  • 3rd rock from the sun :)

  • even a small project like my 1970 IH cub cadet 124 that im doing is allot of work. you would be surprised how many hours i have into it. i love those little old garden tractors, they are made so much better than the junk that is mass produced today. i went throught the same process on my little tractor. strip down to bare frame, sandblast heavy rust, hand sand to remove sandblasting roughness, prime, paint, wet sand, paint again, wet sand, final coat, its allot of work i cant imagine a car.

  • Jimmy go over your settings on the gun

  • what kind of Compressor did you use to hook the HVLP gun to??

  • Grate job man.

  • Awesome work guy! This is how videos should be!

  • Unbelievably informative. Make sure you keep us up to date with your work because it hard to find informative interesting videos hosted by someone who grabs your attention for the duration of the video.

  • I mopped the floor, let it dry, used the vacuum, then put down heavy mil plastic from the home improvement store on the floor to keep dust down. I cleaned the tires with a damp rag as I gradually moved the car into the garage and unto the plastic.

I also always used the wet sanding method with auto sanding including the 1200 paper. I dip the paper in a bucket of water from time to time and that keeps the paper clean.

    Good video, thanks!

Hey, do we not get to see the finished product?

  • You had me at the Holiday Inn Express comment. I think I'll watch the rest of your videos now :D

  • Kudos on doing it yourself - car guys are usually scared of electrical, transmissions, and paint. :) The one thing I thought I'd note (for other newbies) is your technique with the gun - you should let up on the trigger at the end of the pass. If you keep the trigger fully pulled at the end, you end up with a thicker application of paint in the place where you stop moving one direction and swing back to the other, since your hand sort of hangs there while you switch direction. :)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! Both of your vids on auto paint have been very informative. Have you posted a video of the finished product? Would love to see how it turned out. Also, you mention a you tuber with a mullet that was a "treasure trove" of information. I haven't been able to find him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • grasias very much for the video

  • Great info thanks. Watched both vids. How did it turn out

  • best video on youtube am fed up of watching those pros showing off..this is what everyone want to do!!thanks!

  • wetting down the floor - I thought that was a must but the gents at the Autobody Store forum said not to do so - urethanes would react negatively to a damp environment - apparently it is a technique that was time proven but with the acrylic type paints of yesterday year.

  • F.Y.I. Next time water down your floor so you dont get dust flying around your fresh paint .we all know dust is air born so that water on your floor keeps it from flying around your not in a spray booth so now you know..good job

  • I SHOOT MY PAINTS AT 37 PSI

  • hey great work, i am doing the same but to 5.0 mustang what pressure did you run your gun at when you painted base?

  • iso based paints cant be filtered with a regular respirator. you need oxygen feed respirator

  • To keep your yellows from looking greenish. Spray a white sealer or base it white first then spray your yellow. Just a tip if anyone was wondering or didnt know.

  • thanks very much for this,,,now i know why my 74 victor allways looked bright bright green esp under tube lighting at the petrol station,,

  • @robertybob2006 Never compare your work under "Tube " lights florecents are yellow in nature and will give you a yellowish tint to your color always use natural light...like sun or buy natural light bulbs...

  • Any recent videos going to be posted!? Im interested to see how the car looks now!

  • 10/10 for giving it a go, wish I could have been there to help. Great job

  • Great work

  • Is there a recent vid of the whole car painted yet?

  • i just got a 2002 and im painting it but i took everything off of the car then im still in the prosess of painting!

  • Golf yellow. Nice. I have a black tii but that yellow is my fav on the 02s.

  • Hey Jimmyjamesee I want to let you know that you did an awesome job of explaining the techniques. Most informative video on the painting and prep process I have seen so far on youtube. I like the way you think bud, I'm a subscriber now. God bless!

  • why dont you paint that jacked-up window seal behind ya there, bro!?

  • Ha ha

"if i can do it u can do it"

    i like ur advise.

  • u gotta wet sand any of those high-grit papers

otherwise it gets clogged with paint

    without water,

u just rub paint over the surface, u dont sand

  • omg hes said the guy off youtube with the hair lolololololololololololololo

  • The work your doing on that BMW 2002 is awe inspiring! its one of my all time fav cars. for an amatuer you show a great deal of knowledge and careful deliberation, which is only matched by your attention and car for such a machine. Keep up the good work! Look forward to some more tips. Dave, UK

  • Good work! :)

  • you should be Wet sanding soap and water with the 2000 grit. did you miss that video???

  • Hey nice work for an amateur! When can we see the rest of the project?

  • I hope that when you are spraying your base coat you are not trying to cover the surface in one coat. You should be spraying 3-4 medium coats of your base. And then with the clear you should apply 2 even medium coats(depending on the catalyst you use)

  • good job man. very good work for a first timer hope the rest f the car comes out just as good for ya!

  • I tried painting my car in my garage, over 4 times, and I could never solve the dust problem, or the fish eye problem. I gave up after 4 years. lol

  • wet the floor bro and use silicone drops.give her a quick scotchy and another bash.

  • I give you a lot of credit for taking this on yourself.. I just finished my sons 73 challenger with the t/a stripes.. depending on how much orange peel you have.. I would always start at 1200 end with 2000.. the flatter you lay the clear, the less color sanding you will be doing.. you can get a air grinder, and buy a fitting for it to fit a 4inch buffing wheel onto it, to get into those tight area's.. you'll need to becareful with the speed of it though..

  • can you tell me what kind (brand) of clear coat did you use and where did you get it?

I find getting the clear coat to go on smooth with no holes to be the hardest part?

  • Great video, nice work. This weekend I will be collecting a 75 '02 Tii Lux. Its striped back to the body shell and will need a ton of work, but I can't wait to get started! Good luck when spraying the rest of the car.

  • Thanks for posting this up.

Hopefully my project comes out as good as yours.

    Good luck!

  • please check my video. hopefully it will show up later today, this would be after the colorsanding.. I am interested in following you updates..
