  • This exactly the type lower female voice i love...Contralto,Mezzo,Alto...probably all 3 but this rich dark sound like chocolate!J'adore.

  • Como é tocante!

  • Beautiful. Thankyou.

  • fuck this!

  • @TheWskiller That's what's annihilation?

  • I can't stop crying...

  • Great sung by Lucia! I´m gonna sing the alto in school, getting inspired by this (but, uh, it doesn´t look too fancy or professional that they are sitting and looking down in the score during the "intro". Why?)

  • @frknGeraniaceae Don't look @ this video.... LISTEN to this video! :)

  • Cant wait to sing this song next week!! Its so lovely!!

  • Due grandi artiste per una partitura straordinaria

  • A perfect mixture of grief and beauty. Truly moving, as all music and art in general ought to be.

  • misterious, painfull, something like being lost in middle of nothing and one question, what is life? which is the reason to live?

  • Alan Partridge!

  • que hermosas voces!!!

  • The sung part is a bit too fast for me. 10-15% slower would have been much better. The young Claudio obviously acted a bit too temperamentally ...

  • Beautiful piece of music, this.

But the version that really transported me and opened me right up is Emma Kirkby and James Bowman.

It doesn't have the more operatic stylings of this version, there's a real linear purity to it.

First time I heard it, right from the opening interval unfolding outward, I could just feel an inner voice going "Oh yesss!"

  • @roquefort88888 Yes! I agree the Emma Kirkby/James Bowman/Acad. Anc Music version has been the awesome standard for years....however I (and many others) think that the recent Vivica Genaux/ Sabina Puertolas/Les Talens Lyriques is simply the best....an AMAZING! perfomance, probably the best ever recorded....(so far)

.i.e......(forgive me, but richer, deeper, and more sonorous than this one)

  • @bf2019

    Nice one - much appreciated!

I still love the spiritual simplicity of the Kirkby/Bowman version, but it's great to find such an excellent recent interpretation. Particularly struck by how Genaux' face transforms as she restrains herself to keep the austerity of the opening section - she really gets it, she understands.

  • @roquefort88888 Thanks Roquefort88888, I too think see gets it, always I can depend on Vivica Genaux to really deeply embody the piece she is working....Another interpretation you might like is this Strong, Stark, and Deeply Solemn version, almost Gregorian....: Pergolesi - Stabat Mater in F Minor - Mov. 1-3/12 HARMONICO101 : Sara Mingardo, contralto/Gemma Bertagnolli, soprano/Concerto Italiano.....these are the three best: Emma's, Vivica's, and Sara's....thanks and Peace to You...

  • @roquefort88888 Also if you liked this piece you might also like another rare Vivaldi..:Vivaldi Griselda Aria Ombre Vane, Ingiusti Orrori elias12186 some kind of suspended beauty a little similar to Stabat Matar...

  • so Mozart is not the first one or the best one

  • poor Katia.........she really is ( or was ) very, very meodocre ................. I think she got to the top just because she was "raccomandata".............seriously, there's no other explanation!

  • @JoyEvelynT I have to agree. Valentini is beautiful in this recording. Ricciarelli ... the less said, the better.

  • Thanks so much for this beautiful interpretation, realy Great

"DIVAS" , all the best, love and blessings!!!! Carlos Belbey-Lyric Singer-Vocal Coach-FRANCE

  • I cried, I got a taste of what Mary felt through this music.

  • I had to play this in church today (I'm not religious but I play the organ for their main services) and playing this song and hearing the choir gives me insane shivers everytime! A masterpiece indeed.

  • exciting

  • Very old recording, but Katia's fantastic full force voice

  • One doesn't have to be catholic or has to believe in any God to appreciate this.

    This is just...

    ...amazing

I'm not a musician neither i have a musical ear but i think i hear the same vibrato coming from the two voices, is that correct?

    Cheers

  • There is no more music like this... A master-piece ... So deep, so divine, so perfect... So not from Earth... :)

  • grandissima composione rovinata dalla Ricciarelli!

  • I'm absolutelly impressed by Lucia's voice in this "master piece". So deep, so intense... wow! a lot of emotions.

