illustrations. Hope this is useful, insha Allah
Muhammed by Martin Lings is my favourite book! I love, love, love his writing style... Its such a beautiful book. There was a brilliant article written by a sister who'd taken beautiful excerpts from the book and wrote about how Hadhrat Zaynab RA was a brilliant example for all women... I'll post on Pearl Daisy fanpage insha Allah! X
we have remarkably the same taste in books...I have every fiction book you held up (excepting christopher pike) was always more of a hemingway than a fitzgerald enjoyer tho (schism!) ! Really enjoyed your book review, thank you:)
a realli great supplication book i came across and was recommended by many sisters is "fortress of a/the muslim", its a very small, compact, easy to carry around book with supplications for everythin, and can be found realli cheap at many islamic stores.
My favourite book (it's not to do with Islam, sorry), but its called "Girl, Missing" its the most amazing book i have read, really. its by Sophie McKenzie. Worth a read!
i LOVE to read the shopaholic series, and would definetely recommend those...umm also i own a book titled viel of roses written by laura fitzgerald, its a realli good book about a mulsim sister in the states and her journey.
also if ur an action mystery junkie i would say the Dan Brown books as well.
Hope you like my recommendations, and do read some of them.
A book i really recommand is a thousand splendid suns and kite runner, its such amazing books and extreemly sad, as well as burnt alive by soaud and all these books have an aspect of islam, sadness but it is also beautifully written ...plz read dem :) xx
Salaam, when I saw that your poems have been published I was eager to read them, as I do eng lit at uni. So I googled them but have been unable to find them. Where can I read them as I am so curious now? Btw I'm eager to read al-ghazali now, seems really interesting!
@s7nawaz they're not published in anything big - it was just a little local anthology so i doubt you'd find it online anywhere! A few yrs ago i did try to publish 2 of my novels but gave up after a month. Oh an English lit student! Nice to meet you :o) I studied some Eng lit at Uni (they let us go into other depts & I found the Eng dept to be my utopia!) & wrote a lot of stuff. Maybe one day i'll share with u guys when i feel more comfortable sharing it as my writings are always about sad things
Oh wow you wrote 2 novels as well, you're clearly a girl of many talents lol. Please do share your poems with us one day, I absolutely love reading and interpreting them. And btw I like reading sad stories etc for some odd reason so I'm sure they'll be enjoyable. Keep up the good work.x
I saw that you mentioned a book by Imam Al-Ghazali on The Etiquette of Marriage in another comment down below..I've been trying to find it but haven't had too much luck :-/ Can you please give me more detail on the book so I can maybe refine my search? Thanks! :o)
Salam erm i enjoy reading anything and everything really. I'm still a teen but of going through a phrase of reading romance books etc. I reallyw ant to get hold of 'Love in a headscarf' I'm currently writing my own story/book called 'A hijabi love story' so erm yh :)
three cups of tea by greg mortenson is a good casual read! its about a guy who was found on k2 and nurse back to health in a village in pakistan, he was struck by the kindness of the people, and of the kids determination to study in their poor conditions so he promised to build them a school. Since Im an american girl, another book i enjoyed reading was The Muslim Next Door by Sumbul Ali-Karamali...but its more of a pre-islam book and i read it before i became muslim so..lol im not much help!
@BeautyIridescent I read 'three cups of tea' as well and was very impressed by the work of Mr.Greg in Pakistan. being a Pakistani myself I know the conditions over there and I was highly inspired by him. But recently I watched CBS's 60 minute's documentary on him. Very disturbing and disappointing. But then I thought that at least he is doing some work, unlike other NGOs and the government who have totally ignored those areas
I like books i write,, i write Disney comic books (Donald duck ) is who i specialize in- I actually got to go to talk Angelia Jolie gave in San Diego ( a lot of people-said were affected by girl interrupted) by the way Jolie is a unbelievably good human- nothing like tabloid portrays she spoke so genuine. (love everything Tim Burton) great collection ! x shelly
@magicadespell56 cool, where can we get a hold of your books then? I hate to give in to the media rubbish but I'm not too keen on Angelina. I do think her charity work is wonderful but something about her scares me.
I LOVE Heart of the Quran by Lex Hixon ... Its beautiful and very spiritual. So many meditations on the best book. I recommend you all read it! You can get it on amazon.
i <3 Martin Lings, masha'Allaah. he was so fantastic and i don't know if you know but when he passed away when he was in his 90s and he sought permission from his local authorities to be buried in his garden.
the Holy Qur'an translated by Aisha Bewley is an amazing translation.
purification of the heart by sheikh hamza yusuf is amazing too masha'Allah.
2 books i would recommend by imaam al haddad are 'the book of assistance' and 'gifts for the seekers'.
Oh yes 'purification of the heart' I have - it's lovely. Have you ever heard Sheikh Hamza's audio collection of 'purification of the heart'? It's like 30 audio CD's & so amazing. It's like you're being taught by him in person! In fact, I keep it on the drawers that are beside me in this vid - not sure if you can catch them at any point though
finally the book/booklet by imaam al ghazzali 'alchemy to happiness' is a stunning stunning stunning book! masha'Allaah! (they are all the islamic books i can think of on the top of my head - that you haven't mentioned).
oh, and every household without fail should have dala'il al-khayrat. subhanAllaah (oh, sheikh muhammad al yaquobi's advice, not just mine lol) :) x
@roisindubh786: 'alchemy' is great! Have you watched the movie 'alchemy of happiness'? They take parts of that that book & part of his other book 'deliverance from error' to make it - impressive movie.
I love your choices, sister...M'A!
Even Sheikh Yaqoubi's words are like full of noor!
I really enjoyed listening to you talking about some of your favourite books, I`d love to hear the poems you wrote yourself, I attempted to pause on the second that the poem page was on screen but its too blurry to read! :)
