Polygraphs aren't 100 percent trustable, but they're helpful. However, if you mix it with microexpression study, it's a good way of detecting, I guess.

still a bad experiment... Daniel normally talks a LOT during a hand, and if Phil asked him a question it wouldn't be that kind of yes-or-no question (for which Daniel might just not answer!)

Also the rapid/shallow breathing can ALSO be a result of being excited about having a monster hand. Adreneline is often released to the degree where your hands shake uncontrollably, due to "positive" excitement, not just stress of being "caught in a lie".
