Safari is the fastest browser, even on windows. Chrome is second. FF is the most extensible. Opera is a compromise between speed and functionality. All of them are good depending on what you're looking for.

Except IE. It just plain sucks on all levels.

in my tests safari has been much slower than chrome, and is close to ff3. only downside ive seen with chrome is lack of support on a few pages that run java (ie schwab trading). Also im a bit worried that google is selling my search info to the cia, lol

Try em in peacekeeper (browser benchmarker). Safari is fastest. Chrome 1 was pretty fast too, but newer versions have slowed down. All the benchmarks I've ever seen show Safari is the fastest.

Course it depends on your specific hardware, results may vary, but 9 times out of 10 Safari is fastest.

BTW, both Safari and Chrome are built on top of the same root (webkit) so it's not surprising they are the two fastest. Webkit is FAST. Safari just implements it better and still has more features than chrome.
