i m a compound shooter and i tried thumb shooting with my mongolian bow, i like it very much only my thumb is hurting cos the string keep hitting the top of my thumb , i want to know if its normal reaction cos i m not use to or my technique is not yet good? thank you
i think is a both :) ! i see also there is a different type of thumb rings , some ottoman's bronz rings you put them just on the top of the thumb , i see you put it on the lower part of your thumb, is there any difference ? thank you
Could you tell me what the difference is regarding a turkish thumb ring compared to others? I have a scythian bow, which is similar to the turkish, and I would like to know the best type of ring and technique to use.
Sorry for not having replied. The best place to ask this question would be the Atarn forum. We tend to get specialised in everything Turkish. I would guess that there are only morphological differences, the mechanics of ring shooting should not change...
Sorry the bow in this video is actually a composite... but still not older than 5 years... Dont know how long it took Csaba Grozer to build it though...
The trick is, not to use the ring as some sort of string pulling tool. The ring is only there to protect your thumb. You actually push the string away from the riser by applying pressure to it with your thumb, you do not pull with it. Thats the fundamental difference between the two techniques (three fingers and thumb release). Send a pm if you have more questions.
That's not their weight, he means the pull-strength... Pull-strength is a measure of how much power there is in a bow shot. Longbows are excellent examples of overpowered bows, especially during Medieval times, when English bows could have pull strengths of 150-200lbs.
Last year, in the "speed shooting" part of Gödeny Kupa (Hungary) I shot 6 arrows under 20 sec (guess 16 secs) by taking each arrow from the quiver one by one.
If your nock are not too tight, if the arrows are fletched with 4 feathers and especially if you hold the spare arrows in the draw hand you could reload faster.
Of course accuracy matters too. Such techniques must've been used in very close distances, probably 15 m max.
First time when I was looking on youtube, no thumbringer was there. Then I have seen this turkish guys and I like them, so I am glade to see them again on youtube.

Hi,
This is either due to your technique or due to the shape of your thumbring. A video of yourself shooting would help at making a better judgement.

We bought them from Grozer, however one of our members has recently started to build fiberglass replicas.

Awesome!!!
kravitshalom747 2 years ago
why do you have the arrow on the right side of the bow
DiVeronica 2 years ago
In order to have a better clearance. The arrow leaves the bow with minimum, if not none at all contact when on the right.
adyona 2 years ago
interesting
