jus wondering see the headlock from behind is there any technique to softning the roll coz my friends and i always do that to each other outa laugh nd i learned this jus to be ready n scare them but when i do the roll when they roll over you its owkward
the real jiu jutsu is more like bjj, judo, aikido and some striking techniques combined. BRAZILIAN jiujitsu focused on grappling, while judo on throwing. read some history... besides they all come from japan
Funny how everyone says Gracie modified it to use less strength than traditionally... Japanese people are TINY, and the definition of jujutsu/jiu-jitsu is not using force to fight force, just doesnt make sense. Reality is these are basically unmodified from their original teachings
So many people seem to think JJ is only ground fighting, but there is a lot of stand up self defense too...people just dont see it because its not in the UFC lol.
the japanese introduce jiu jitsu to brazil, brazilians mastered it and made it there own. i know gracie jiu jitsu is oriented more towards self defense as of brazilian jiu jitsu is oriented against competition
the gracies made many changes to the original jiu jitsu to where it did not require as much strength as typical BJJ and JJJ
Uh no learn the facts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Helio Gracie was taught by a jiu jitsu champ and modified it to lose less strength and more leverage. Helio invented BJJ and there whole family practices it. they just say gracie jiu jistu instead of brazilian jiu jitsu sometimes, because BJJ originated from their family. Do a quick internet search it's all there.
Actually, it has to do with an dispute within the Gracie family. When the Gracie's taught JJ to the public in Brazil, they didn't teach all the good stuff; they saved it all for themselves. Carlson Gracie, who was a very popular fighter at the time, saw this and didnt like it. He opened up his own school. The rest of the Gracie's didnt approve, so they didnt allow him to call it "GJJ," since they had power over that term due to it being copyrighted. He instead dubbed it BJJ.
@Cpena9361 Actually, CARLOS was the one that was taught! Helio, who learned by WATCHING HIS OLDER BROTHERS practice what they had learned from Maeda. He taught a class one day when Carlos was late to HIS OWN dojo. After that, the students enjoyed Helio's style of TEACHING and decided they wanted him to show them what he had learned by watching his older brothers. It even says, in the Gracie Academy that, "Helio was too sickly as a child to be allowed to do ANY types of physical activity"
@GJJFan So it wasn't Helio that "invented BJJ", he just modified ti for himself, and had a very good teaching style, that made it easier to adapt. Am I trying to take anything away from him? NO! He helped develope and expand upon an art that already existed. So, the arguments can be never-ending, but why not focus on making the ART better??? THAT should be the goal for ALL martial arts! :-) Peace and good training!
actually id have to agree in most respects. these techniques would be so hard to pull off and perform 100 percent in a real situation.
this vid reminds me of those other self defense vids that instruct 18 moves...especially ones that involve grabbing a punch out of mid air, turningthe wrist, doing 10 pushups, unloading a loaded gun, then rendering your attacker unconscious
i dont know any other moves of any other martial arts that is more effective.
the philosophy of this martial art is to get someone to the ground as quickly as possible because then they are at ur mercy. u want proof? search royce gracie. and the gov now hires the gracies to do there training for police men, the army and other stuff. do some research. basic jiu jitsu would take u both down.
i train in jiu jitsu son, my point is that these videos should be showing in real time and real situations as opposed to rehearsed situations. thats why street fighting jiu jitsu always begins with underhooks and a clinch, not grabbing punches from the air or shit like that.
jiu jitsu isnt a sport that u train only 4 years and u say this i cant perform on streets ... This kinda martial art takes over 20 years to train if u want to be able to defend ureself in real life. Not even 20 years is enough ive only trained jiu jitsu for 2 years and i am not able to use it in streets on people cuz my reactions sux and i need to workout... thats only some of the things i also need speed and all that so dont bitch about it.
in all honesty i would never use jiu jitsu in a street fight....the ground is the last place u wanna b....maybe its just the southside of chicago...but everytime ive seen someone go to the ground twenty people jump in like a bunch of bitches
i live on the southside of Chicago (in the Pilsen neighborhood). I've used it before against someone messing with a girl on Cermak and Hoyne. It worked perfectly. Sure, I wouldnt use it against a group of gangbangers, but would boxing, kung fu, muay thai, etc really work against a large group of people? Def not. If ur standing in front of them, run. If you get taken to the ground by them, might as well hurt one of em.
@agallardo24 your right bjj is definetly for 1 vs 1 but some discliplines use multiple opponents as part of grade testing such as a form of kickboxing (sorry cant remember the name) that my uncle is a black belt in, but the more people the more likely that one of them has a knife so...
being a big dude myself, i've been flipped by a friend who i can outbench. strength is helpful but being able to find the points where the body pivots is key. In a real fight it would never be that easy to flip someone, but if you can catch them off guard, its a piece of cake (if you know what you are doing).
Self defense = Do whatever it takes to defend yourself. Bite Kick Punch Scratch Gouge Poke Elbow Noogie Wedgie Twist Pinch Headbutt Stomp Knee Choke Drill Strangle etc etc. Its your life on the line. Sure techniques are good but i find a good kick to the groin or a good scrape to the face usually reels anyone.
gracie jiu jitsu is brazilian jiu jitsu that is taught by the gracies or their direct students. bjj is taught by others not affiliated with them directly.
Most of these techniques are found in most self defense systems and martial arts to some degree. For instance, the side kick defense shown is a takedown found in PLA sanda.
well its tough to say but i general regarding to my experience bjj can be used very efficiently to fight one opponent (never mind what weight, height, style of martial art except for bjj itself) when he comes very close to u. But what is more, i am also able to hold two opponents at the same time in order not to get hit.
NO martial can handle multiple attackers I dont give a fuck who you are bjj, kung fu, boxer, wrestler!! While bjj is good 1 on 1 , doesnt mean it will work in-definatley, with adrenaline going on both sides the most visious will win, I dont give a fuck what anyone says to this too!
As you become proficient in bjj, you develop a sense of your own capabilities as well as a sense of any possible assailants capabilities, and you develop a wealth of tools at your disposal with your two bare hands that you can draw from to survive if not prevail in any situation, it takes extreme dedication, and most do not possess the total desire and williness to work years before you feel confident enough to defend yourself.
grappling is a very good answer for many cases. striking is an alternative also. what you choose it is up to your capabilitys and goals only. bjj works with a secure way of defending.
the sport isnt about being able to lift someone, its about a whole toolbox of techniques that you can choose from, not just the few very basic moves shown in this video. as for your gay comment, you must be a real pussy. go back to watching american idol.
Nice video!

personally i think the striking defenses were bullshit since like all striking arts like Karate or TKD, the punches are thrown too slow.
Ive never in my entire life ever seen someone intercept a punch and do any of this shit here.
The ground stuff is way more realistic and effective.

I saw a guy trying to get a rear choke from some goon.
The second it looked like he was losing, his buddies stomped in and threw the choker to a river.
Additude and situational awaresness are the most important things to have, not a basic course of BJJ "under the belt".
