  • I wonder why we didn't get to see earth restored at the end of the american version?

  • It was the best anime ever done !!!

  • Well, at least Cap got to see Earth one last time. Peace Okita, you were awesome.

  • Beautiful ending. Thank you for posting!

  • It's been great watching the series in it's original format with the English translations. The first time I got to see Space Battleship Yamato in Japanese was in Summer 1982. It was airing on one of the Los Angeles Japanese UHF channels. And even though I did not know Japanese,we both knew the story well as we had already been exposed to Space Cruiser Yamato and Star Blazers. It's been a great opportunity here to see once again in the Japanese format with the English translations.

  • I miss being a kid.

  • Too bad that didn't use that shield against Zordar's dreadnaught.

  • @enterprise160 a very good point!

  • Now that's what I called MAXIMUM ARMOR!

  • やった嬉しいです ^_^*

  • Yuki why did you change your hair color xD

  • Okay. I just have 1 question: How did Yuki come back to life? In the version I grew up watching, she wasn't dead, she was in coma, as I recall. This said she died. It's not really a big deal, I'm just wondering is all.

Best I can guess is that the purifier actually did save her, but it was delayed, and she appeared as dead to all human senses, but really was barely alive and healing.

  • @stylesIkon Producer's novel ascribed it to a miracle. Other novels explained that the shock from Dessler Canon reactivated her cardiac movement!! Someone said Dr.Sado misjudged as he did with Captain Okita.

  • Sanada - miracle scientist, crap doctor.

  • Great anime!, thank you for uploading it!!! I looked for it for years and now I finally saw it completely. Thanks!!!

  • so it DOES have shields!

  • Thx Mate, I saw a movie made from these series somewhere in 198X. It came from Sky Channel at that time.

    Arigato (if written right)

  • I think I saw Australia to the lower left, and Japan to the center top.

  • Okita will be forever in our hearts.

  • WHHHHHHHHY???

Drat it, all ships should be covered in mirror coating. That way, lasers and phasers bounce right off!

Why do space battleship designers never think about that?

  • Now you understand why Japanese were so excited to welcome HAYABUSA back to the earth.

  • Japanese still love Yamato.

i nerver forget this great anime.

    Forever Captain Okita!

  • on September 27, 2200 the earth PARTIED IT'S ASS OFF!!!:)

  • Does the captain die the same time Yuki comes back to life? um creepy.

  • @screamwriter1 Neither was dead!! Watch "Final Yamato."

  • Sado is so incompetent...he couldn't tell if Yuki was dead or not!

  • @charlesdexter1 As Wingnutcaseman said about a year ago, always get a second opinion! *L*

  • @charlesdexter1 Remember then never to trust Dr. Sado's death certificates. You will see more of that in "Final Yamato"!

  • @Restitutus Only twice. Is that too many?

  • Sanada: I secretly developed a dimensional reflective magnetic coating. I guess it was useful.

Shima: You mean we've had an all weapon reflective countermeasure for half a seasson and we took all that beating anyway?

    Sanada: Yeah, my bad...

That along with Yuki suddenly resurrecting accounts for the most cliche episode of Yamato ever possible... But I certainly don't give a damn and I am sure is the same for almost anyone else, the ending was totally awesome!

  • @al122385 Not all-weapon, just wave motion/Dessler-guns. Sanada's screen would not help much against Domel's missiles and self-destruct bombs.

  • Sanada is like the greatest scientist ever apparently.

  • Awesome. The contrast to the US version is amazing.

  • pwned by his own gun

  • viva a argos ass willleiros

  • A providential force barrier save the ship of his destruction...

  • whoever wrote this script deserves a god damn medal for brilliance

  • @mattmanganon You mean this episode? meh.

  • deus ex machina ftw!

  • That was great! I shall have to check out the Yamato 2 series now.

  • desler cannon fail

  • Senada -san became sober for the first time in the trip when he realized that he misdiagnosed a coma for death.

  • I found it sad when the captain passed away

  • @anvil357 he survives actually (never sure how) as he goes down with the ship after firing the wave motion gun in one of the movies

  • Many thanks for uploading this anime ;-)

  • Ah, that was fantastic. I loved it. To think I checked out this anime because of I liked the theme song.

