@xnenaxo You may benefit from washing your hair with straight lemon juice. It has cleaning properties & contains a lot of oils which would be moisturizing for your hair & scalp. You'll need a comb in the shower to work out the tangles under the water. You may also benefit from washing with just water & using lemon juice on the ends. If that doesn't work maybe washing with water & using a small amount of natural conditioner will work. Can't say for sure. It's definitely a trial & error process.
@xnenaxo I don't use any other products. Just clay for washing & maybe a lemon juice conditioning rinse before the clay. I try to let my hair air dry but occasionally I'll use a dryer if I'm in a hurry. I also use a flat iron tool that curls my hair when I want it curled. It's hard to say what would be best for your hair. It depends on if your hair & scalp are dry, oily or normal & if your hair is course or fine.
@xnenaxo When you eat a very clean diet like this one, you stop having body odor of any kind. The delicate areas of the body have a very delicate PH balance & when you use soap on those areas, it throws off the PH balance. Imagine putting soap in your eyes or mouth...they're very similar. I've had people tell me that their gynecologist's told them not to use soap on those areas to avoid infections & other problems. It only seems gross because we've been led to believe we have to use soap. :0)
Hi Rawsynergytv! Great video I am really inspired to try this! Please can you tell me why you use baking soda, sorry for dumb question but ive not come across it before. Many thanks for all your help and great advise xxxxx
@drivertv666 Baking soda really cleans the hair and scalp of impurities. I have since switched from baking soda to using clay. I like that much better. :0)
Well, this young woman is lovely and she looks absolutely beautiful. She's inspiring for me, really, as I keep trying to go no poo and wind up cracking up around day 3 and washing my hair with shampoo from the health food store. I keep trying and failing to not wash my hair and it's sad. This girl is kind of inspiring though. She gives me hope.
I'm so glad you mentioned that you use an aluminum-free baking soda. I went no-poo last week and I completely didn't realize that baking soda had aluminum in it! Do you have any recommendations for any cheaper no-aluminum baking sodas and where to find them?
@greeneondine I use Bob's Red Mill baking soda. You can get it at Whole Foods and most health food stores. If you can't find it in the stores, you can always find it on Amazon. :0)
@sunnydaytofu I had laser hair removal many years ago so I don't have a big need for shaving. But when I do, I use a man's electric Norelco with the 3 spinning blades. I never use sunscreen. If I need sun protection because I'm going to be in the sun for many hours without shade, I use a hat and light weight protective clothing. :0)
@Mochamonchi Just water. The reason there's no smell is because my diet is so clean...there's nothing to create an odor. I was skeptical too but after trying it out, I discovered it wasn't a problem. Soap can actually do more harm than good to your private areas because they're so sensitive. It can have a negative impact on the acid alkaline balance on those delicate parts. So, if you do use soap, it's very important to use something extremely gentle with no harsh ingredients or chemicals. :0)
@rawsynergytv I see. Thanks for answering my question. :) It makes a lot of sense. I should stop eating cooked food then. I'm sick today and I don't like being sick and I saw your video about how you don't get sick or have cramps because you eat raw food only.
@ButhThe Some people do but I think it would be too drying, irritating the delicate ph balance of the skin making you itchy. So, I'm just not sure about it. If you do use it, make sure it's aluminum free.
@BloodyxCross When you say fat & horrible do you mean full of static or just unmanageable? Have you tried using the clays I mention in my update videos?
@rawsynergytv Hey - first of all: THANKS a lot! :D I finally solved the problem - seems I just used too much baking soda :/ but the lemon REALLY did the trick - my hair feels wonderful now, thanks, thanks, thanks! :))
@DragonflySparrow Aluminum free baking soda mixed with a little water works great as a deodorant if you need it. Just don't use it right after shaving. :0)
@rebelemoo It really helps to follow a clean diet, like low fat, raw vegan. Since I changed my diet, I haven't had any blackheads in two years. I think when you eat a diet that's higher in fat, you have more oils detoxing out of your skin and it really traps the dirt. Just my theory. You could try clay masks like bentonite or european clay. Those are really good for detoxing your skin and cleaning your pores.
I've gone no shampoo but it's only been a few days and uuuggghhhh…I'm going to wash with baking soda and apple cider vinegar on Saturdays so I don't go to church with a greasy head :D but otherwise I'm working on adjusting to nothing on my hair :)
@KarisFaith316 Awesome! I found out clay works even better. I talk about it in my hair care update videos. I like it way better than the baking soda and it really controls the grease! :0)
@truthlovepeace1 That's such a good question! I had laser hair removal many years ago on my under arms and legs and have very little hair in those areas. I usually use a mans electric Norelco shaver on my legs. I would google the cosmetic database and search for a shaving cream that's listed as green, which means it's very safe to use on your body. I don't use soap on my body except for hand washing. I use Nature's Paradise coconut hand soap which I found on the cosmetic database website. :0)
I've been using sodium bicarbonate and water for shampoo and apple cider vinegar and water for a conditioner, it's really working well for me, but I'm interested in trying the clay you talked.