  • @Malleficae Why "master piece"?

  • @cashernandes1 Just since it's a little part of the whole work (the whole master piece), in fact, we could said we are listening just "the first movement"... my favourite is "O quam tristis et afflicta".

  • By the way, Lucia is (or sadly was) not a contralto, but a mezzosoprano...

  • best recording! heavenly beautiful.

  • BRAVE !!!

  • Lucia is gorgeous too...

  • Katia is gorgeous!

  • Said to be one of the most perfectly formed pieces of music ever. Hundred percent in agreement.

  • It's like the blending of the most exquisite fragrances - Ricciarelli and Valentini do incredible justice to this beautiful piece. (:-0)

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW SOOOO SOOOO SOOOO BEAUTIFUL! THERE ARE NO WORDS FOR IT

  • Bless you dear Maria.

  • Amazing. I have no words.

  • BELLISSIMO....

  • Omfg i had to listen this for school :'(

  • Rcciarelli,Terrani,Abaddo einfach Großartig!

  • Oeuvre écrite pour deux voix de castrat. A l'époque, on distinguait nettement 3 styles:

  • Come on; this much vibrato in this type of music... and why so early on the 'iuxta Crucem' at 1:43 There are better recordings...

  • I have heard several versions of this beautiful piece. Margaret Marshal's among them. This is very good. Thanks

  • How sweet, sad and beautiful is this...

  • sublime.

  • This isn't from 2007! I saw her this year and a couple of years before, she sings like hell now! What a shame...she used to sing so beautifully...

  • @mistydeuth Look at the description... it says 1979...

  • too much vibrato for Pergolsi. though, Katja Ricciarelli is great!

  • Fav'd.

Z pokorą i rezygnacją przyjął swój przedwczesny koniec".

  • @omoetamo Mah,certi commenti !!!

  • We did with our choir..

    Just perfect....

  • GENIAL!!!

  • love the alto's voice

  • I love Lucia Vatentini Terrani sad voice....

  • Very nice indeed.

  • I bought the cd of stabat mater (pergolesi) for 3 euro at a pharmacy :D I never really got into classical music, but I like this one.

    Brava

  • I almost convert myself into catholicism, listening this piece.

  • i was to sing that song many years ago, when i was 14 years old in the chorus of my school. So beauty, so sad, so perfect.

  • how can anyone dislike this video!!!!!

  • It's fascinating to hear a woman with such a low colour!

  • mirific, exceptional ...

  • 0:20

    Long Jesus is loooooooooooong

  • It reminds me of the recordare movement in mozarts requiem

  • Amazing!!

  • oh god, i love it.

    it makes me feel..happy ^^

  • Hauntingly beautiful performance.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • I love this music. I am sure that this music had inspired Mozart for his own Requiem, because it sounds VERY similar and it was performend many years before Mozart's Requiem ...

  • :) cool

  • please can anyone help me who sings this please:

    /watch?v=9UO9ndEFvDE

  • stabat mater... i love so much !!! pergolesi is the best!

  • There is a recording under the label Deutshce Gramophone with Abbado, Valentini-Terrani and Margareth Marshall. JUST FANTASTIC!!!!! For those of you who do not know it's worth to get it. I finally got mine on CD after years of search. Use to have in LP hahahaha - good times!!! : )

  • @lelecoloco This is the first version I had from Pergolesi's Stabat Mater !! It is so good. I also have the recording of Rinaldo Alessandrini / Concerto Italiano (contralto: Sara Mingardo), and if you don't know it, you should listen to it, it is fantastic as well !! (besides, it contains Scarlatti's version).

  • Divine!

  • Dvorak's and Pergolesi's stabat mater are the bests

  • Pergolesi>Rossini

  • This version so deeply touches my dum pendebats! Je vous remercie mille fois!

  • magnificently reverent performance.....Awesome Video: 0)

  • Très émouvant, vraiment trop!

  • This is totally like when Scully from the X-Files had to give away little William. Poor moms. Even when they work for the FBI.

  • Bravo! We lost Lucia to leukemia in 1998. She was one of the leading contemporary Italian coloratura mezzos, she had a rich, creamy and agile voice.

