  • Honestly, Neil Peart and Tom hanks could be brothers

  • Fantastic

  • Neil is the best in my opinion,he must lose 15 pds doing the drums to xanadu.Well done neil, well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well done lads. Very nice.

  • Neil has a real rich speaking voice too. He could be a DJ.

  • @themoroniccow Can you tell I've never been near one? I'd imagine with nothing lasting forever, they got to give some time.

  • Has he ever stuck a stick through a drum in a performance?

  • We're not worthy..........................I'd love to sit with Neil and converse among the wise.. Ya'll Rush fans will get it... haaaaaaa

  • there will never be another drummer like the MASTER would give my left nut to study under him

  • I gladly signed the petition. Neil is NOT "one of the best drummers in the world" though, Neil Peart IS the BEST drummer in the world. He's the master.

  • Rick's got a good sense of rhythm.

  • Also, of course Neil wouldn't compare himself to Buddy; he is one of the man's great heroes/influences. No one every compares himself to his heroes. You just don't do it. No matter how good you've gotten, your heroes are always "better", you know what I mean?

Peart has etched his own corner of the drumming universe and continues to be a craftsman of the highest standard. He doesn't get lazy with his musicianship and always pushes himself to perform to his absolute best.

    Much respect.

  • Great segment for Neil. Peart is always a class act and is one of drumming's bright stars.

I never understood why some believe Jazz drumming to be the high water mark for all players. Neil's mastery of his craft is on an equal level to anyone else's, regardless of style and/or genre.

Peart also composes, arguably, the greatest rock drum solos/song parts of all time (not to mention lyrics). I realize this is subjective, as well.

  • Rick on a Vespa is so hilarious, yet so fitting.

  • so after sc onto nola eh

    /watch?v=yy2g3B9mj0o

    stop for a sec ffs

  • sorry barb 1758, with that last comment about great drummers ,I still say Neil is ONE of the best drummers ever and that 's my own choice

  • I love how when they were drumming Tom Sawyer together halfway through Neil's drumset starts rotating... lol

  • hEY COCHESE GET THAT F.CK..G HEARING OF YOURS LOOKED AT.DUMB ASS!!!

  • @cochese90 Besides Buddy rich and Gene Krupa I don't think there are....and if you say Travis Barker you will disappoint me.

  • Those is fightin words

  • There are a few rock drummers who are comparable to Neil, some better in some aspects but not others. There are quite a few jazz drummers who can blow Neil away. Neil is still great, but people who defend him as the best in the world only show how ignorant they are about the great drummers in the world.

  • Comment removed

  • my favourite part is the fact that he actually is a good sport about the interview

  • You obviously have no idea how ignorant you sound! No disrespect but lets do this,

1 forget he's the drummer for Rush, 2 Pay attention to his peer's opinion, 3 Understand that HE CANNOT BE CLUMPED TOGETHER WITH ANY OTHER GROUP OF MUSICIANS REGARDLESS OF THE INSTRUMENT, And finally 4, of the handfull of players that have redefined, raised the bar, became the example that all others MUST BE judged by, you will find that Neil Pearts influence stands with the likes of Hendrix, & Jamerson, Wake UP!

  • Holy Crap! A drum lesson with Neil Peart?!? I would have wet myself!

Also, why is this interviewer such a dweeb? I know it would be hard to act normally around such greatness, but at least try!

  • @BigSkippy1263 Rick Mercer is a comedian. He's supposed to be a dweeb. It's part of his humour. He's hugely popular in Canada.

  • @islandjoanne Ohhhhhh, okay! Thanks! Now I understand why I didn't get his humor: It's Canadian humor!!!

Ok. Don't get up. I'll let myself oot.

  • "The greatest drummer ever"

  • rock solid class act

  • i would trade my left nut to play with neil

  • He does not claim to be the Worlds Greatest Drummer. However, many drummers, old and new, have labeled him as such. People do not earn titles (for the most part) because they "CLAIM" it, people earn titles because OTHERS have given them it, and many people, magazines, polls, etc, have given him this title. Neil said he could never be like Buddy Rich (Easily considered one of the BEST ever drummers), but there are tons of people that believe differently.

  • too bad there is no possible way to rate a drummer, talent is relative, he is a intelligent and great lyricist and the way he plays drums is completely his. comparing drummers is like comparing apples and oranges

  • Best in the world or not, he is up there with the best - his musical peers acknowledge that, which is the end of the arguement, as far as I am concerned. And we Rush fans know why we love them so much, so why waste time and energy trying to change other peoples opinion of them? It's their loss!