I was wondering what deodorant/antiperspirant you use/recommend, or if you find you need any on 80/10/10
You don't typically need any deodorant when eating a low fat, raw vegan diet but if you need it, I recommend a small amount of aluminum free baking soda mixed with a little water and rubbed under your arms. It works great, is inexpensive and very natural. :0)
You are so beautiful and inspiring, thank you so much for your videos ♥ Your hair is such a gorgeous blonde - do you mind sharing which hair colour you use? I have been experimenting with different brands of herbal dyes (that unfortunately contain some chemicals, but much less than other hair colourants, plus they aren't tested animals) but am yet to find one that lightens enough and is ashy rather than gold/yellow. Thanks, peace and love x
@MelindaSS1 Wow, thank you so much for that! I get my hair done in a salon but I know she just uses bleach (no heat) and I believe the product is by Mitchell but I'm not sure about the spelling. Good luck finding the perfect color. I know how difficult that can be. Big hugs! XO
If you wear makeup, you can apply coconut oil on your face and eyes. Then take a cotton pad and soak it was warm water - then remove the makeup. It is by far the best makeup remover. It also cleans any dirt buildup off your skin as well. I do that, then have applied coconut oil back on my face to moisturize. enjoy!
@FM897 I never do. When you only eat pure, living plant foods, your body gets naturally clean inside and out and doesn't produce any body odors of any kind. It's a really nice bonus. :0) Until you get to that point, you can use a little baking soda (aluminum free) and water for deodorant if you need it.
@ylso1223 It's different for everyone. If your hair is more on the oily side, it may take longer. My hair used to be super oily and it took about a month to balance out. For those with normal hair, it will probably happen much more quickly. A great website to look for gentle cleansers is cosmeticdatabase. Look for any cleansers with a zero rating. The higher the rating, the more unhealthy the product. :o)
What brand of baking soda do you use? I bought a box of Arm&Hammer the other day and I use some sometimes to replace tooth paste and it works great! I'll try it on my hair in the shower right now, I wonder if there is aluminum in the Arm&Hammer, I suppose yes if it does not mention otherwise. I watched the two third of your videos already. Thank you so much for your amazing inspiration, it is well needed.
@TheSuperAstro Yes, there's aluminum in A&H soda. I use Bob's aluminum free baking soda from the health food store and really like it. Though I've recently switched from using baking soda & lemon, to using moroccan red clay to wash my hair, which I like even better! I need to do an update video soon. Thank you so much for all your kind words. :o)
@rawsynergytv I'll look for both aluminum-free baking soda and moroccan red clay at the food store then, I like baking soda on my teeth about twice a week, and since dental hygienists use that, I believe it's good. Are you still using only toothbrush and floss?
I tried the baking soda and then lemon juice just as you explained on my hair (before the bananas) and I enjoyed it, but I find it will be kind of a hassle to do that two times a week, so I'm glad you came up with a new solution now.
@TheSuperAstro A bit of warning on the red clay...if you have blonde hair, it may change the shade of your hair slightly. I don't think it's permanent and it's definitely not very noticeable but just be careful & rinse it really well. It makes my hair so clean, soft & light that it can create a lot of static too. Other than that, I love it. I experimented w/o t.paste for 6 months but my teeth got so stained & had plaque buildup, so I went back to t.paste. My d.hygienist was not too happy w/ me!
@rawsynergytv Oh that surprises me about the plaque. May be you could try baking soda instead of tooth paste. Are you eating nuts and/or seeds? I think those might be responsible for it.
@TheSuperAstro I know, I was shocked! I only eat nuts or seeds on a very rare occasion. I agree that fat will definitely cause plaque buildup. So I don't really know why I had it. Since I'm back to using t.paste, I've had no problems, thankfully.
@rawsynergytv What a liberation it is not to use any soap anymore in the shower, I discovered recently how it made my skin dry for a few hours and made me feel uncomfortable, despite trying different "natural" soaps. Knowing the unnecessity of it is the real liberation, a little like when learning fruits & veggies provide all the nutrients we need, and more. Thanks to you! :))
@TheSuperAstro It's SO liberating! Glad you feel the same. Soaps are so harsh and really upset the natural balance of our skin. I'm amazed at how much my skin has improved, especially on my face. :o)
Thanks for experimenting for all of us and sharing. I've been wanting to try no poo but am fearful since I have naturally curly hair. I'll try your routine. Have you tried skin brushing while in the shower? I have not used soap since I was 18 (my Korean OB/GYN discouraged the use of soap stating it was one of the causes of premature aging). I was just using wash cloths in the shower but for 1 year now I have been using a skin brush and LOVE it!
@murn98 You're welcome :o) I've heard many people w/ curly hair do great w/o shampoo. There's a transition period but it doesn't last too long. I've only tried skin brushing before showering and didn't care too much for it. You do it in the shower? What kind of brush do you use? I totally believe what your OB said about soap. My skin has improved a lot without it.
@rawsynergytv My first brush was a long handled natural wood/vegetable fiber bristle one but was too rough on my skin to use dry. I never used it in the shower because I figured the water would probably damage it. Then I found a really inexpensive one ($4) that is also long handled but plastic and has softer plastic bristles. Using it in the shower makes it not feel so rough to me. I even have a smaller one I use on just my face in the shower if I have time. Anyhow, I love it! Good luck!
