pedro is the best pitcher stuff wise of all time no doubt. maddux was a control pitcher who pitched to corners with decent movement and changed speeds efficiently. if you ask me they are pretty close in the who's better contest. if i had to pick one to start game 7 of the world series im picking pedro in his prime over maddux in his prime!!
look at that! 3:45 pudge doesn't even move his glove....95+ mph fastball, devastating changeup, terrific curveball, and pinpoint control? It's no wonder why he is among the elite pitchers in baseball history!
@insanemethod1 granted babe ruth was a great hitter no doubt and he was a great pitcher too but remember that babe ruth pitched in the dead ball era and to have a sub 2.00 ERA was certainly not unheard of in his day and the fact that pedro in 2 years in the american league in the highest offensive period in baseball history maintained a sub 2 ERA is tremendous
He's still not retired, nobody's willing to at least give him a job in the bullpen. Come on man, rotator cuff and all this guy could pitch with one leg amputated and other standing on a coffee table.
Not only did he dominated the entire league during his prime, he did it during the steroid era where sluggers use it more often. His fastball got so much movement, it look like a cutter goes from 94-98mph. His circle change is way too deceptive, and it hit 78-81 mph. His curveball got a late break, that can fool anybody.
@chiefofops1988 i agree, i was 3 years old when this game took place but i wish i was old enough to comprehend what was happening. i had no idea how good pedro was until about year ago. Know he is my favorite pitcher of all time.
@SimpleStuff31 I'm talking about my generation, bud. Pedro's dominating years were from about 1997 to 2003. Maddux's had some sick years but I was really too young to remember those... obviously Maddux had some outstanding years all the way to the end of his career, but from '97 to '03 Pedro was the best pitcher I ever saw. Guy came out of the pen in a playoff game against Cleveland and threw 6 perfect innings if I remember right... Pedro did it all man
Under appreciated Boston sports figure.

I swear if i was able to build a baseball team using ANYBODY in baseball history pedro martinez would be the first on my list....

@theFIFTHspade seriously? i would have taken babe ruth because he was the greatest hitter ever and arguably a better pitcher than pedro.

@chiefofops1988 shame you didnt get to see him, two straight years with an era under 1.80, last pitcher to do it before that was walter johnson.
