  • I don't understand why someone this good would have to keep looking at his pick hand so often..

  • Nice playing , great tone and a really cool strat

  • wow, my all time favorite song. Thank you for jamming out, beautiful man just beautiful

  • Very good tone - what amp are you using?

  • Sweet strat. '70s reissue? Mine too.

  • dude your awesome

  • @TheWc1119 ,

Thanks man. I just uploaded a much newer cover of this song. This was almost three years ago. I appreciate the kind words. Peace. Brandon

  • Got a beautiful blond there

    very nice

  • nice job. Check mine out.

  • Hey is this just standard tuning?

  • @TheFifthTake it's half step down tuning which is the jimi hendrix tuning

  • @TheFifthTake

When I play it with the original recording it sounds closer to play it a half step down. But it's a bit difficult to tell

  • good job kid, a bit slow but good flow

  • @inexplicablefully,

Thanks man. I posted this one over two years ago. I have recently have a new one posted with a backing track. Much easier to stay in time. I think the new is better than this one. Peace. Brandon

  • @inexplicablefully he was maybe high , like Jimi haha

  • thats a sweet guitar youv got there dude

  • What is the amp that your are using ?

    Fantastic sound !!

  • I like your play mate!! You always play awesome, and I learn so much seeing your vids! I hope you can upload many vids, please follow doing. Excuse my poor English

Greetings from Spain. One fan of you... Really you play like an angel

  • Pet Snow Flake: The best hendrix player on youtube, without a doubt.

  • GuugXx,

This one is a little bland evern though the notes are fairly correct. Without a backing track it does not sound exactly right. Check out my new upload of this with a backing track and let me know your opinion. Peace. Branodon.

  • @petsnowflake Bland or no bland, I felt the passion man. pacrat90 is correct.

  • NICE MAN!

  • damn man, all i can say is you're a fuckin boss man!

good job, this sounds great. keep rockin bro!

  • stock pickups or cs 69's?

  • urabout2getownd,

    Custom Shop 69's.

  • Hey great cover. What kind of Strat is that. it looks great

  • Man, that bridge pickup is rough...

Don't highly recommend using that for anything else.

  • Man your awesome, great job! Hendrix for ever!

  • good job kid, keep going! thumbs up from me

  • Playing this to a metronome would help, nice licks though.

  • Great, and it helps me to get some parts of the song that i dunno now how to play

  • Salut ! avec quel ampli tu joues ?? t'as vraiment un son proche de Hendrix bravo

  • that was great! jimi did play it live though...you can find it on youtube...

  • Dude that was hella sweet. Rock on bro.

  • CrackinCrew,

Thanks man. I am glad you liked it. Peace. Brandon

  • A pleasure to listen to :)

  • amazing cover man

  • hey dude could you pleeeeasse like make a tutorial video or a slower one cause i really want to learn this

  • Amazing, both the song and your rendition of the Mayer cover. What kind of Strat its beautiful?

  • Nice tone!!!

  • Nice tone!!!

  • Nice tone!!!

  • Actually very good. Every song should be the performer's interpretation of it, injecting who we are and where we are developmentally at the time... each performance is a snap-shot of us at that time. Good job. Check out my version.

  • Dude r u serious I was just joking

  • Dude r u serious I was just joking

  • dc2391,

How did you know? I am glad school is out now I can have a lot more time to play. Peace. Brandon

  • amazin cover man, wish i cud play it as good

  • janbosssa84,

I really appreciate it. I am going to redo this video soon if I ever get my main amp back from the repair shop. It is a little sloppy in places. It is always just a work in progress. Peace. Brandon.

  • I'm impressed :)

  • jmastersherm1,

Thanks man. Needs a little work. Probally Jimi's toughest song to do live without any backing. Peace. Brandon

  • pretty damn good job man keep it up! im learning the song right now too

  • scrapes08,

Thanks man. It is a tough one. When I get time I will post this one again. Good luck. Peace. Brandon

  • pet snowflake - he did play it live, just instrumental though, just look up jimi hendrix bold as love live on youtube

  • joeRAND0M,

I know he played it live a few times. Tough to play live with the two guitar parts on the album. Peace. Brandon

  • Sweet guitar!