@murn98 I guess that's the reason I didn't care for skin brushing, the hard bristles against my sensitive skin was just too painful. I'll have to try the softer plastic brushes and see if it makes a difference. Thank you for sharing with me. :o)
Hi! I am on a natural/ homemade/ organic products makeover at the moment :) so this was very useful. However, I have some doubts concerning hair coloring. Since I color my hair in a rather dark color, I'm afraid that both the baking soda and the lemon juice will lighten my hair. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance x
@madeiranislander When you mix in the baking soda, make sure the water is really hot & stir/shake it really well so it's completely dissolved. This will help it rinse out well. It shouldn't effect your color though. Instead of lemon, you could use fresh limes or try 1 TBLs of ACV in 1 cup of water as a rinse. The ACV will actually lock in your hair color. Just be sure to rinse it really well and don't over do it on the ACV. You could also add essential oils to the ACV mixture for a better aroma.
Cleanser: a small bit of olive/sunflower or (better still) cocnut oil...rub it in and then put a hot towel on your face to steam your face.
For washing...a bar of soap is far far better than any shower gels...there aren't as much chemicals etc. I don't really agree with washing with just water for hygiene :/
Oh and i've never had any problems with bits of lemon/baking soda in my hair...I did have the itchy scalp from the baking soda!
I use about 1 tblsp baking soda, 1 tblsp honey and a cup of hot water and pour it into an old shampoo bottle (save the environment by not buying new bottles) and then top it up with water. If you use hot water there will be no problem with lumps. For conditioner I use 2 tblsp apple cider vinegar with cup water and a few drops of lavender essence (or a cinnamin stick+vanilla) and again fill the bottle with water. If i am away from home I just use approx half a lemon for conditioner.
Have to try this! It's so different without the shampoo and conditioner, but your hair looks so pretty! Love your basil plant! :) Thank you for doing this video and all your other ones! Take care! Tara
Thanks for the video. I am slow to ween off shampoo and soaps, have gotten organic and healthier versions (i hope, anyway). Am curious tho if you shave any body hair and if so; what do you use to do that? shave cream. gel, soap?
@StarFlower99654 Many years ago, I had laser treatment to remove the hair on my legs and underarms. Even though it was very expensive (& extremely painful), It was the best money I ever spent. I still have some hair that grows in those areas but it's very fine and not too noticeable and I use a man's Norelco 3 head electric shaver to remove it.
I loved your video. I've been trying a "poo-free" routine for the last week, and so far it's been going great. I was wondering, though - how often is it recommended to wash your hair with baking soda and lemon juice? Also, do you have any recommendations for homemade non-toxic deodorants? : ) Thanks for the video!
@EmilyMaija Congrats on success with your new routine! I wash mine 2 x a week with b. soda & lemon. Some people may last a week or longer. If u needed to wash more often, I don't think it would be a problem since the ingred. are natural. A great deodorant is just a little bit of b. soda and water mixed together. Before I began my raw journey, I found this method to be better than regular deodorant. Also zinc water. It's a supplement made by Water Oz but I used it as deodorant & it worked great.
Made me laugh with the part about the bits of food in your hair...you have a good sense of humor!
Great information and thanks for doing the experiementing and telling us the results.
I wonder if the lemon oil is a conditioner for split ends? It is good aromatherapy. nonetheless
One thing I would say is that plastics are estrogen disruptors and I would use them briefly rather than store baking soda, water or lemon juice in 'em.
@researchfiend Thank you. It does seem as though the lemon oils act as a conditioner for me. I don't know how it affects split ends, though I don't seem to have any. Thank you for sharing about the plastics. I agree. I always use what I put in them immediately.
Thank you so much for sharing this~I am going to try your haircare routine! =) I have a question, do you use sunblock to protect your skin from the sun?
Also, at 41 I was able to stop my hair from getting some gray by eating seaweed and black sesame seeds (small portion, raw and soaked)
I love your videos, they are so helpful and motivating! I am slowly transitioning into 80/10/10.
@Jlwattts11 You're welcome! I'm really happy you're benefitting from the videos.
That's fantastic that you put an end to those grays. I love that!
I don't use any sunblock but I also don't spend long periods of time in the sun. Sunblock blocks the absorption of vitamin D and most sunblocks are full of unhealthy ingredients. If I were going to be out in the sun for a long time, to avoid burning, I'd wear a big hat and lightweight clothes to protect my skin. Hope this helps. :o)
I wash my hair with 1 lemon juice WITH 2 eggs, and few drops volitile oil. it's works perfectly. :) if it makes your hair greasy it means you didn't wash it radically. the lemon started to remove the grease but, can't cope with it.
If you think the baking soda can be a little drying it could actually be the combination of baking soda and lemon juice. You should try using the baking soda and then a vinegar rinse with 1 tbsp avc in a cup of water. It balances the pH of your hair after you've used baking soda.
