  • now we have 3 Gavin! Horay! triple amount of videos :3

  • 3:54.. you have the lens cover.

    3:58.. you don't.

    PHOTOSHOP OR MULTIPLE TRIES?

  • That i call funtacia

  • WTF'ed

  • you've cut your legs on your photo where you stand behind that couch... details...

  • @ortodox989 when using masks you can cut it out or leave in the photo. Depends on his taste and style, he could easily bring the foot back choosing the whit color and bushing it back in.

  • Thanks made an pic picture!

    LIKE

  • the 3rd guy doesn't have feet, but still nice video, really instructive, thanks!

  • Very NICE!!

  • i love your video, super helpful and fun

  • Thank you sooooooo much for sharing your skills

  • NICE WORK ... thanks for sharing

  • Maybe it'd been easier to start from the back to the front, and just layer mask the guy on the back

  • This is my favourite video of yours, such a great idea!!!!

  • poses for picture... lens cap on... picture.. no lens cap.. hes magic..

  • very informative and great demonstration, i love it, two thumbs-up ^_^

  • Hellew (Hello)

  • did anyone notice that 3:53 there`s a strap over his arm, but in the picture, the strap was gone. haha

  • 0:13 - Hayilohw I'm ...

  • at first i was like... he split the video and they are both him. And then the third guy appeared and now I am mindfucked... O.O

  • Congratulations from Argentina!! very usefull!! Thank you Gavin!

  • Hi Gavin i am more interested on how you edit the video..

  • Just love your videos!

  • Hey gavin just want to ask a question. I had Canon 60D and I am wondering why most of photographer like nikon than canon what is the advantage of this to canon? I know you had 5D markII and can you suggest a good super wide angle glass? Thanks

  • @mctoddjoj How about 11-16mm tokina?

    I love it so much!

but of course you must ask yourself, how wide is your wide?

to some, 17mm is wide, but to the other, 8 mm is "the" wide.

  • @MrAfif91 Thanks man..

  • nice! thanks for sharing : )

  • 3:55 Lens cap on.....

    3:58 Lens cap off....

    :P

  • like !

    from Viet Nam

  • Is this pissible with CS3?

  • @manx1127 Yes it is. I only have CS3 and I have accomplished a very similar project.

  • IKEA - used to have the same sofa

  • Cool thanks for making..

  • N i i i i i i c e !

    Thanks for sharing .

  • I really love 2 see ur video............. with respect

  • hehe... you have a funny voise... "blimey, three of me"

  • You are a fantastic photographer - and a wonderful teacher, as well! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion with us.

  • Nice video dude! :)

  • Thnank for this video.

I think I'm going to try such a thing tomorrow.

But then me, sitting down in the park, but the idea is pretty much the same :D

  • forever alone

  • @delonge5000 lol My words

  • Thank you so much I just subscribed to your ch good work

  • jajajajaja funy music you used

  • that was nice

  • 3:55 you shoot a photo with lens cap or not ?:D

  • @gu4rez Yes, that's his mistake :)

  • can u tell us how did u make the video too? pleaaaaaazzz !!

  • @gajetjoe The same thing dude, just put your camera on a tripod, film yourself doing 3 different things, and then edit the scenes together so it becomes one scene.

  • @Richydudeman but with with program? i have adobe premiere :)

  • what lens do u use ??? 18-200mm lens?

  • @gajetjoe 24-105 f4. 18-200 is not very good

  • @skatebaker321 ahh ok :) , but i use nikon , i think it differs caz i read a review and said it was exelent :) thank u

  • @gajetjoe yeah the 18-200's aperture is crap. a 24-105 is a pro lens. i shoot nikon too. no regrets

  • @skatebaker321 hehe same same here , not even a single one , and always upgrading it with new accessories and gadgets !!! but the only crap in 18-200mm is its apreture ??? becaz if so i dont mind , because i heard iits super fast in focusing and delivers good qualities :)

  • @gajetjoe definately not super fast focusing, okay quality, a lot of distortion. if you want to only use one lens thats its only use.

  • @Massygo the video version is done using adobe after effects or premiere. ( I believe)

  • Really really good, but you forgot to grab your feet and shadow under the sofa in the last photo! You were floating!

  • hi

  • Hi Mate

Loving ur vids......can this be done outside, lets say on a park bench but without flashes

  • @inahg2 I'm just doing that now, on an old worn out, wooden bench. I've taken 3 images of myself with black and white clothing so that when I use black and white on my photos it's more effective, and so far it looks like a bench outdoors is working out...

  • Clear and easy,perfect.

I just added you on flickr, your work is awesome.

  • very nice man....

  • I noticed you still had the lens cap on when you were behind the sofa!

  • Brilliant!! Just pulled off an awesome pic.

  • Brilliant!!

  • Works perfect overhere too.

But...how to create this video version?

  • why do all pro photographers have an british accent??? xD

  • Love it! I'm actually occupating the living room and forcing my family to be my models soon :) I don't have Photoshop, a fancy studio nor a great camera, but thanks for the inspiration! My gosh, I'm so exited!

  • This is absolutely brilliant :)

  • You make all this look soo easy! Brilliant!

  • where is the photoshop tutorial to remove the lens hood from the camera ? :)

  • Man, you're really amazing photographer, I love your videos...

  • superb....thanks!!

  • Gavin your videos have helped me out a ton! Just wanted to let u know! thanks!

  • WOW you are amazing, the way you show us is so straight forward and easy. Thanks alot for the tutorial.

  • How do i insert two photo???omg im struggling with this but i juz wanna do it!