  • very good mate! im gona do a few hendrix covers, i might get them up tomorrow, check them out if u can!

  • bellers,

thank you. Let me know when you get them up I would like to check them out. Peace Brandon

  • @petsnowflake hey mate just uploaded one there, see wat u think

  • can u tell me where u got the tabs?

  • Emofan82294,

I do not use tabs. Check out Andy Aledort's dvd on how Hendrix played the songs on Axix Bold As Love. He is much more informative the tabs imho. Thanks. Brandon.

  • hey petsnowflake, what do you think is a good hendrix song to start with, im not bad im pretty good at guitar but you seem more experienced so i wanted to know how you started with hendrix songs, and what good effects to use for jimi sounds

  • OmarElAli97,

I would strart with something like The Wind Cries Mary. You need a good fuzz pedal. I use a Barber Trifecta Fuzz, or a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face. You need an amp with good cleans but most of all I would recommend getting a strat with Custom Shop 69 pickups. The 69 pickups are amazing. They nail the Hendrix vibe.

As far as learning the songs I would get some of the DVDs by Andy Aledort. He is an expert at how Jimi played certain songs. I hope this helps. Peace. Brandon

  • How did you learn this?

  • ThePruductions,

I started by watching the Andy Aledort video. I then took small pieces at a time. It is one of Jimi's hardest songs to learn. This video is pretty much note for note how Hendrix played the one guitar part on the album. The key word is "one" guitar part. The album has multiple guitar parts played at once on the album. It might sound a litlle off to some because they are used to hearing all the guitar parts played together. Peace. Brandon

  • Link link?!

  • song is fucking hard to play, I can play little wing but this and castles made of sand just fuck me in the as everytime.

  • Fiddstx,

Well said. It is an extremely hard song to play. On the album there are mutiple guitar parts. Unless people play guitar they have no idea how hard this or many of Jimi's songs are to play. Peace. Brandon

  • I have a live version of Jimi playing this. That came with this box set i got as a gift. I will get it up here soon.

  • good job man !!! i've covered these two solos and i know they are hard !!!

    5*

  • selracterim2,

Thank you. Yes, they are extremely hard. Peace. Brandon

  • Great covers man :)

i was just wondering what kinda pedals you have? im thinking about buying a few,

  • Nice, I going to learn thiis song :)

  • Piranha900,

    Thak you. Brandon

  • hahaha does the john mayer version even compare to the hendrix version in terms of difficulty?

  • shredheadbob,

I don't think it is as good. He also omits the second solo. I really don't care for his tone on it. It is tough to remake a song because people are looking for everything the original has. I think Steve Vai's version is awesome.

If you have not seen it check out Eric Johnson's version of Are You Experienced. That song also had multiple guitar parts on the album along with some of the guitar parts played backwards. He plays it almost perfect. That dude is a beast. Brandon

  • @petsnowflake nice job however, the second solo in Jimi's version is just a modulation with a drum fill that's technically all one solo if you listen it doesn't really stop. and your clean tone in this is similar to John Mayer's tone, don't take offense to that comment. JM is a very good guitar player, listen to his "where the light is" version of "bold as love" for his "second" solo or you should check out his trio album TRY! if you like Jimi cuz he does a great cover of "wait until tomorrow"

  • very nice

  • bjrecordingstudio,

    I really appreciate it. Brandon

  • it's almost like there's to0o much control, y'now what im saying?

  • shredheadbob,

I appreciate your opinion. The tough thing is the studio version had two guitar parts on the album. This is one of the top 3 or 4 toughest Hendrix songs to play. Which makes it almost impossible to learn for an average guitaist like myself. Unless you play guitar it is hard to understand how hard this song is to cover. Do you happen to play guitar? If you play try and learn this one. Once you dig into it you will see what I mean. Thanks again. Brandon

  • @petsnowflake how long have you been working on this?