@teabee09 Actually the lemon juice works well for me, it's when I don't use it that my scalp gets dry. ACV works great though, as an alternative or instead of lemon juice. Thank you for sharing. :o)
I was a little reluctant to get rid of my shampoo, but i decided I could experiment with my skin. a week and a half ago, I stopped using soap and face washes, and my zit that i had for 1 month had gone away! it was awesome, and thanks for the tip.
@boredtoexhileration I use a soft toothbrush and brush dry, without toothpaste. I usually do this without wetting the toothbrush first, which is supposed to help remove tarter by 60%. Once in a while I use Eco-Dent toothpowder for an extra deep clean feeling. I also floss everyday and go to the dentist for a cleaning every six months.
what about hair dye? I need to cover the grays and I will not go au natural for that if it doesn't cover the grays..anyone know what to do for that? thanks.
@vicky2c Have you tried Henna hair color, Vicky? It's supposed to be all plant based and pretty good for your hair. I have a friend who uses it and her hair looks healthy and super shiny. You may even be able to find a salon near you, who uses henna.
do you find that simply using coconut oil clogs your pores? I tried it in the past and I seemed to have broken out quite a bit, but this was before my 811 transition :)
@megantherawvegan It's funny you ask, because it used to totally clog my pores. I don't know if it's just the change in my diet, or the whole "lack of" skin care routine but my skin does amazing with it now. I also think I'm applying way less than before which probably makes a big difference. If I put on too much, I notice red bumps, especially on the tops of my cheeks. I waited a few months into this new routine before using the coconut oil again. Not sure if that made a difference either. :o)
@kisschix09 Yes, and it worked nicely. If I'm going to use the oil cleansing method, I prefer using coconut oil. Plus it just smells wonderful! If you mix it with castor oil, it'll unclog all your pores and clear away blackheads and oil plugs. :o)
Thanx for video! This topic is in the air! I wash my body with just water too, but i wash underarms with oatmeal flour (just make this flour in cofee grinder) and u can wash ur face with this oatmeal flour . I use Jojoba oil for face
I've been using a vinegar rinse after shampooing, but hadnt thought of replacing shampoo with baking soda! I'm going to give that a try... i think the baking soda and the lemon or vinegar would cancel each other out so you are left with a healthy ph :)
I have a hard time adjusting to no soap on my body, but why not give it a try :)
oh! and the coconut oil is great for taking off make up! thats what i use. just run it in and remove with a hot washcloth :)
@joyinc30 Thank you. Yes, the two work really well together. ACV is great too. If you end up giving up soap, I'd love to know how it works out for you.
Coconut oil is wonderful! Thank you for sharing. :o)
@joyinc30 If you decide to try again, you may want to try adding more baking soda. This is what saved me when I was super greasy in the beginning. Also, it can take a little transition period for your body to get used to this new routine, and it is normal to be more greasy at first. I totally understand though. Having greasy hair feels yucky! You could also try a slower transition by using a SUPER gentle shampoo and no conditioner for a while and then try to switch to a no shampoo routine. KIT!
@joyinc30 I use 1 tablespoon. If my hair is really dirty or greasy, I use a heaping tablespoon. Also, you really have to work it into your roots and scalp if they're greasy. So just rub your fingers into your scalp, just like you would with shampoo but you'll need a little extra time to work it in. You want to rub it into your hair where it's greasy too. If you use the lemon juice, be sure to dilute it really well before you put it on your scalp, otherwise it'll make your hair oily. :o)
Wow how amazing - I never thought you could use anything other than shampoo to wash your hair! I'm going to use this on my daughter's hair as she hates shampoo (as you can imagine). One question though, I'm allergic to lemon so wouldn't want to use this on my hair or scalp. Do you have any other non-citrus suggestions other than lemon juice? Thanks again for another great video.
@alvahurley1 Hi Alva! The only other thing I can think of is using apple cider vinegar. It may smell really bad but if you dilute it and rinse your hair really well, when it dries, you shouldn't smell anything. I'm going to send you a link I just found cause I can't post it here.
And be sure with your daughter, to use much less of everything and be careful not to get lemon juice in her eyes. I know you're super careful, just need to share for the rest of the peeps reading this. :o)
what about toothpaste? I use Wedela Salt Toothpaste!... Something I've noticed since I changed to natural toothpaste is I never have plaque buildup on my teeth now, not even after drinking Coke! <-- Not that I drink that ever anyway, but thought I'd try it to see the difference! I am now a happy vegetarian, and love my diet! Many thanks to your wonderful videos and information! :)
@patellaman I usually just use water but sometimes I'll use Eco-Dent tooth powder. It's great stuff! I never have plaque anymore either. I attribute it to my diet because I used to have a terrible problem with plaque before 80/10/10.
I'm happy to hear you changed your diet. That's fantastic!!! Thank you for sharing!
Yaaaaaay! I've been longing for your new videos, and now i'm on my 801010 adveture day 10 :)
Do what you love, Love what you do and others will be inspired to do the same.
And I have a book called "Organic body vare Recipes" written by Stephanie Tourles that is really good. The author is a raw foodist and the skin and beauty tips and tricks are too :) It's a book I can truley recommend and it has recipes for hair, skin and lots more. Even sunscreen reipes :)

