love shooting star.very"city/highway of tomorrow"winds of sirius(second piece)is also very good.sorry malls that one has too much atmosphere to strip away!
How long do we have to wait for a box that collects everything Les Baxter wrote ? According to the discogsentry he have written over 150 filmscores, it would have made a nice box. I mean even Merazbow got his own 50cds box..

@mtramsay The first track used here is called "A Look Back at Earth" off the album SPACE ESCAPADE. By the way, thank you to jwander3957 for posting this. I would also like to add for the benefit of people saying posting stuff like this violates copyright that I had never heard of this music before seeing this post and I went and bought the album SPACE ESCAPADE as a result of seeing this, so actually posting these things can work in favor of the copyright holders.
On one hand, yes LB was somewhat "ahead" of his time; on the other, when I listen to his concept music (NOT the syrupy easy-listening stuff like "Wake the Town and Tell the People") I hear a lot of Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky in his original compositions. Although fun and pleasant to hear, this particular work was not Les Baxter at his best or most original. As for "Ritual of the Savage" of "Tamboo"? Now, you're talking fine tonally accessible yet original "modern" music.
It's sad that the work of Baxter and composers of the era was stripped of its atmosphere and beauty and perverted into mall music. Baxter was truly a master of the cool atmosphere... transporting you far beyond your ranch house in the suburbs to other worlds.
@camparianbliss No one takes this seriously as carefully composed and conducted music...Although it is complex, invigorating and escapist. 1st rate musical masterpiece.
@jwander3957 Yes, indeed. I tend to hear a lot of Stavinsky and Ravel in his original pieces. Of course, I don't count the "fluff" he did purely for commercial reasons (Poor People of Paris, April in Portugal, etc.....) I think that history will prove Baxter as much a "serious" composer as Copland or Barber, et al.
Thank goodness for the Hubble space program eh...? :)

One of Baxter's best albums, I love it! Another favorite of mine is 'Jewels of the Sea'.