  • HE FINALLY SAID HIS LAST NAME RIGHT!

    It's Peart not Pert!

  • id kill to be that host...

  • @thegermanchannel212 but you can't.

  • THEE WORLD'S GREATEST DRUMMER INDEED ! ! !

    SIR NEIL PEART ! ! !

  • You can't judge an artist!!!! What he/she creates is unique and perfect no matter how you look at it!!!! Everyone has a different sense of perception for example not everyone can think Neil is the BEST drummer! But without judgment he IS the best drummer! He definitely should be appreciated for what he does!

  • best drummer period listen to the cheeto guy he knows lol

  • that birth control joke was pretty funny haha

  • What a nice guy he is.

  • the best

  • @Windegowally

Proof that you can't write asinine things on a Rush video without getting your ass ripped by the Rush fans... it happens every time

  • Want to get a second Rush? Get 42 lead guitarists. Get 82 Bassists. Get 102 Rhythm guitarists. Get 900 Drummers. Get 60 Keyboardists. Get 80 Synthesizerists. And there you have it, A second Rush. Just a little more complicated.

  • @LivingInTheLimeligh7

... and here I thought they were "three in one & three in all"

  • You cannot define who's the best drummer in the world because there's so many drummers out there with different styles....For example, Dave Lombardo from Slayer is one hell of a drummer and so does Neil Peart but they're no playing the same kind of music at all!

  • @domdom111111 I Love your comment!

  • @Krinisty Thank you!

  • @domdom111111 you're welcome Dom : )

  • Peart is such a class act.

  • 3 ppl suck at drumming

  • of course hes not gonna say hes the worlds best drummer hes not cocky only assholes like to claim they're the best at w/e it is they do in alot of ppls oppinions he is the best tho

  • he's my idol

  • i'd like a drum lesson with neil peart:)

  • jeez :O im actually impressed by rick not neil cuz i watched this video with very low expecations for rick but wow he's a natural :O

  • my friend says pert i told him it is peeart we kept fighting but i won

  • As far as "The greatest drummer ever"? I don't think so. There are many that are much better than him. (He will even admit to that.) He might be up there as one the top rock drummers of all time or one of the most influential drummers of all time. I would definitely put him up there as just a great human being who's music, lyrics and human spirit have touched so many lives.

  • @cochese95 bam. there it is. someone who got it right. I love Neil Peart, I've read his books, I love Rush and I respect him so much. But if you look into the jazz fusion/latin jazz world, maybe prog metal there's drummers there that would blast people's faces off with talent. (I couldn't think of a great way to say they're amazing)

  • @cochese95 nicely put........aren't comparisons stupid?

  • @cochese95 If you say Travis Barker is better than Neil Peart, I will strangle you. lol

  • LMAO!!! Travis....who? There is nobody else....not even close.

  • @Magnimammen thank you!

  • LMAO!! Nobody gives a rats ass what you think! There isn't a drummer alive that hasn't hands down acknowledge that Niel is the best there is. PERIOD. Nobody (NO ONE) even posts a distant second place to him! ROFL, you're an idiot, or actually, a troll. I'm actually the fool for responding to this because what you said is so assinine that you can't possibly be serious. If you are....you're a moron that knows ABSOLUTELY nothing about musicians. he is the epitomy. FACT!

  • @cochese95 What about Mike Pertoni (Spelt wrong) that guy from dream theatre. In case you haven't noticed, his drumset has a gong XD

  • Comment removed

  • Outstanding. :)

Rick Mercer not only is a funny man...he can keep a beat!

    Neil Peart is drumming royalty.

  • Ohhhhhh triple loved this vid!!! Neil is sheer magic!

  • What a treat to find this rare and unique interview. Thank you!

  • IS that actually how you pronounce his last name, I always just pronounced as pert.

  • @wwerulestna - pronouncment is "peer-t".

  • Peart is THE MAN.

  • @gitchigoomi I disagree, your right he's not the worlds greatest drummer (Buddy Rich was and Neil will agree). But he (Neil) is very , very good! my favorite is or was Mitch Mitchell.

  • @stuka52 He is very good....absolutely. But lots of drummers are. His fans, however, think he is the greatest drummer who has ever lived, and that cliche has worked its way into popular culture and mythology. I just don't get it. I don't know how it happened. But I have to hand it to their marketers and managers. It would be the same if millions of people were adamantly convinced that Jessica Simpson is the greatest female vocalist of all time. Quite a marketing achievement.

