Great sung by Lucia! I´m gonna sing the alto in school, getting inspired by this (but, uh, it doesn´t look too fancy or professional that they are sitting and looking down in the score during the "intro". Why?)
@roquefort88888 Yes! I agree the Emma Kirkby/James Bowman/Acad. Anc Music version has been the awesome standard for years....however I (and many others) think that the recent Vivica Genaux/ Sabina Puertolas/Les Talens Lyriques is simply the best....an AMAZING! perfomance, probably the best ever recorded....(so far)
.i.e......(forgive me, but richer, deeper, and more sonorous than this one)
I still love the spiritual simplicity of the Kirkby/Bowman version, but it's great to find such an excellent recent interpretation. Particularly struck by how Genaux' face transforms as she restrains herself to keep the austerity of the opening section - she really gets it, she understands.
@roquefort88888 Thanks Roquefort88888, I too think see gets it, always I can depend on Vivica Genaux to really deeply embody the piece she is working....Another interpretation you might like is this Strong, Stark, and Deeply Solemn version, almost Gregorian....: Pergolesi - Stabat Mater in F Minor - Mov. 1-3/12 HARMONICO101 : Sara Mingardo, contralto/Gemma Bertagnolli, soprano/Concerto Italiano.....these are the three best: Emma's, Vivica's, and Sara's....thanks and Peace to You...
@roquefort88888 Also if you liked this piece you might also like another rare Vivaldi..:Vivaldi Griselda Aria Ombre Vane, Ingiusti Orrori elias12186 some kind of suspended beauty a little similar to Stabat Matar...
poor Katia.........she really is ( or was ) very, very meodocre ................. I think she got to the top just because she was "raccomandata".............seriously, there's no other explanation!
I had to play this in church today (I'm not religious but I play the organ for their main services) and playing this song and hearing the choir gives me insane shivers everytime! A masterpiece indeed.
@cashernandes1 Just since it's a little part of the whole work (the whole master piece), in fact, we could said we are listening just "the first movement"... my favourite is "O quam tristis et afflicta".
Oeuvre écrite pour deux voix de castrat. A l'époque, on distinguait nettement 3 styles:

Z pokorą i rezygnacją przyjął swój przedwczesny koniec".
I love this music. I am sure that this music had inspired Mozart for his own Requiem, because it sounds VERY similar and it was performend many years before Mozart's Requiem ...
There is a recording under the label Deutshce Gramophone with Abbado, Valentini-Terrani and Margareth Marshall. JUST FANTASTIC!!!!! For those of you who do not know it's worth to get it. I finally got mine on CD after years of search. Use to have in LP hahahaha - good times!!! : )

@lelecoloco This is the first version I had from Pergolesi's Stabat Mater !! It is so good. I also have the recording of Rinaldo Alessandrini / Concerto Italiano (contralto: Sara Mingardo), and if you don't know it, you should listen to it, it is fantastic as well !! (besides, it contains Scarlatti's version).
Extraordinarily well sung. Often singers put on this affectation which takes away from the beauty of the music. (Also I prefer it with women singers rather than countertenors!) I love Abbado, my gosh, but you can feel/hear the music rushing. Of course it's just a detail, but it's the second part of this absolutely GORGEOUS beginning where everything is so exposed. It kind of throw you off a bit, negatively speaking.
This exactly the type lower female voice i love...Contralto,Mezzo,Alto...probably all 3 but this rich dark sound like chocolate!J'adore.

Beautiful piece of music, this.
But the version that really transported me and opened me right up is Emma Kirkby and James Bowman.
It doesn't have the more operatic stylings of this version, there's a real linear purity to it.
First time I heard it, right from the opening interval unfolding outward, I could just feel an inner voice going "Oh yesss!"

0:39 - the music speeds up.
I love Abbado, my gosh, but you can feel/hear the music rushing. Of course it's just a detail, but it's the second part of this absolutely GORGEOUS beginning where everything is so exposed. It kind of throw you off a bit, negatively speaking.