  • great picture... i did a few of these just a few minutes ago... without a flash and without a studio... just one sofa and two of me sitting on it.

  • Comment removed

  • the person with the camera legs are missing!!?

  • @corcoranjohnny The legs weren't in the original photograph either...

  • @corcoranjohnny retarded bastard american

  • @corcoranjohnny Thats because he's sitting on his knees on the sofa or something like that behind the others.

  • lens cap on last picture fail

  • final cut FAIL

  • I did a few of these a couple of days ago. Just one flash bounced off the ceiling was enough :)

  • Gavin, this is a great tutorial!

I'm going to try this with my photo group on one of the next studio shoots.

Let's see what happens there... :o)

Special thanks for the PS tut. This helps a lot to arrange the final picture, especially your secret hints regarding the selection optimization.

Maybe one thing is missing: What if I have to realign the pictures... ;o)

  • thanks for this great tutorial

  • nice video but... there's a lil mistake, the 3rd Gavin the one with the camera has no shadow down the sofa. but yeaaah good work

  • Hello sir, i just started photography. is it possible for me to do the same thing using aparture 3 ??

  • @marfianik:

I don't know Aperture, but the photoshop part is quite straight ahead. With a little google-work and trial&error you are going to get this with GIMP easily (which is quite charming as it is freeware)

Menu titles will be different, but the workflow is quite the same.

The more important thing is not to move the cam during shots. Otherwise you will have to realign them which can be hard...

  • Loved! Loved! Loved!!!

How far away were you/(couch)... from where the camera & lighting was setting at?

  • You're almost a magician. Thanks.

  • you

  • funny my brother just asked ifi could do something like that hahah but with his car

  • It would be so much easier if you put in the deep of the z-coordinate order.

Like begin from the far to near object.

  • witch Photoshop program are you using?

  • @herrjonna2007 He said Cs4 in the video

  • i really like this video, however you forgot about your shadow underneath the sofa! No worries, still looks great

  • thankyou, is that a white plastic role under the couch?

  • Thank you for this tutoriel, its very well explain.

  • thanks for sharing! check out my image, i multiplied myself 5 times :D flickr.com/photos/changcj/4826728146/

  • يعطيك العافيه يا الحبيب

  • your tutorials are the best Gavin!!!!!!!!!

  • Gavin you're SUPER awesome!

  • hey nice video! just want to ask if which would be a better off camera flash for outdoor photograpy? would the 430 exII be enough especially with surpassing the sun or 580 exII would still be the better one? Thanks in advance!

  • hey nice one..i visited your site ..hhmmmm thinkin of getting a mini studio set ..

  • Thanks! for the tutorial amazing!

  • I'd like to know how you made the video

  • Comment removed

  • Impressive... I thnk you missed the shadow for the portrait with the book. If you have added that, that would have added a lot.. Otherwise Amazing.. :)

  • i am very impressed by your vids but could you please give a little more detail as to what settings you have for the speedlites.. focal length and particularly power of background and key light

  • @PhotoGavin you forgot to include the photo with the camera's shadow under the couch! haha.

  • love this tutorial..easiest one i;ve seen here.. thanks for sharing,

  • Does this type if portrait have a name?

  • You're the man Gavin ;)) nice one.

  • omg i loooove you! haha

  • Fantatstic,, however how do you create a layer mask in elements 8 ?

    Your tutorials are brilliant.

  • Can you show more examples on how to do this, maybe with a more colorful background like outside. Or like Photographer Dereck Blank's alter ego pics of celebrities. how do he do it. Like how do you do it if your hand was on your shoulder?

  • Great Stuff ! Always something new to learn.....

  • Load of thanks

  • It's a lot of fun watching your tutorials. Thank you.

  • ur a champ!

  • I wonder, what happens if you use stack image?

  • Why don't you udr an small wireless remote while taking the photo so you don't have the delay of 10 seconds?

  • ur great! but u forgot about ur feet whiich is fine but i thought it was funny :-)

  • Thanks a lot !

  • my silly question is this : when i copy paste another picture into my main picture, it appears very small..how i will make it work the way i want? (appearing in same size as the original)

    thank you

  • Simple and quite easy to do for people starting out with the off-flash setups :)

    Thanks a lot!

  • Great Video for a newbie like me!! Thank you..Football season is starting for my son and I would love to make some prints of him!!

  • wonderful!

  • awesome video...is that the flash though under the sofa that you can see a bit of and the shadow? other than that super sweeet!

  • how many feet u can set for the first by using autofocus, then after u metering u just set manual focus. I think for the third layer maybe u can merge down

  • Good tutorial :) Just a problem I noticed... you never put your feet in the picture of you with the camera behind the sofa, so you looked like you were floating ;) But excellent video :)

  • Note, the 3rd you behind the sofa has no legs or feet left.

  • Which camera did you use to take the pictures?

  • excellent

I want to run two flashes like Gavin did and planned on purchasing a 580 anyway as my main flash... What do you think? Was he just trying to get me to pay more money? Do you think the 430 will perform well I'm a newb any advice will help...thanks:)

Many thanks and one more time awesome work!

  • Pocket wizards? Gavin's gone upmarket from the photix things :-)

  • question, I'm doing this with many pictures (up to ten). If I forget something on the first picture, is there a way to make a hole in the first of the ten? My problem is that I keep forgetting a shoe or a hat from time to time.

  • It looks like the you reading the magazine is peeking at what you're doing on the laptop and the other one is taking a picture

  • Cool video!! =)

  • The third guy doesn't have any legs, he can't just be floating behind the sofa!?

    Anyway, love your videos, thanks!