  • @gitchigoomi I agree that its disputeable whether Neil Peart is the "greatest drummer". But on the "marketing" thing...NO! If anything, Rush's management/record company has never marketed them well at all. They don't always pick the catchiest or most marketable songs to release to radio and up until recently ,Rush declined many opportunities to become more "mainstream", so your comments about "marketers and managers" is way off.

  • @spiralarray1969 No, what I mean is the way they have marketed them, especially Peart, as uber-musicians. Or maybe the fans generated this on their own. Either way, it's a total head scratcher to me, especially as it pertains to Peart. In fact, I thought the guitarist was far more talented with his instrument than Peart is with his.

  • @gitchigoomi big difference is ALOT of drummers consider the the best too.

  • @gitchigoomi Whether or not he's the greatest drummer in the world is a matter of opinion, and people can debate till the cows come home. But I, as a drummer, admire him immensely. He is FAR from a marketing creation (Rush being one of the most un-mainstream, un-marketed major bands in rock music). And the concert you attended is unlike every Rush concert I've ever been to or heard of, where the show was great, people stayed through it, and the energy was high.

  • @gitchigoomi You're an idiot! I'm sure people bought tickets for Rush...not knowing who they were, and just were walking out early and AVOIDING the show they PAID FOR...but DIDN'T want to attend. And I bet you AREN'T a "non-drummer," right? You're so awesome at the drums, yet YOU think Neil Peart/Rush was "average," "boring," and "they sucked." DID YOU NOT KNOW WHO YOU WERE GOING TO SEE??? Or are you just an IDIOT who bought tickets for a band you DON'T like? STFU!!!! IDIOT!!!!!

  • @shoeflor You have a lot of anger and civility issues. I'm guessing you are a liberal Obama supporter. Be honest.....you are, aren't you?

  • @gitchigoomi Just wanted to post and tell you after 4 months your comment still makes you look stupid.

  • @Utubebmu Your obsession with it makes you look insane.

  • 2 people gave this a thumbs down, they must be real winners.

    Neil Peart= best drummer alive.

  • who would dislike something like this!?!?! two great canadian boys!!!

  • Neil Peart is hands down without a question theeee best drummer in the world.

  • gold plated drums! that's alot of bling!!

  • Neil Peart is so awesome!!!!

  • The funny thing about this video is that Mercer is not that short compared to Neil Peart. I met Mercer once and I was surprised to see that he is much shorter than I am, and I'm under 5'9". Pearts about 6'4", Mercer must have been on stilts because he is easily less than 5'7". Considering that Peart must have been wearing motorcycle boots, so he had a further height advantage of 1.5" to 2.0", Mercer must have been using 5" lifts. I'm amazed he could walk.

  • Neil - You are a class act!

  • just want to say that drummers jokes are not for Neil Peart.

  • Best drummer in the world.

  • neil has a sexy voice

  • @94dynamite .... he could easily have a career doing voiceovers.

  • Neil's a show off.

  • 5:22 "Beat 'em like an Alberta Lieberal" LOL

  • Great...5:21 "Beat 'em like an Alberta Liberal" LOL

  • @javaman68 And that is why Harper will screw Alberta every time. Too stupid to vote Tory; not smart enough not to.

  • every straight man's wet dream !!

  • Mercer gets bonus point for pronouncing Neal's last name correctly! :-)

  • totally cool!!

  • LOL. Neil's awesome.

  • Every Rush fan should watch their new documentary. Extremely interesting.

  • Is Neil the one whose voice we are hearing at the conclusion of the opus "2112", who says "...we have assumed control...we have assumed control..."?

  • @IwshIcldstrtover he is THE voice that says that im pretty sure.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover Yeah, all the narrative parts on Rush songs are Neil and as I'm sure you know, all the lyrics are written by him as well.

  • Is there any lifeform cooler than Neil Peart? The answer is no. There is no lifeform, even on other planets who who has ever surpassed the coolness of Professor Neil Peart.

  • "best drummer in the world". I'm pretty sure he meant Universe.

  • Peart rocks, and he's been through the mill.Good luck to him.He rides the drums like a surfer on a wave...improbable but true

  • thats not awful most people cant keep the hi-hat groove in a pattern at all at first..but then again his teacher is Mr. Peart so just from being in the same room as him would make him better

  • That was cool.

  • whats the documentary called? is it just for Neil Peart or for all of Rush?