I have a kind of embarrassing question, but my mom really wanted to know...
What do you use for your private area and your armpits?
Because just using water seems like your armpits would still stink...
And the private area well... water seems to me like it won't clean it very well...
I really want to know about this... so I'd be really happy if you'd answer my question... :) Thank you very much~!!

I've gone no shampoo but it's only been a few days and uuuggghhhh…I'm going to wash with baking soda and apple cider vinegar on Saturdays so I don't go to church with a greasy head :D but otherwise I'm working on adjusting to nothing on my hair :)
KarisFaith316 9 months ago
@KarisFaith316 Awesome! I found out clay works even better. I talk about it in my hair care update videos. I like it way better than the baking soda and it really controls the grease! :0)

@rawsynergy What about shaving?? What do you use instead of soap or shaving lotion?? I am stuck on this one. Also, love your channel :)
truthlovepeace1 11 months ago
@truthlovepeace1 That's such a good question! I had laser hair removal many years ago on my under arms and legs and have very little hair in those areas. I usually use a mans electric Norelco shaver on my legs. I would google the cosmetic database and search for a shaving cream that's listed as green, which means it's very safe to use on your body. I don't use soap on my body except for hand washing. I use Nature's Paradise coconut hand soap which I found on the cosmetic database website. :0)
rawsynergytv 11 months ago
Loving your videos!
I've been using sodium bicarbonate and water for shampoo and apple cider vinegar and water for a conditioner, it's really working well for me, but I'm interested in trying the clay you talked.
I was wondering what deodorant/antiperspirant you use/recommend, or if you find you need any on 80/10/10
hollymcs 11 months ago
@hollymcs Awesome! Yes, the clay is great.