    So what's next after this?

  • TKGB2006:

Search "Yamato 2" for the second season. Then there's the English dub as well that is pretty good under ""Star Blazers Quest for Iscandar" and "Star Blazers Comet Empire." I like the Japanese versions better, though.

And there is Be Forever Yamato and Final Yamato movies.

I've been a fan for years.

  • @TKGB2006 "Farewell to Yamato"

  • Thanks for posting all these videos. I enjoyed them.

  • i love this cartoon too much , thanks for uploading

  • Sanada-san used Chekov's Gun! It's super effective!

  • Lolz. "Yeah, I saw this reflective coating on the satellite on Pluto and installed it on our ship without telling anyone. I guess it was useful."

    Massive understatement :P

  • Seriously why doesn't Desler bite it here? Why is he back in S2?

  • Because of fan reaction, I suppose. And in the original version of "Yamato 2" the ship was destroyed at the end. They replaced it with a version in which the ship survived.

  • so no one minds that there is a corpse in the bridge?... okay.. just ignore the dead girl..

  • @wikikomoto

    ...well the cool part is

    when the dude zez

    let's go someplace quiet

  • I was wondering if these are the same as the set that I see on sale on eBay for about $70 - $100 (for all 3 series and 5 movies!)

  • The Reflex gun, the S.M.I.T.E. device and the Balanasaurus were all cooler names.

Starsha welcomed the Argo deserters but suggested they pick a better place to stay.

My favorite scene in all of Star Blazers was when Wildstar prayed aloud to God for Nova to live. (Not in the Japanese version) Could somebody sight an example were something like that ever happened in a censored cartoon: American or Japanese?

  • I agree about the "Please, God, make her wake up!" But I still think the Japanese version of this scene is better--not as corny.

  • This is nothing. I found Filipino version on different anime changed the script entirely(a new script, I'd say) for no apparent good reason and the story still made sense with the images!! Of course, you can never beat the original.

  • @Hesuku Where's the Filipino version?

  • @spellbreakerko As I said, it's not "Yamato" but an anime called "Voltes V" or "Voltes 5." "Daoms," too. Some translators take too much liberty.

  • @spellbreakerko I mean "Daimos." Hope you could recall.

  • @Hesuku Oh, I recall Daimos and when it comes to mecha anime, it's one of the first to involve a "forbidden love" angle. :)

  • @spellbreakerko You mean love between enemies such as Romeo and Juliet. Yes, I found Nagahama anime have been popular in your country, which is good. Daimos was very good, like Yamato.

  • @Hesuku Sadly, Yamato had not been shown here in the Philippines. :(

  • @spellbreakerko Yeah, too bad... I think the name Yamato has been a real stumbling block to Asians. They should have named it Orion or something. Just a thought. Americans named it Argo.

  • @spellbreakerko Although of course if it's not "Yamato," it'd be impossible to recreate the deep emotion and beauty for those anime makers... I feel really sorry for the mission of real Yamato in 1945.

  • @Hesuku I agree with you there. Personally, I would want SBY to be dubbed in Filipino. Also, I was wrong about SBY not being shown in the Philippines. It was shown on cable a few years ago, but I was not able to watch that channel because it's not available.

  • I really enjoyed the original Japanese version.

    Let's defend Star Blazers:

O.K. some scenes were edited for violence'. I knew what was going on and people were dying on both sides. The mass burial scene was left in, something I have yet to see in any "grown up" movie.

The characters names were much more dramatic, Wildstar as opposed to Kodai(a fairly common name).

I loved the idea of the "Star Force" as an elite unit instead of just the Yamato's crew.

Nova in a coma instead of being dead.

  • And I liked the coma idea better, too. The whole ressurecting from the dead stuff is a little much.

  • @anniesmyth In watching the original language version for the first time, I find myself wondering if Yuki's "resurrection" is foreshadowed earlier when Capt. Okita asks the doctor about where the soul goes. Could it be that Okita's last act was to revive Yuki?

  • @DarthAverage Maybe? I read that no one in the production crew could expalin Yuki's "death." I think it was a plot hole.