  • @Toasted420Times Its called Rush:Beyond The Lighted Stage, and its all of rush

  • @levipearl2112 Thank You :)

  • Thanks for the vid!! Anyone know when the documentary comes out?

  • @09infintig37x it comes out on the 29th of june (im pretty sure)

  • So awesome!! Thanks for sharing.

  • I love this. Thanks so much for putting it up. I couldn't stop smiling. I LOVE RUSH!!

  • Awesome skit lol

  • "World's greatest drummer". He's 100% correct.

  • @chrisw2546 Neil's definately the best ever...Followed very closely by Scot Rockenfield (Queensryche) No question about it.

  • - great segment!

  • that's totally cool!!

  • What class and talent, nothing more is to be said...

  • Thanks for posting this! NEIL PEART telling drummer jokes = PRICELESS!

  • That's classic. I am laughing out loud over here!

  • Neil has a very distinguished sounding voice. Reflects his intelligence. That would be amazing to get a real lesson from him.

  • Tweedle dee and tweedle dum to Neil

  • Rick aint half bad... probably not his first time playing drums

  • he always looks like he is angry at me when Neil is playing im like "What did i do kick your puppy?"

  • He is in rare form, hope he does more of this

  • The thing is, that 'small' drum kit is considered quite large for most drummers. It's just small compared to THAT.

  • what does a drummer use for birth control? his personality...ROFLMAO

  • @Anticrombie918 ditto! xDDDD

  • Neil's the man.

  • The end was funnay as hell.......thanks for posting.

  • Wicked. :)

  • lol drummer jokes! :D

  • Is this the guy who did sleepless in seattle??. Wow he looks sorta different now.

  • @nathan7007 lol that is sad peart not pert and rush is the best band alive

  • neil peart is a monster of the drums :D

  • Very nice!

  • try growing up in Australia!,

  • Gotta say this is one of the best things I've seen on YT.. has all the elements. My fav drummer showing his personality, chops, grace and a huge funny bone.

Love it! Living in USA vs Canada has always meant having less of RUSH.. until YouTube. Thanks for posting... mikey

  • Funny how I always thought his name was pronounced "Purt" - not "Peeurt"

  • @luckyvet Haha same

  • It must be difficult to concentrate when the drum kit is turning around like that. Peart's the best one out there, as far as I am concerned!

  • Neil...hell, the whole group, are amazingly down-to-earth. I got to meet them in '03 on their "Vapor Trails" tour. Alex and Geddy signed my VT CD copy, and I got to talk to Neal for about 5 minutes. I was in Heaven!

  • Neil Peart is from Hamilton!

  • @musicbrain5 wong st.cathrines

  • Really entertaining interview!

  • what year was this in?

  • the most animated i have ever seen peart be. this was great. i have never seen him all excited talking about drums . i got all happy, lol

  • Neil seems to be the nicest guy you'd ever meet ?

He's pretty big, he's probably the best drummer ever , then Buddy Rich , Bonham then Moon

  • @honvetops yea Bonham got 1st best, Moon was 3rd I beleive, and Peart was 4th best (top 50 drummers of all time) Mike Portnoy was 5th !

  • that must have been awesome, to enter Rush's bat cave.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for putting this up. I've never seen an interview with Neil quite like this. They are SO RARE. That made my night!

  • hey no problem I'm glad you liked it so much

  • @snarlingrabiddog5150 Not rare. Just Canadian. =P

  • @snarlingrabiddog5150

Well then you should check out the new RUSH documentary...it is loaded with tons of one on one interviews with him. Really cool stuff that he has never talked about before to anyone. Fantastic film.

  • @snarlingrabiddog5150 Neil doesnt do many interviews or fan/press related activities...which is kinda a shame, but i still understand...

  • I don't know why I expected Neil to not be the way he was. He's really cool! Makes me like Rush even more.

  • This is AWESOME--Rick is very funny, and I have never seen Neil interview before--I agree, Rick really NAILS the drums...BEWARE Neil PEART...Rick is now the BEST!!!LOL

  • Amen, "NSResponder"!!!!!!!! I agree with "LHat99zz" as well!...Mr. Peart is such a class act. This guy was the 800 lb. gorilla in my world 27 years ago when I graduated high school...I've gained even more respect for this great man since!

    Respect & Peace To All...

  • lol, rick's pretty good

  • it's where the drums live lol

  • Peart is a real class act

  • That man is one of the greatest rock and roll drummers of all time. Thanks for posting this!

    -jcr