MelindaSS1 11 months ago
@MelindaSS1 Wow, thank you so much for that! I get my hair done in a salon but I know she just uses bleach (no heat) and I believe the product is by Mitchell but I'm not sure about the spelling. Good luck finding the perfect color. I know how difficult that can be. Big hugs! XO

If you wear makeup, you can apply coconut oil on your face and eyes. Then take a cotton pad and soak it was warm water - then remove the makeup. It is by far the best makeup remover. It also cleans any dirt buildup off your skin as well. I do that, then have applied coconut oil back on my face to moisturize. enjoy!

I know this is a very personal question but do you ever get body odor anywhere? If so, how do you deal with it?
FM897 1 year ago
@FM897 I never do. When you only eat pure, living plant foods, your body gets naturally clean inside and out and doesn't produce any body odors of any kind. It's a really nice bonus. :0) Until you get to that point, you can use a little baking soda (aluminum free) and water for deodorant if you need it.
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
@ylso1223 It's different for everyone. If your hair is more on the oily side, it may take longer. My hair used to be super oily and it took about a month to balance out. For those with normal hair, it will probably happen much more quickly. A great website to look for gentle cleansers is cosmeticdatabase. Look for any cleansers with a zero rating. The higher the rating, the more unhealthy the product. :o)
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
What brand of baking soda do you use? I bought a box of Arm&Hammer the other day and I use some sometimes to replace tooth paste and it works great! I'll try it on my hair in the shower right now, I wonder if there is aluminum in the Arm&Hammer, I suppose yes if it does not mention otherwise. I watched the two third of your videos already. Thank you so much for your amazing inspiration, it is well needed.
TheSuperAstro 1 year ago
@TheSuperAstro Yes, there's aluminum in A&H soda. I use Bob's aluminum free baking soda from the health food store and really like it. Though I've recently switched from using baking soda & lemon, to using moroccan red clay to wash my hair, which I like even better! I need to do an update video soon. Thank you so much for all your kind words. :o)
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
@rawsynergytv I'll look for both aluminum-free baking soda and moroccan red clay at the food store then, I like baking soda on my teeth about twice a week, and since dental hygienists use that, I believe it's good. Are you still using only toothbrush and floss?
I tried the baking soda and then lemon juice just as you explained on my hair (before the bananas) and I enjoyed it, but I find it will be kind of a hassle to do that two times a week, so I'm glad you came up with a new solution now.
TheSuperAstro 1 year ago
@TheSuperAstro A bit of warning on the red clay...if you have blonde hair, it may change the shade of your hair slightly. I don't think it's permanent and it's definitely not very noticeable but just be careful & rinse it really well. It makes my hair so clean, soft & light that it can create a lot of static too. Other than that, I love it. I experimented w/o t.paste for 6 months but my teeth got so stained & had plaque buildup, so I went back to t.paste. My d.hygienist was not too happy w/ me!
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
@rawsynergytv Oh that surprises me about the plaque. May be you could try baking soda instead of tooth paste. Are you eating nuts and/or seeds? I think those might be responsible for it.
TheSuperAstro 1 year ago

