Luna is a resident orca! his original pod, l pod, is a fish only eating (resident) pod! they belong with J and K pod. the barking of the dog sounds similar to that of a seal underwater, but luna, being a resident orca, has no nterest at all in eating the dog.

I think it is more curious then anything. There was a recorded attack by Orcas on a research party and the researches think that the barking of the dogs was very similar sounding underwater to that of a seals but the difference makes them more curious then anything.

@MrNyKsY Duuuuude. That was like totally not a whale(just a nickname). It was actually a righteous dolphin(Orca, the largest dolphin species). A cool and gnarly fact about "resident" Orca's is that they are on a fish only diet. Also, if he was trying to eat the dog, he probably would have opened his mouth and tried to grab him. Party on, dude.

Orcas are supremely social creatures, and Luna's tragedy wasn't his death so much as his having been cut off (for reasons unknown) from others like him. Sure, this vid is cute. @spwb2k Definitely not ;P Luna was just a curious calf who lost her family and found companionship with boats and the people on them. If she wanted to eat the dog, she wouldn't just nuzzle it. Also, Luna was a resident orca, which means she preferred fish over mammals. This was just a very curious and playful calf :)

Those not sure why Luna was so intrigued by the dog and hell us in general is because Luna was separated from her pod/family. Yeah stating the obvious right but most people don't know that Killer whales stay with their mothers up to 20 years they live very similar like us. Even develop their own language differentiating from other Orca pods/families. May that tug boat who killed her go to the bottom of the sea with her.

I watched the documentary of Luna a real heart warming watch and it shows that the Orca is a highly intelligent animal a real beauty of the oceans.... there is another docu about Orcas if you look it up can't remember what it was called but the saying "law of the tongue " comes from this docu really opens your eyes ... but it's like everything in the end humans in one way or another kill everything we should be so ashamed of our race!!

@dicktp Because the dog (I'm Labrador breeder and I love dogs) is another incessantly barking dog, not well trained enough for this type of interaction. Just my opinion. If you ask a dog to stop barking, they should immediately. The hearing of these mammals is acute.