  • @Beto246 Usually the Mezzo-soprano,contralto are more expresive than the soprano voices; For mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie-von Otter is the best example!!

  • @82224561 I just love Anne. She´s incredible... You´re so right!

  • straight to favourites. Gorgeous blend.

  • Great Katia,I played with her for the Italian television:amazing voice!

  • Magnifique ! Cela me donne des émotions

  • Astoundingly smooth, and very well sung. Pergolesi is one of the most sensitive composers of his generation.

  • pergolesi is soo beutifull...no words..

  • wow, WOW. Iam in silence.

Dit is ZO mooi, ben geraakt. Perfect. WOW

  • Best version of this song is Bryn Terfel and Simon Keenlyside two Baritones doing it, absolutely masterful. This one is very beautiful as well

  • so beautiful.

  • Prego.

  • BRAVA!!!! MANIFICO!!!!!! Gratci

  • Extraordinarily well sung. Often singers put on this affectation which takes away from the beauty of the music. (Also I prefer it with women singers rather than countertenors!) Pergolesi was a genuis who died at 26 - imagine what he might have accomplished had he lived longer! My absolute favourite rendition of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is with Judith Raskin and Maureen Lehane

  • Beautiful'

  • Dat is echt klasse!

  • Grandios.

  • Sin palabras. Una maravilla

  • davvero sublime e commovente.

  • This is splendid..

  • i live in france and im 12 soeak 4 anguages and i sang this in front of my class and he gave me a mark out of 20 it wqas 14 he said i was real good

  • If you appreciate Pergolesi's Stabat Mater you will likely get crying or teary- eyed over Dvorak's sublime and profoundly sad Stabat Mater. He wrote it after the death of his little ones and the profound sadness shows. The Atlanta Symphony & Chorus with Robert Shaw is a 2-CD set with commentary by R. Shaw is stunning and is one of my ten most often played CDs. [on the ELARC label]

  • Heavenly music ! thank you for sharing this , beautifully done .

  • I have never been able to listen to a good rendition of this without crying. Does it every time.

    So beautiful.

  • Grandi Ricciarelli e Valentini al massimo dello splendore vocale grazie!

  • Underbart!!

  • EZ NAGYON SZÉP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song requires a lot of trills... sounds really plain otherwise!! :D (those are on the score too) I don't know, maybe is a fashion from the time Pergolesi composed it... I think...

  • we apologize to you..

It's just La Scala and Abbaudo !

Come back tomorrow ..we'll try to do better for you !

  • QUE IGLESIA ES ESA? ES PRECIOSA

  • Bach appreciated it a lot, so he made a paraphrasis of it by modifying the viola's orchestration and by adding a chorus in his psalm "Tilge, Höchster, meine Sünden" (BWV 1083). :-)

    -Source: Italian Wikipedia-

  • This performance was one the reasons that I was interested in classical music. I did first time see the performance in 1985/86 on swedish TV. I taped it into my VHS. I loved it. After that my musical eyes really opened up. Since that time I have bought hundreds of CD with different classical music. And Abbodo has since that really been my favorite conductor.

  • Stupenda!!!

  • Beautiful! Especially Lucia Valentini! Amazing voice!

  • 0:39 - the music speeds up.

I love Abbado, my gosh, but you can feel/hear the music rushing. Of course it's just a detail, but it's the second part of this absolutely GORGEOUS beginning where everything is so exposed. It kind of throw you off a bit, negatively speaking.

  • ma version préférée...

    Stabat mater dolorosa

    juxta crucem lacrimosa

    dum pendebat fillius.

  • What language?

  • it,s Georgian :-)

  • you are beautiful tatia

  • thank you generalito :-)

  • this has been wonderful sung from both la grande Valentini-Terrani and Ricciarelli at her better times ...

    BRAVE !!!!!

  • this is amazing stuff

  • truly haunting, this is awesome!!!

  • molto bello..

  • I tried singing robert prizemans version, just view my page its the only video there for the moment.

  • Madonna we can see in 1:30 come from Częstochowa (Poland).