TheSuperAstro 1 year ago
@TheSuperAstro It's SO liberating! Glad you feel the same. Soaps are so harsh and really upset the natural balance of our skin. I'm amazed at how much my skin has improved, especially on my face. :o)

Thanks for experimenting for all of us and sharing. I've been wanting to try no poo but am fearful since I have naturally curly hair. I'll try your routine. Have you tried skin brushing while in the shower? I have not used soap since I was 18 (my Korean OB/GYN discouraged the use of soap stating it was one of the causes of premature aging). I was just using wash cloths in the shower but for 1 year now I have been using a skin brush and LOVE it!
murn98 1 year ago
@murn98 You're welcome :o) I've heard many people w/ curly hair do great w/o shampoo. There's a transition period but it doesn't last too long. I've only tried skin brushing before showering and didn't care too much for it. You do it in the shower? What kind of brush do you use? I totally believe what your OB said about soap. My skin has improved a lot without it.
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
@rawsynergytv My first brush was a long handled natural wood/vegetable fiber bristle one but was too rough on my skin to use dry. I never used it in the shower because I figured the water would probably damage it. Then I found a really inexpensive one ($4) that is also long handled but plastic and has softer plastic bristles. Using it in the shower makes it not feel so rough to me. I even have a smaller one I use on just my face in the shower if I have time. Anyhow, I love it! Good luck!
murn98 1 year ago
@murn98 I guess that's the reason I didn't care for skin brushing, the hard bristles against my sensitive skin was just too painful. I'll have to try the softer plastic brushes and see if it makes a difference. Thank you for sharing with me. :o)

Hi! I am on a natural/ homemade/ organic products makeover at the moment :) so this was very useful. However, I have some doubts concerning hair coloring. Since I color my hair in a rather dark color, I'm afraid that both the baking soda and the lemon juice will lighten my hair. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance x
madeiranislander 1 year ago
@madeiranislander When you mix in the baking soda, make sure the water is really hot & stir/shake it really well so it's completely dissolved. This will help it rinse out well. It shouldn't effect your color though. Instead of lemon, you could use fresh limes or try 1 TBLs of ACV in 1 cup of water as a rinse. The ACV will actually lock in your hair color. Just be sure to rinse it really well and don't over do it on the ACV. You could also add essential oils to the ACV mixture for a better aroma.

Exfoliation: salt+olive oil
Cleanser: a small bit of olive/sunflower or (better still) cocnut oil...rub it in and then put a hot towel on your face to steam your face.
For washing...a bar of soap is far far better than any shower gels...there aren't as much chemicals etc. I don't really agree with washing with just water for hygiene :/
Oh and i've never had any problems with bits of lemon/baking soda in my hair...I did have the itchy scalp from the baking soda!
Those are my little tips
Xx
maevee19 1 year ago
I use about 1 tblsp baking soda, 1 tblsp honey and a cup of hot water and pour it into an old shampoo bottle (save the environment by not buying new bottles) and then top it up with water. If you use hot water there will be no problem with lumps. For conditioner I use 2 tblsp apple cider vinegar with cup water and a few drops of lavender essence (or a cinnamin stick+vanilla) and again fill the bottle with water. If i am away from home I just use approx half a lemon for conditioner.

