I've loved Mose from the first time I heard him - especially his songs and his singing style. Simple, but certainly not simple-minded. The soul of the man shines through his music. Wish there were more like him around. waylandn
You know, it can't get much better than this. And silly little me who thought his fifties and sixties period was the best. I should have known better! I'm almost in tears of joy and respect of him and his music by watching this. It's just amazing. What a guy!!
Seen him four times: twice in Monterey, and twice in Santa Cruz, in the last twenty years. Though he comes to the Monterey Bay Area every year, he has not been invited to the Monterey Jazz Festival, or Blues Fest, which is criminal! Tom Waits also has never been invited either, from what I know. Both need to be at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and their board better get over their snob attitudes! Jazz just isn't Dizzy, and he's been dead for awhile, or Brubeck!
Voice is not that great but the ability in his musicianship is amazing and truly fantastic. When a musician is that good the voice only plays a small part in the songs.
I don't mean any offense, but I couldn't disagree more. Mose has a unique style and THAT is something to value. Interestingly, check out Nellie McKay "The Dog Song" and see if she doesn't remind you of Mose
Not quite Canadian, Mose was born in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi and went to college at the University of Mississippi and Louisiana State University. But you got the blue-eyed part right :-)
Lucky enough to have had a B&B with him at one of his gigs at the old AQ, when it was across the river. I like the new one better.

Mose Allison and Tom Waits once shared a bill...early seventies, I believe.

Saw this man in concert 10 years ago. Never forget it. A great musician, wonderful songwriter and a true gentleman. Thanks for posting.