  • @anniesmyth Oh, so kinda like, "Er, guys ... what did we just do?" "Aw crap!" "No sweat. We'll just have her wake up at the same time Okita dies; then his death won't be such a downer!" "Wait, dead people don't wake up!" "Um ... well, hopefully no one will notice that little detail!"

  • @anniesmyth Maybe it was simply a miralce.

  • @DarthAverage No, it's not Okita's sphere. Producer's novel ascribes it to God. Cpt. Okita just casted an age-old question before his departure facing death. Yamato became famous for having excellent scripts with deep meaning, being beyond kids' cartoons in 70's, and thankfully people picked it up.

  • The moral of the story--If Sanada pronounces you dead, get a second opinion! :)

  • My 8-year-old now reasonably wonders where the water and the salt to fill the oceans came from (pumped through a giant tube from down below?), how long it took for tropical forests to grow again from scratch, and whether the humans kept botanical gardens and zoos underground (including blue whales?).

  • when u daughter become a pettifogger?

  • @Restitutus

that was a timelapse image of the slow and steady ...evolution

tell him or her, thet I guarantie will do just fine

  • Ahhh. To see the Earth restored. I don't remember that scene in Starblazers. Sanada's reflex device on the Yamato is only effective against energy attacks? If so, what happened to it in Yamato 2? Off to start the Comet Empire.

  • The Dessler-Cannon must fire a particle beam. If it was pure energy it would travel at light-speed and they would not see it before it hit them.

Perhaps it turned out later that the device yet had severe disadvantages. Even Sanada is not perfect: He may have lost some of his confidence after he goofed at assembling the Purifier.

  • Deus ex Sanada. What happened here was quite hard for my daughter to understand. She feels sorry for Okita - more so than for Yuki when she was/seemed actually dead - and wonders who will become Sub-captain now that Kodai obviously must be promoted to Captain's rank.

  • Cpt. Okita was alive in "Final Yamato"(He'd die there again). Won't it make her happy? Yamato is a cartoon after all, but combatants die(permanently) in real wars.

  • F yeah Mr.Sanada the magician!

  • Copperfield makes trains disappear. Mr Sanada makes mirrors appear all over a friggin battlecruiser. Mr. Sanada pwnz Copperfield here XD

  • Sayonara Yamato!

  • Woot!!! they got back to earth on my birthday !!! =P

  • My late brother and I saw the US version of Yamato, in the 70s and 80s. Finally seeing it's original form, all I can say is AWESOME!!! My only regret, my younger brother not seeing Yamato in the original Japanese. Much more emotion and power in the characters. One of my favorite anime shows. Late.

  • the worst of all..IM OLD !!!!...i miss this !!!..jajajajaj

  • for your information pbanta62 the magna- flame cannon appears to be what the name implies, A FLAME!!!! so im pretty sure a reflector would not help in the slightest. and oh my gosh, i started to cry when i saw this whole episode!

  • I like this ending compare to the U.S. version. I wished that the U.S. version should have created an additional episode, so that the audience can see the earth transformed to tie into the Comet Empire Series. However, I do like the actors who did the English version of the series. They did a great job of keeping the story line almost exactly of its original Japanese version. The only thing that I would change is that the ship should have kept the Yamato name than the Argo.

  • final scene where the yamato nears earth and all turns green again, was sorely missed and so needed in u.s. version.

  • This is the best anime ever

  • Thanks for the upload. So many memories.

  • oh,the memories!!!! my heart feels nostalgic about my childhood days.

i think,we didn't need a desler to fuck the planet...but we could need a yamato(we)to save it from his destruction.

  • salute Captain Okita. (TдT)ゞ

  • Welcome to the club! Rest in peace, Concho!

  • Comment removed

  • If you mean "captain", it's "kancho."

  • Man, oh, man the death scene with Okita just ripped my heart out, and I'm a middle-aged guy, for chrissakes! Give the makers of this show credit where credit is due. Well done!

  • Thats what you get Desler, for trying to fuck up a happy return to Earth!

  • great anime. thanks for uploading.

  • I really like the Japanese version better... The American version Yuki was only in a coma, but I remember this scene in particular - Kodai walks onto the bridge with her and Shima says "she looks better"... She looks dead - how can she look better?? ugg...

