I've still got the original vinyl I bought back in 73, and when it's quiet listen to these amazing tracks...crackles and all, it still sounds so much better than the remasterings and remixes...and with headphones the stereo effects are still awesome..not to mention Piltdown Man ...
Sit on the bells ma loonies and quines, tis a wonderful thing and have loved this music for all the memories happy and sad, got both LPs originals and they sit with all the rest of the acoustic collection, groundbreaking for the day...
This makes me think of the human condition. At times placid and calm and contemplative. at other times chaos and entropy. The human mind and emotions are a very diverse thing.
oh yes... happy New Year everyone... who would thought we would all make it to see 2011... not unless you got in your mind you will live forever. I guess spiritually we all will

@laitdevache Of course it is! Back then this was a superb breakthrough, the 2003 version is like many other things you might find, it has nothing of unique...
This side of the album, seems to be a settling down from the first. At first. Then when Mike goes into the Sailor's Hornpipe section, all bets are off. I actually like this side of the album a little better then the front. I LOVE the front side. Music, for the sake of music. This is what is missing in today's "junk trash noise" referred to by radio as music. Love this genre. Bring it back!
i want MIKE PATTON to do a cover of this from minute 9 onwards <3<3<3

7:20 onwards used to terrify me and a kid. I used to have nightmares about the singing monster.

@SawyerSauce Same here! I was fascinated by the voice though. Sounded a bit like my mother tongue.

This was a pretty spooky LP to begin with... then that damn neanderthal part kicks it up into full-fledged SCARY.

I think part two is the more subtile, laid back section of Tubular bells, with the exception of The caveman of course. Such great music...

I love this!
I always thought I preferred Side 1 instead, but <3 Bagpipe Guitars SO MUCH

"SHLOOOOOW!" "SHLOOOOOOOOW!" "SHLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH NOOOOOOOOOOO!"
And everybody just keeps playing fast, so Mike Oldfield screams at them to slow down. :P
Can't believe Mike Oldfield did all those screams by himself... his crazy whacked growling sounds more legit than all death metal growls out there...
vanishy0urself 1 year ago
@vanishy0urself Mike likes to play fast too, listen to "ambient guitars" on TB2003, but when he does it sounds so beautiful...
He was drunk when he growled on The caveman

@gibderfenson I know he was drunk, I was just making good-natured fun of it... he was drunk and STILL sounded better than 95% death metal singers...

Fabulous album very proud to own this masterpiece by Mike Oldfield

Sublime music, simple, yet it carries me away. This early version is better than the re-recording of 2003.
Why does this have a gift for music and we don't have it ?