  • shredheadbob,

I worked on it a long time. I am not happy with all the parts of this video. I will post it again soon. Like I said before extremely hard song because of the two guitar parts on the album. It is also a hard song because it is a hard song. There is a lot more going on then it looks like. Most Hendrix songs are a lot more complex then they look. That is why guys like Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson etc. have all said there will never be anyone close to Hendrix again.

  • @petsnowflake Yeah what's craziest is that he was completely self taught. hahaha. and he developed perfect pitch from playing fo like 2 months straight. haha

  • good job!!!

  • grantnbrandonwazhea,

thank you. I am glad you liked it. Brandon

  • wow..nailed it...sick solo..inspiring.. cheers from nyc

  • TABWISH,

I really appreciat it. Thank you. Brandon

  • very nice, I can play it too ^^

you did it very well, but it is just me or - i don't think the melodi is right all the time (some parts you play faster than they should be played) - or is it just me :)?

  • nice cover dude!! what fuzz do you kick in at the solo?

  • Very nice guitar my friend.

  • And what kind of amp are you using? and with what settings?

  • that1hawaiianguy,

Peavey Classic 50. The settings are about standard. It is a great amp but the tone is the Custom Shop 69 pickups in my strat. Don't get me wrong it is a great amp. One of the best imho. Trust me you have to have theses pickups to nail the Hendrix tone. B

  • Holy shit man you are absolutly flawless! amazing,Please Please Tell me where you got the tabs

    Thanks!

  • Damn' man I think you're already pretty bold;-)

  • JILLMOL,

    Thank you. B

  • what were the settings on your muff?

  • i love your videos, you're so good. what kind of amp you use in this video?

  • nba9515,

    Thanks man. I use a Peavey Classic 50. B

  • there's two guitars in this song.. One that was recorded from the amp, and one was plugged directly into the mixing board... then he used a fuzz face on the amped guitar for the solo

  • Scooley,

That is correct. That is why it is so hard to cover. Peace. B

  • Jmi hendrix did do this song live

  • SilentAce86,

I have heard he played it live. It is tough because there are mutiple guitar parts on the album. I know he did not play it many times live. Thanks. B

  • If you like this song listen to Phish play it. I saw them play it live in Asheville earlier in the month and it was insane. Type in "phish asheville bold as love."

  • ugadawgs1984,

I checked it out. Pretty cool. Phish was just here in Indianapolis last Friday night. Thanks B

  • wow

  • 63fordat,

Thanks man. It is a tough song to nail without backing or the other guitar parts that are on the album. Lets face it you can't duplicate a masterpiece but so well. B

  • Romantase,

Thank you. I am glad you liked it. B

  • you try to play this, its so difficult, so shutup

  • erm actually you shut the fuck up cause i was replying to some guy who said this was shit

    i thought it was good

    you owe me an apology

  • oy vey! i thought you were trashing petsnowflake, thats why i got defensive. no need to get fussy, sorry

  • why you try to copy him........play your own stile.......there is not nothing good about copying...........please.....i see potential in you....don't ruin your stile.....because Impersonators don't go anywhere......PEASE......

  • zikahendrix,

Thank you. First off, you have to learn how to play at a high level before you can do your own stuff. Hendrix was not limited to just one style. His music was a combination of so many styles. His licks were so original and complex if you can come close to mastering it, you can play anything. I think the key to getting better is to keep learning new stuff. Hendrix gave us stuff that you can learn from forever. Thanks again. B

  • never truer....but its afterward....when you maybe play in front and audience or maybe recording a track and album....greetings.....

  • or we could all just be like john mayer and play it wherever the fuck you go, and take all the credit for the song :0

  • YEA......... :)-

  • John Mayer sucks!

  • @kosta224 How does he take all the credit? He plays a bunch of blues cover in his trio. He's bringing blues to a generation that hasn't either heard of it or doesn't appreciate it. Shit Clapton has played a bunch of covers and no one gives him shit, calm down. At least Mayer knows how to perform and play blues pretty damn well.

