  • hey what you think that woman too long talk or what!! do you have enjoy that woman story? tell me now

  • Watched your vlog also others'... Who is Teri Sentelle? It got me curious. I can not find her vlog on youtube... What is your suggestion for me to go and read her vlog?...

  • Great and u got good point! Many people need to see it.

    (Thumb up)

  • Interesting discussion. R- Check your email about another sex assault (second since 2007) at the Maryland School for the Deaf. Reported in the Frederick News-Post reported.

  • Not important at this moment, dear.

  • Ridor, a question for you. Check out Joey Baer's vlog back in September, he pretty much said the same things as did Teri. Why is it that people are not angry at Joey whereas they're angry at Teri? From what I understand, if I understood it correctly, both was not concerned about how the "hearing world" sees us but rather they were more concerned about how do we attract hearing parents of deaf kids when they see all the in-fighting on DVTV, etc. That was my take.

  • The difference between Joey Bear's vlog and Terri Sentelle's FB vlogs is Joey never make any degraded remarks about any kind of Deaf people while Teri Sentelle made some degraded remarks about these Deaf people who can't write English and they may scare hearing parents away. We have to remember that there are more than a half millions hearing people who can't write and read. :o)

  • Good point. I suspect it was the way Teri addressed the selected FB users to wage a battle upon each other in the first place.

In order to convince the hearing parents of deaf children, we must be honest with each other. Do you prefer for us to market and lie?

  • I am new at this so can you tell me where to locate teri sentelles video vlogs?

  • it is on her facebook profile -- not open to the public, sorry.

  • Very well said. I deeply disappointed in Teri. Why does Teri allow herself to worry about the hearing world. Many Hearing people are illiterate. Again we have witnessed hearing people's conduct which are horrible. Why worry?

Barry is the most deceiving person I ever met or seen.

We, Deaf need to be seen!

  • That's what I thought -- I guess I liked Volvo cars these days. ;-) It's hard to spell these russian words, though.

  • I can say you're spot on, being a mainstreamed kid myself. Very often, the ideal figure was represented to us as a Hearing person. So naturally, being pro ASL and Deaf culture was contrary to that(side effect: having us not real inclined to be part of the Deaf community). Seems Teri has fallen into that trap.. it's very hard to be independent of or to be critical of one's "Ideal Person".. because that also means that person will also be effectively breaking themselves down by doing so.

  • *clap, clap, oops, hand wave, hand wave* You got it all right. I'm no fan of hearing ASL teachers/professors/whatever they are who couldn't hack ASL equally with Deaf teachers/professors/whatever they are. Let's do them away. If they value the Deaf culture, language, etc., they should get out and immerse themselves in the Deaf community to be more "Deaf" rather being either fake Deaf or token Deaf. The worse thing I hate is token Deaf.

  • No, he spelled "narcissistic". So go and look it up since it's correct spelling.

  • Thanks! Yeah, it is narcissistic.

  • If we complain, it becomes a double sword. We need to take charge of the system, do the hiring process and all that cuz if we let hearies do this, then they can easily get away with keeping those people who do not have the best interest in their heart. Like if we complain about a certain interpreter, it becomes "hush hush" thing, we cannot do anything about it, who will replace this person, blah blah.. we need some empowerment, assertiveness, wits and power to make changes in the system.

  • A good one there! Recently I saw two youths fighting over who is deaf and who is hard of hearing. If I didnt know anything about deafhood or audism, I probably would have dismissed it but now I see it with my own eyes, it is very damaging and I am trying to put a stop to it and encourage this two youth to embrace their deaf idenity.

  • Good question, Nikki. Although I know you addressed this question to Ridor, I would like to answer with some questions: Who hired these individuals? Who is responsible for evaluating their performances? How does the system hold the instructors accountable for quality teaching? What criteria was set up during the hiring process? It is the powers that be we need to educate OR target. Otherwise, this will continue unabated for generations to come.

  • Nikki and Shel --

I know who Nikki's referring to. Unfortunately, these people were hired by the person who started up our ASL program around 15 - 20 years ago... a Hearing person who is not that great of a signer himself and is not a good judge of what good ASL models are. But I said unfortunately, because they have been at the university so long that they basically have "tenure". It becomes extremely difficult to get rid of them. And the worse thing is, who is

    responsible for evaluation?

  • It is basically the students themselves -- who basically don't know any better. If they like the teacher, they give good ratings, even if they don't know they're not being taught all that well. Nikki should have seen one of the other teachers that was at the university when I started.... EEEK!

We do have "Coordinators" for the programs, but they really have very little power to formally evaluate, hire or fire instructors at the university. So we're basically stuck until they retire.

  • At Gallaudet, professors are required to be evaluated by ASLPI every 7 years, I believe. And this one, Dr. Barry Bergen failed badly. Know what he did? He used his classes to urge the students to sign the petition to retain him. Many students were feeling awkward and guilty about it -- in fact, I was the only one in the classroom who refused to sign publicly.

These incompetent professors has to *stop* using the students during their classes to solicit their signatures!

  • Great Vlog! You made it so clear on WHAT we deaf community as a whole NEED to do. You're great. Thank you.

  • good vlog! I understand very clearly! thanks

  • Yes, we must get rid of them and replace with someone who is affiliated with our community.

I'm fed up with these hearies who sucked the blood out of our language, community and culture.

    Finish!

  • Ridor,

Good Vlog. Everytime I open your Vlog, the first thing I look for is how long your Vlog will be and always hope to be at least 10 minutes cuz I know that I will not be bored. Some people tell me to use my block button or ignore those harassers but it is my (and everybody) moral duty to stop these people demoralizing our Deaf community.

Barry is the #1 two-face deceiver and needs to be regulated so the cancer of Barry's deceivism personality will not spread to other feeble lapdogs.

  • I submitted myself as a scapegoat, just kidding, I use a remote control to scan the channels and often found that nothing is good on cable, same way with DVTV using the mouse instead. There is nothing out there but the one and only Ridor, I don't care about the controversials surrounding you, they don't accept you for what you are, without bothering to listen, being on same intellectual level, everything you have said so far make sense, there are no conflicts whatsoever, nothing to rebuke.Smokey

  • Podsaich, you have nothing to prove your point.

Podsaich and Barry, you two really need to learn how to stop harassing communication.

    Arizona Revised Statutes, § 13-2921 —- Harassment

Anonymously or otherwise communicates or causes a communication with another person by verbal, electronic, mechanical, telegraphic or written means in a manner that harasses.

  • Ah, there you are! I am in "itchy" to watch another Howard Stern era :-P

Positive or negative, always enjoy your vlog :-)

  • Good vlog, u are good exemple's vlog.

  • Excellent video - though I want to correct what you said about Buddhism. They definitely aren't about individualism... in fact, they discourage it through their practices of compassion, reducing the attachments of the ego, stuff like that.

The reason why Buddhism is so small is because they don't believe in evangelism. They don't try to convert other people into something that they aren't. This would go against their own primary belief of reducing any friction that causes the suffering.

  • Well said, Ridor...