Except Islamic books, what i like most is the one from Fadia Faqir- My name is Salma.. You should read it someday.. I read it in my first days after becoming a muslim and it helped me alot..
Is about a jordanian girl who become pregnant before marriage, so her family was against this and they decided to lock her in a prison for some time.. After she has the baby, they will take (the baby) away from her.. After a while she decides to move to Englad where she gets married, but she cant forget her baby..
So she goes back to her country and her mother says that her baby was killed and she takes her to the baby's grave.. And while she was sitting there, her brother comes and kills her..near her baby.. Really you should read it coz its very emotional.. And i hope you got anything from what i tried to explain:)
@LoopeeRoro: oh man, that's how it ends? The way you wrote it I was expecting for someone to come to the grave & tell her her baby is still alive, so she goes on an adventure seeking her lost child. The real story is so sad :o( I don't know why but ever since I entered motherhood, i really can't handle movies (let alone the news) about children dying etc.
Im sorry coz i didnt let you know about a good book to read.. But i can tell you that nowadays im reading from Paulo Coelho's books and he is also amazing.. and he is not talking at all about death or having sad end.. His books always have a message which help you to see life from a new vision.. If you are interested, let me know and i will tell you what are the books about.. :*
@LoopeeRoro I've heard about Paulo Coelho so many times in the past. I'm sure his 'the alchemist' was on richard & judy's recommended book list or something. I never got round to reading him though
you are such a sweet heart, i miss u so when u make these videos i feel like where having a convo lol.
Well miss Amena, i love Jean Sasson books (she finds wonderful strong islamic women who have been through tragic life changing events and she tells their stories- her most famous is called "princess")
i also love the book "once upon a time in beirut" by catherine taylor. -a journalist who sees alot and it opens her eyes to issues in arabia.
@umhasoomi: i miss YOU! can't wait to see your catch up pics & vids on FB.
"Princess" sounds compelling; I've always wanted to read some books with the protagonists being strong Muslim women but never got round to it. i'll keep an eye out for that one.. thanks sweetie
Mashallah a great selection. Since ur into the ways of tasawuf another excelent and practical books is imam alawis 'the book of assistance' a manual to improving ur tasawuf. We were taught this at some length in shaam (Syria) sh. Yaquobi highly recomends also. Finally my regards to brother Osama :-)
@emkwan: thanks! I'll keep my eyes peeled for that one; I've heard it recommended many times before. How fortunate, if you had been taught by Sheikh Yaqoubi!
saw ur tag which btw also had cosmetics questions n the rest is just pure redundant as per me videos, not much for a guy to watch but this ones gud wanna read so much of Imam Ghazali, i have read
@annie14411 he has written one called 'trust & the unity of God' - I wasn't too keen on the translation (can't remember who the translator was but it wasn't TJ Winters, whose style I adore) & was in the middle of moving houses so never completed it. Harun Yahya's awesome! His 'evolution deceit' was actually the first book I read on the Evolution/Creationism debate and a lot of it rang true to me. Although some of his videos feel a bit intense, i LOVED that book of his. Others I haven't read
@annie14411: i reckon Harun Yahya is really working hard to spread his findings. I remember 2 of his representatives came to my Uni to do a presentation about the complexity of humans & how this in itself disproves the theory of Evolution.
thank you Amina for doing it, though i kept smiling and wondering what mood you were into, maybe it's just me but i really felt i was skyping with a friend online...which is a VERY good thing :)
anyway great list of books, and i took notes of some that i would love to read..
I loved u mentioned about that book on supplication considerring that Prophet Muhammad, sas, said:,,The Essence of 'Ibadah is the Du'a'' (Sahih Bukhari).I would reccomend a book called,,Animals in Qur'an'' by Ahmed Bahjat and ,,Tefsir Ibn Kathir'' from Dar-us-Salam Publisher, which in my oppinion answers all questions in connection to the meanings of the entire Quran.Allah Knows best!
hey amena you shud make a video on how you and your husband met and how it changed your work life and stuff =) im sure peoplel would loooove to hear it! <3 salam
@roseyunit: lol editing this vid, I made me want to read, too! Wish i had time these days haha.
I watched the 'Kite Runner' movie and figured it had been adapted from a novel way before I found out about the book. It's just THAT kind of movie - brilliant character development, the plot, everything. But I decided not to read the novel as I knew it would be better than the movie (as they usually are!). The movie disturbed me way too much (rape etc) so I couldn't have dealt with the novel!
Khaled Hooseni. - Thousand Splendid Suns is also an amazing story. I cried me though it. How a wonderfull friendship can happen even in the worst of times.
My favorite quote is from one wife that couldnt have children to the other wife "tell ur daughter she is the noor of my eyes and the sultan of my hear" <33
I am about to read that book. I have already read 'The Kite Runner'. Mashallah, that was a fantastic book to read - the movie doesn't come close to it whatsoever if anyone is wondering : )
I'm not sure I'd call myself a Sufi and to be honest I don't even know what that would actually mean. I do LOVE the concept & experiences tied with spirituality/tasawwuf but I'm definitely not good enough to be a 'sufist'
And by 'good enough' I don't mean to be overtly-modest or put myself down, I just associate being a Sufi to being on a REALLY close level with God, and to be a REALLY good, spiritually aware Muslim. I'A, I truly hope to get there one day!
@Amenakin I love Imam al Ghazali's book on the marital relationship. It's been ages I looked into it at a relative's I believe. already with your previous video on books you made me very very eager to read the one on the after life, particularly since we suffered an unexpected and sad loss in the closest family in the past year...
salaam sis read this book called ar raheeq almuqtoom (the sealed nector) its the biography of Muhammad (PBUH) its beautiful