  • kosta224,

Very true. I like John Mayer a lot but our generation thinks he wrote this song. That is sad. I suppose there are people who know and then people who don't. Peace Kosta. Brandon

  • @kosta224 I love jimi hendrix but john mayer never takes credit for something thts not his

  • @kosta224 Jimi Hendrix was a great composer and guitarist and so is John Mayer. John Mayer is also a great singer. Hendrix isnt.

  • @joelclish I don't think Kosta said anything about John Mayer not being a great composer or guitarist...

He just said Mayer played it a lot and took credit for the song-which I must disagree with, because it's better for people who never heard of Jimi to be at least somewhat aware of the music made in previous generations...thanks to a certain someone who played this particular song a lot. Good music should be shared.

  • @joelclish I think hendrix is a great singer! >:O

  • @kosta224 well his vocals, and solo was way better than jimmi's so might as well take credit for it if you made it better than the original.

  • @godlikecharacta it's all subjective to the listener i suppose. i just prefer hendrix. i dont think its better than the original

  • pretty good

    but still needs some work

    =]

  • liladorablesyco,

This is one of Jimi's hardest songs. On the studio version there were mutiple guitar parts. He only played it live a couple of times. It is hard to make it sound totally right without the other guitar parts. It is also hard to achieve the tone without a stack of 1960 Marshalls and Jimi's talent. If you play, try and learn a few bars of this. It is not easy. B

    I

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. That was great. keep up the good work dude :D

  • skaterguy238,

    Thanks man. B

  • wow that was really good do you have tabs?

  • luvs2smooch2,

Thank you. I do not have a tab for this. I do not play by tabs. Thanks again. B

  • Hey nice cover, don't be afraid of tabs, they can help you with the details, the details make jimi hendrix the genius he was, anyone can make his own version. You have one of the best versions though :D thats for real!

  • what pedal did you use?

  • Ihate JohnMayer,

It is a Black Russian Big Muff Pi. I'm not the biggest fan of John Mayer either. Thanks B.

  • i do hate mayer as well ;)

  • cool gonna record my take for the intro real soon:D The slide at 0.18 is kinda misplaced, but its pretty good tho work on the fluency

  • Epiphonefan,

    Thanks. B

  • you rock !!!!!! I like that guitar looks just like mine!!!!

I think you should try voodoo child ( slight return)

  • stratocaster1959,

Thank you. This guitar is a 1996 CIJ. It is my favorite.

I already know voodoo child. I have been searching for the right wah pedal to nail the sound. I will post it soon. Thanks again. B

  • you know there is a jimi hendrix signature wah......

  • great job on all your vids, you play all the hendrix songs most people tend to skip because they feel they're too difficult.

just wondering, how did you learn? i play by ear...so i either get advice from people or listen to it over and over again, but that doesnt always work with hendrix, lol. just wondering, thanks

  • kosta224,

The thing that is tough, Jimi almost always picked with a down stroke motion. This is kind of strange and is definitely unheard of for someone who could play as fast as him.

I do not shy away from his harder songs. I know I don't play them perfect but it is a continual learning experience. That is why I mainly play Jimi's music, because it is so complex. A lot of music out today is so simple it is boring. I don't think the average person realizes how complex his music is.

  • kosta224,

Thank you very much for the kind words. When I first started I played totally by ear. You are right, that will only take you so far with Jimi's music. I then started studying Andy Aledorts videos. Those were very helpfull.

After I knew the chord phrasings and scales Jimi used, I would take a song and figure out where it was played on the neck. Then I practice it until it sounds right. Almost everyday I say, how did he come up with that. Amazing guitarist. Thanks again. B

  • amazing. i applaud you man.

how much did that bad boy cost

  • bendog2201102,

Thank you. I have about $850 in the guitar. It is a 1996 CIJ for the Japan market. It has Custom Shop 69 pickups. Thanks again.