StarFlower99654 1 year ago

EmilyMaija 1 year ago
@EmilyMaija Congrats on success with your new routine! I wash mine 2 x a week with b. soda & lemon. Some people may last a week or longer. If u needed to wash more often, I don't think it would be a problem since the ingred. are natural. A great deodorant is just a little bit of b. soda and water mixed together. Before I began my raw journey, I found this method to be better than regular deodorant. Also zinc water. It's a supplement made by Water Oz but I used it as deodorant & it worked great.

Great information and thanks for doing the experiementing and telling us the results.
I wonder if the lemon oil is a conditioner for split ends? It is good aromatherapy. nonetheless
One thing I would say is that plastics are estrogen disruptors and I would use them briefly rather than store baking soda, water or lemon juice in 'em.
researchfiend 1 year ago

Jlwattts11 1 year ago

It balances the pH of your hair after you've used baking soda.
teabee09 1 year ago
@teabee09 Actually the lemon juice works well for me, it's when I don't use it that my scalp gets dry. ACV works great though, as an alternative or instead of lemon juice. Thank you for sharing. :o)

boredtoexhileration 1 year ago
@boredtoexhileration I use a soft toothbrush and brush dry, without toothpaste. I usually do this without wetting the toothbrush first, which is supposed to help remove tarter by 60%. Once in a while I use Eco-Dent toothpowder for an extra deep clean feeling. I also floss everyday and go to the dentist for a cleaning every six months.

I tried it in the past and I seemed to have broken out quite a bit, but this was before my 811 transition :)
megantherawvegan 1 year ago

@rawsynergytv it was a disaster :(
i'd love for something like this to work for me, but after 3 days, i had the greasiest hair ever :(
joyinc30 1 year ago
@joyinc30 If you decide to try again, you may want to try adding more baking soda. This is what saved me when I was super greasy in the beginning. Also, it can take a little transition period for your body to get used to this new routine, and it is normal to be more greasy at first. I totally understand though. Having greasy hair feels yucky! You could also try a slower transition by using a SUPER gentle shampoo and no conditioner for a while and then try to switch to a no shampoo routine. KIT!
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
@rawsynergytv how much baking soda do you add?
joyinc30 1 year ago
@joyinc30 I use 1 tablespoon. If my hair is really dirty or greasy, I use a heaping tablespoon. Also, you really have to work it into your roots and scalp if they're greasy. So just rub your fingers into your scalp, just like you would with shampoo but you'll need a little extra time to work it in. You want to rub it into your hair where it's greasy too. If you use the lemon juice, be sure to dilute it really well before you put it on your scalp, otherwise it'll make your hair oily. :o)
rawsynergytv 1 year ago
Wow how amazing - I never thought you could use anything other than shampoo to wash your hair! I'm going to use this on my daughter's hair as she hates shampoo (as you can imagine). One question though, I'm allergic to lemon so wouldn't want to use this on my hair or scalp. Do you have any other non-citrus suggestions other than lemon juice? Thanks again for another great video.
alvahurley1 1 year ago
@alvahurley1 vinegar! just make sure you dilute it :) i use it all the time, and it really helps with tangles!
(i still have yet to try it with baking soda, but i think i will today :)
joyinc30 1 year ago
@alvahurley1 Hi Alva! The only other thing I can think of is using apple cider vinegar. It may smell really bad but if you dilute it and rinse your hair really well, when it dries, you shouldn't smell anything. I'm going to send you a link I just found cause I can't post it here.
And be sure with your daughter, to use much less of everything and be careful not to get lemon juice in her eyes. I know you're super careful, just need to share for the rest of the peeps reading this. :o)
