Thanks for posting this. My car was dieing because this connector was loose. It looks like you can also get the part on the internet, part number 1P1439. Probably cheaper at a junk yard though.
yeah, when I put my ear real close to the cam cover right next to those 3 screws near the top engine mount it sounds the loudest. Almost like the chain is slapping off something.
@MrRaiders6769 If that is the case it sounds like you have a worn chain. When they get this bad it sounds like a diesel engine because the chain is loose and slapping against the cover. When it gets this bad do not wait to long to fix it because it is just a matter of time before it snaps or jumps.
OK, thanks for all the expert advice Rich. As always I`ll continue to spread the word for people to click on the ads to try to give you something back. BTW, I may be working in Nantucket with my wife next summer. If I go would you like to do a video on replacing a DOHC timing chain kit with my Saturn SL2 ?
@MrRaiders6769 Now that's one job i have not done yet on the s-series.It is pretty involved so i would prefer to do it on the two Saturns i have first.
@richpin06a The one big problem I`m having is that my engine sounds like a Diesel Engine. it`s not so loud off a cold start but gets louder when engine is up to temp. Some people say it`s the Timing Chain and some say it`s my lifters. Which one is easier to fix ? The only code that ever comes back is the knock sensor code with no check engine light. If I make a clear video of the sound while engine running could you give me your best guess ? Or what do i need to do to check the both ?
@MrRaiders6769 The best way to check this is to use a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise. If the noise is loudest at the end of the motor near the top mount then there is a very good chance that the timing chain is faulty.
Hey Rich, I`m clear that only the `02 S series coolant temp sensor contact has a brass tip. However Does all the S series Air Intake Sensors have brass tips or only the `02 model has it ? Thanks
Your videos are very helpful and well explained. I must ask, Were you/are you a master auto technician at a dealership? I've met and known many mechanics but it seems like you know way more and have better techniques then they do.
disconnecting the socket from the temp.sensor...and during this time the fan comes on to its highest speed ( temp.sensor was replaced already w/ new one)... but when i rest the computer by removing negative from battery and putting it back check engine will gone.. the problem here is why is it the cooling fan wont work even my temp gauge reaching it near about to 3/4 and coolant starts to boiled at reservoir tank. thanks
engine cooling fan is not working on my grand am 96 2.4 cyl. A/T. that why my engine temperature goes high up to 3/4 on the gauge and nearly to full but the cooling fan still wont work...it only works when i turn the a/c on, i also replace the temp.coolant sensor, there is no coolant fan switch on the block or the radiator and when i disconnect the temp.coolant sensor wire the fan will work on but the gauge wont work and CHECK ENGINE appears on the panel.
@richpin06a there is no trouble code check engine will only appears when i disconnecting the socket from the temp.sensor...and during this time the fan comes on to its highest speed ( temp.sensor was replaced already w/ new one)... but when i rest the computer by removing negative from battery and putting it back check engine will gone.. the problem here is why is it the cooling fan wont work even my temp gauge reaching it near about to 3/4 and coolant starts to boiled at reservoir tank. thanks
awesome good info i did not know that my ects was replaced but not the connector it wasnt full green and nasty but i would change this anyhow if i had known
I find it easier to use 3M scotchlocks under the bonnet because the soldered part gets rusty fast. doesn't matter if you use shrink tube or not. get the job done quicker too, altough I am soldering my whole life ... click-click and you're done.
@doublea422 scotchloks are a type of a permanent quick connector for connectin two wires. instead of soldering that can corrode you can use those, as they are really easy and effective and you don't even need to strip the wires.the also have a dab of lubricant inside to protect the connection against moist and corrosion eventually

Thanks Rich. Should I do the whole kit or just the chain ?
MrRaiders6769 3 months ago
@MrRaiders6769 Differently the whole kit.

Well I have that Haynes repair manual. It has quality detailed information. Seams like it`s maybe a four hour job. Probably easier with two people.

Sorry Rich, I mean the connector for the air temp sensor.
MrRaiders6769 3 months ago
@MrRaiders6769 The air temp sensor connector is an excellent replacement for the coolant temp sensor connector.
richpin06a 3 months ago
How about the contacts for the air temp sensor. Are they brass or plastic on the S-series ?

@MrRaiders6769 All s-series that i know of have plastic tip air temp sensors not sure of the 02 must investigate.
