If anyone is in Scotland he's playing at the Torphichen Inn, in Torphichen (surprisingly) on Thurs 24th Nov 2011. Tickets £10. See rockrythmrevival website for details.
This song reminds me a bit of american alternative country/rock band The Jayhawks (obviously long before their time.) Yeah nice song. I'm a big Rafferty fan but haven't got round to checking out Mr Noakes stuff yet. That definately sounds like Gerry accompanying him on backing vocals. Their voices were well suited, shame Noakes didn't stay on in Stealers Wheel after 1971.
Ah the magic of the internet- Just think of an obscure tune from years ago that you liked, lurking in a dusty corner of your memory and voila.... someone somewhere has put it on youtube. Bless you.
Rab, is there any chance you can issue Red Pump Special on CD? I've loved it for years, but I've only got access to the battered old copy on LP that my dad bought for 75p years ago!
I still have this single on 45rpm but I can't play it anymore. I wore it out it's been played so many times. The late great Gerry Rafferty recorded it also and it's on his album Over My Head. It's also here on Youtube.
I think Rafferty co-wrote this song? Anyway its sad to read of his situation. I also have this single, and both sides are wonderful songs, magical video too, thanks!
Gerry Rafferty about to die in The Royal Bournemouth hospital urgent all fans please help we need for the doctors to turn his life support macchines back on as he has a chance to live still. Please all fans help!!! Put pressure on the hospital! Please we need help!!! Go on Facebook, Twitter, anything to spread the word. Time is running out!!!!!
Always have loved this single. Bought it in the seventies; still sounds just as great today....love it to bits. Thanks for sharing as I 'aint heard it for years. Wonder where my single is now? Ahhh well. I guess that's what's so great about You Tube!
great video and song, i actually bought this single it was off the album red pump special on warner brothers if my memory is correct, the b-side i thought was better (if thats possible) it was called wrong joke again ,i have searched for this track for years if you have it please, please post it.
Heyyy! I haven't heard this since 1974!! Heyy Leigh who used to live in Streatham and who is the only person I ever knew who bought this song....if you get here...get in touch..T.F...xxx
Thanks for this poster. For some reason I got up this morning singing this. I looked for it on You Tube a saw that you only put it on five weeks ago. Before that I would have been disappointed. You are quite right. Gerry Rafferty is lending his backing vocals to this song. In fact the other half of Steelers Wheel, Joe Egan, is there too. He, Rafferty and Noakes wrote the song, I believe.
Rab was on BBC Scotland's Hogmanay show along with Emma Pollock doing a great tribute take on Gerry's hit Get It Right Next Time.