  • Nice playing, so what fuzz pedal did you use for the solo? :-)

  • bricktopra3,

Thank you. I used the black Russian Big Muff. Thanks again.

  • For the record, he did play it live, but only once or twice.

  • great job dude. you really cant get a sound better than a strat

  • rhcpjohn444,

    I appreciate that. Thanks man.

  • Just have to comment this...absolutely brilliant ,love the guitar I play a 60s C.P strat myself with 69 custom shop pickups but man you would put it to shame and your playing is class,

    best cover on u tube

  • olearyd7,

I appreciate that. I love the Custom Shop 69's. This guitar sounds a little thinner then my other strat. Thanks again.

  • you need to loosen up man

  • Hey dumb ass, do you have any clue how hard this song is to play? Loosen up, what are you talking about? Hendrix never played this song live because it had numerous guitar parts on the album. It is one of his hardest songs.

This is one of the best covers on Youtube. Do me a favor, if you don't play keep your ignorant comments to yourself. If you do play, try and play this and see how stiff you are.

  • relax

  • great playing, man

which amp did you use? the peavey oder the crate?

  • razor141,

Thank you. I used the Peavey Classic 50.

  • i have the exact same guitar. mines being fitted with texas specials and the fret's are getting leveled. but even before that it was a GREAT guitar!!

  • I like the neck especially. It is a fairly narrow neck and is fast.

  • Really nice cover my friend and your only 14! Excellent!!!

  • Thank you. I am glad you liked it.

  • best drummers ever***

  • I don't know who is the best is but I have two drummers that I think are really good. The first is the drummer that Ted Nugent had on the Cat Scratch Fever album. Listen to Death by Misadventure. Great song by the way. I think his last name is Davies. I think he died recently.

I also think John Blackwell is really good. I obviously think Mitch Mitchell was really good drummer. I think he was really underated.

  • yeah he was really underrated. that is a good song too ..

  • I think that the best drummer ever is Neil Peart, from Rush. Their music style is totally different than Jimi's, but you gotta check that guy out. He's craaaaaaazy

  • Neil Pert is great but even he admitted that in comparison to Buddy Rich, he isn't even close. Of course, part of that is because he idolizes Buddy.

  • I don't know too many drummers. I've heard of Buddy Rich, but I've never seen him play (that I know of). I'll check him out.

  • alright thanks thats what i was thinking .. i saw how you said your friends dont like the classics and i agree with you mitch mitchell was one of the best drummers alive.

  • damn this is a dope cover probably one of the best ive heard.. ive been playing guitar or a year or so and i have always wanted to learn this song... where did you learn the song from?

  • I actually learned this one from a dvd guitar world had out a couple of years ago. I've tried reading tabs . . . but most seem inaccurate. The best way to learn imo is to watch other people and use your ear for what you can't see.

  • Extremely nice playing! You did a stellar job with a very hard song. This is as accurate as I have heard. I dig that you don't use any backing tracks or have the cd playing behind you. Your playing speaks for itself and is not masked by something playing in the background.

Almost every cover of this one here on Youtube has a backing track so you can't here the player stumbling on this song. Keep jamming and I salute you for tackling this one. Peace.

  • I really appreciate that. I would like to play with the bass and drum backing tracks on some songs. I do not like playing with the cd though. I think it can cover up what you are playing. Buddy Clontz hear on Youtube, does a good job of playing with the CD. His guitar is turned up much louder then the CD. You here him playing not Jimi in the background.

I would like to cover Spanish Castle Magic and Manic Depression but you almost have to have a bass and drum track on those. Thanks again.

  • what kind of fuzz are you running?

  • I am running a Big Muff with a little bit of reverb on this song. I have been searching hard for that "sound" fuzz. I have had the Homebrew UFO, Duncan Tweak Fuzz, the new Jimi Hendrix Fuzz, Big Muff, etc. Tough to get that sound.

I have read that Jimi would go through hundreds of Arbiter Fuzz Faces and pick out the "Good Ones". I have noticed that you can take two of the exact same kind of germanium fuzz pedals and they will not sound the same.
