@Y2MAC Diesel/Kevin Nash may have injured him, but Waylon Mercy still wrestled after that, for about a month. He mostly wrestled on house shows against Bob Holly, but was in a "Battle Royal", on "Monday Night Raw", on October 23rd, 1995. To the best of my knowledge, this was his last match. It was won by Owen Hart.
cool, this was a ok gimmick. Although i dont get the gimmick things, i know it was popular back then, but man this man is Dangerous Danny Spivey, why cant he be that, now diesel is cool, but why couldnt be be Big Daddy Cool Kevin Nash??? anyways, ARE YOU TELLING ME SKITTLES HAD THE LINE TASTE THE RAINBOW BACK IN 1995????? wow didnt know that.
Man, no wonder Vince took the WWF Title from Diesel and put it on Bret Hart. Diesel was a non drawing champion and as you'll see in one vid on here, he couldn't do interviews or promos very well.
9;24 is that referee danny davis with the known referee striped long sleeved shirt with a gray shaved hair cut? i thought he left the wwf altogether after king of the ring 1995
I don't really see how Nash BOTCHED that power bomb. Both wrestlers are responsible to perform wrestling moves correctly, to avoid injury, and even in times when they are the most careful, injuries happen. That is pro wrestling, it is dangerous. Nash may have been an asshole, but I don't really believe he was responsible for for "ending" Spivy's career here.
Most complain about people adding commercials but those even helped to make me feel back in the 90s. Poor Waylon though. This was actually a sad moment considering his short time in the WWF and how awsome his gimmick was (regardless of it scarring the hell outta me).
in October 1995, Diesel's tank was almost completely dry and he still got much bigger and louder pops than anyone in WWE today, including Orton and Cena, that alone explains the supposed star power today's wrestlers have
Leave it to Kevin Nash to end the career of one of the most promising wrestlers in the WWF at that time. I wish somebody would've taken a flamethrower to the Klik. Yeah they may have drew money back in the day, which is why McMahon tolerated their BS, but they did so much damage to the wrestling business and the people in it.
@MJAY4000 that would had been great for Undertaker, finally feuding with his original tag team partner, instead Taker had to settle with pointless recycled feuds with Yokozuna and Mabel for the remainder of the year
This definitely had potential of one of the greatest heel gimmicksof all time, it's just sad that Spivey was out of shape and banged up and couldn't work as well as he used to. Does anyone remember Waylon Mercy vs. Savio Vega at one of the early "In Your House" PPV's? Spivey just couldn't work very well and it's a shame, I really wanted this gimmick to go over big.
Big Dan Spivey! That dude had been around! Remember him from way back in the days with his old tag team The Skyscrapers w/Sid & then Mean Mark Callous. Thanx 4 the vid - Awesome!
Very underrated gimmick, Waylon Mercy reminds me a lot of Robert Deniro's southern gentleman/raving lunatic gimmick from Cape Fear. Shame this was his last match.
His last match indeed, but not because Nash's powerbomb injured his back. He was banged up from years of football+wrestling by the time of this match, and couldn't keep up anymore, so he simply decided to retire.
Oh man, its no wonder he had mostly easy squash matches. His back must have been in horrible shape around this time. And that Jackknife from Diesel didn't do it any better. Though I wonder if his gimmick would still work in this day and age..
Yeah it was definitely inspired by Cape Fear. In fact, this gimmick was created by Spivey himself and Vince really liked the idea. I liked the character a lot. It's a shame Spivey got injured. I enjoyed this gimmick.
Me too, he had the type of gimmick where he'd shake your hand one minute and rip your head off the next. 1995 was a year of many cartoon character gimmicks. You had clowns, Garbage Men, School Teachers, Spanish Ninjas, Guys who wore jock straps on their faces, Pirates, Race Car Drivers, it was a zoo in WWF. Out of all of them, Waylon Mercy was the best gimmick.
Actually, WWE themselves recently addressed this rumor when they did a "Where Are They Now?" piece on Dan "Waylon Mercy" Spivey. Long story short, Spivey did not retire because of a Diesel powerbomb. The guy was already pretty banged up by the time of his match, due to his many years in football and wrestling. He even said that his intense matches over in Japan told several years off his career. He quietly disappeared and retired after this. Its alright, I used to believe it was this as well.
Nash never putting anyone over.