  • after watching "space battleship yamato" first TV series all 26 episodes...please go to watch a second movie "farewell to space battleship yamato in the name of love"

i dont like "space battleship yamato 2" TV series due to alternated story.

  • The novel concludes with Yuki's thought. "Now our new life will begin!"

  • Producer's novel said, "The Planet Earth shone bright red as if she was crying for Yuki."(when Susumu said to deceased Yuki after seating her, "Can you see? We've come home. That's our home, Earth, Yuki!") - A flood of tears here!!

  • Correction: When Susumu said, "Yuki, can you see? It's Earth, our Earth!"

  • It took me 3 nights to watch all of it and was worth it staying until 3 AM. Goobye Angela Margaret Webber-Cisneros

  • thanks for the upload. i liked the series, and i admire it for all its firsts for it's time. i believe the note at the end might be because they were going to make more episodes about the return journey but they were on a deadline and budget so they ended it right away. and i don't think dessler would ever have to 'catch up.' gamilusian ships should be able to travel dozens of times faster than the yamato, as shown in the episodes about Balan

  • u know wht else is wrong? dressler runs because he says they can't survive in human air and they need space suits, not only are they wearing what looks like space suits, but the gamilus pilot they captured in an earlier episode was able to survive on yamato half naked. that's not "it's just a cartoon" anymore, it's a contradiction

  • That is a major plot hole. I could only rationalize it by concluding the Gamilusians are composed of some sub-species adapted to different environments (like Balan, Bemara, Jupiter's floating island, etc) having lived there for several years as colonists with the majority of the Gamilusian population adapted to the environment of homeworld. The captured pilot was probably not born or raised on Gamilus itself but one of the more earthlike colonies. That's as close as I can figure it out.

  • It does not explain, however, why Dessler later managed to breathe the air of Gatlantis unharmed and why Kodai was from Yamato 2 on able to face him without either wearing a space-suite...

  • It's Yamato; masks and space-suits do not set the mood, Restitutus.

  • Mind you, they rarely do in "Star Trek"... :-)

  • These are not space suits. They are fighter suits. If they HAD space suits, why would they flood the Yamato with their own atmosphere at all?

  • Now I kinda got concerned whether average Gamilusians could really have immigrated to Planet Earth after all.

  • After the meteor-bombing, of course they could.

  • i was crying till about 6:10 and then yuki wakes up!!! good grace! i'm goona go mad changing feelings like this...thanks a lot...

  • Was the text at the end supposed to insinuate that Deslock SHOULD have reassembled his fleet or ambushed the Argo? I always felt that the defeated and deranged Deslock finally CAUGHT UP to the Argo. Regardless, This IS the deepest and most moving episode. Next to season 2 ep25 this is my favorite.

Thanks for the uncut post !!

  • Nice. Apart from a few choice scenes Star Blazers is still a good translation (as far as I'm concerned). Thanks Sute7988! X)

  • A Great Series! I'm very happy to see it all the way to the end! Thank You Very Much for all the work you put into this!

  • Great!!!, when I was kid I only saw the movie...so I was expecting the same end...It´s different!, Was a surprise for me!!, thank you very much, I got in here looking for the movie, but instead I found this treasure, thanks again!!!

  • I always thought Sanada's "energy shield" was a little too "convenient".

It was never used again in any other Yamato episode or film.

But a great episode all the same.

  • me too. it's not too farfetched though, since the mirrors were part of the weapon on pluto. the thing that's just lame is how the beam didn't disperse in different directions and went directly back to the dessler cannon. they might've just wanted a way to quickly finish the episode though, the note said they were on a rushed schedule to finish the series

  • What kind of galled me is why that "shield" was used only ONCE and wasn't deployed on the new ships of Earth's Defense force. They might have had better luck against the Comet Empire's magna-flame cannon (unless that was a completely different technology).

  • No, the Yamato makers were right this time. If Sanada's mirror is phase-conjugated it will reflect a laser beam exactly to where it came from - right back into the crystal in fact - and in the process amplify it. Dessler was blasted by twice his own force! This effect is known as Stimulated Brillouin Dispersion and has been known since the 60s.

  • yes however it only works on a flat surface.

in this case the yamato is curved sharp angled...etc

  • Thanks for uploading! I love the series.

  • Poor Yuki... =(