@annie14411: i reckon Harun Yahya is really working hard to spread his findings. I remember 2 of his representatives came to my Uni to do a presentation about the complexity of humans & how this in itself disproves the theory of Evolution.

@Noor2388... lol my mood was probably up & down because i had to edit a lot of this out to fit in the 10 mins. Don't get me started on books! haha
I'm totally out of 'the box' so have no idea about skyping but it sounds cool!

skyping is a program that is mainly used for video chat and phone calls for really cheap rates!

Subhan'Allah Imaam Ghazali Rahimullah!
Martin Lings is quite good too.
Al-Ibris is supposed to be an awesome book which im trying to get my hands on.
However, it is a teaching of great Sufiyah and Ulemah that knowledge comes from books but wisdom comes from men of books.

@tomorrowsprincess: you're very right about gaining wisdom from the 'men of books'. There's nothing that compares to being in their company :o)

You make me want to read! Have you read Kite Runner? Amazing read also - by Khaled Hooseni.
roseyunit 2 years ago

Mashallah, that was a fantastic book to read - the movie doesn't come close to it whatsoever if anyone is wondering : )
butterfly2729 2 years ago
@butterfly2729 if you are talking about a thousand spledid suns then get ready to fall in love with that book!!!
the kite runner was amazing, but their is something about the 2nd book that leaves you affected for life!
Noor2388 2 years ago
@Hananita88 aww that lines sounds sad, I'm sure I'd like that book
Amenakin 2 years ago
@Hananita88 one of my fav. quotes from the many is:
"like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman" :)
Noor2388 2 years ago
@Noor2388 Yea, thats a good one to. Khaled Housseini is just amazing!

LOVELOVELOVE ur hoojab :D and just bought the black one <3 cant wait to get it!!
So you are a sufist? :) Interesting.
Nice collection by the way :)
Hananita88 2 years ago
@Hananita88 Any muslim that's a sunni muslim is a sufi-ist. Others are ones who stray away from truth, therefore not sufi-ists.
SkittlezAddict4Eva 2 years ago
@Hananita88: yey for the black hoojab! ;o)
I'm not sure I'd call myself a Sufi and to be honest I don't even know what that would actually mean. I do LOVE the concept & experiences tied with spirituality/tasawwuf but I'm definitely not good enough to be a 'sufist'
Amenakin 2 years ago
And by 'good enough' I don't mean to be overtly-modest or put myself down, I just associate being a Sufi to being on a REALLY close level with God, and to be a REALLY good, spiritually aware Muslim. I'A, I truly hope to get there one day!

@Amenakin I love Imam al Ghazali's book on the marital relationship. It's been ages I looked into it at a relative's I believe. already with your previous video on books you made me very very eager to read the one on the after life, particularly since we suffered an unexpected and sad loss in the closest family in the past year...
dinavienna 2 years ago
@dinavienna I love that one, too! 'The etiquette of marriage' i think it was called; my sis gifted it to me when i got married, bless her.
I'm very sorry to hear about your loss; may the Almighty grant sab'r to you & your family
