damn, i heard of a time when drummers were nervous about synths, thinking they could never compete with the speed, but this is a perfect example of how much you can do with so little, i love those little rolls he does with his left
This is pretty heavy stuff for '67! Why they were'nt as big as Pink Floyd or other space rock bands is a mystery. And silver sandals? Where did he find those? Am i safe to assume that these guys might have indulged in the occasional acid trip?
THANK YOU. I love how he's dialed in his own sound on that Hammond, instead of just using that cornball churchy-sounding setting 99.99999% of all Hammond players use.
How about Syd with the Prunes instead of the back stabbing Floyd. Now that would have been something else. And yes I agree the Softs where a bunch of hopeless twiddlers.

I dunno. I love the psychedelic stuff, big fan of the Syd Barrett days of Pink Floyd, but this is just crap. I mean seriously. It is the kind of noise that people just make when they don't know how to play an instrument. If I picked up the clarinet right now, that is what I would sound like. Give me the Electric Prunes or Syd Barrett ANY day. Sorry. It's just the way I feel.
I kind of agree the only Soft machine song i could ever listen to was Moon in June and even then it's really not what this band plays. I don't think you need to take LSD to enjoy a song or even this bands LP.
OMG! This freakin ROCKS! I Was born in '71, so I never got to witness this group first hand or any of the classics but, ever since I wass in HS I loved clasic rock. Music today can't touch the fire, passion, energy of 60's music. BTW this is my first time to see footage or really hear Soft Machine. AWESOME!
That's right Neil

These guys opened for Jimi Hendrix in Columbus , OH, in March 1968. We were all anxious for Hendrix and did not give them their due.

With that eye makeup, Kevin Ayers looks like an early prototype for Alice Cooper.

@gwugluud11 he's using a Lowrey, not a Hammond. Apparently, he wanted one, but couldn't afford it.

I think this just goes to show that it was all done in '67... rock has been sucking the teet of '67 ever since with less and less milk.
