I can't stand to listen to a bunch of stupid sons a bitches who buy into this bullshit on greenhouse and global warming This is all a political scam to scare the stupid American people. LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES Hang these son a bitches for treason
Nancy Pelosi you are an idiot. The last I checked, a tax break is just allowing somebody to keep their OWN money. You are so arrogant. How can you pretend like that money belongs to the gov't to start with as if it's yours to allocate to whatever pet project you see fit? Doesn't the gov't waste enough of our money already, something that you refused to stop by shelving the one yr. moratorium on pork. If you were talking about subsidies that's different but that's not what the decription says.
Did anyone expect us to advance alternative sources of power during the years Oil Barrons were in power? Or the years a Demoncrat was in power? Clinton fooled me till I realized he also caved in to creating a short term positive legacy. 1% used NAFTA to transfer a huge amount of wealth to themselves while annihilating the middle class. Oh, but wait we have more millionaires than ever! Lol Lol
'I don't know anything about that model but my guess would be less power, more expensive parts..
It is doable...and to believe Exxon pays car companies to hold down mpg is a joke.'
I did pay almost 2k more for that engine but it saved many k over the years. I think that is anathema to immediate gratification which is our present God, like this War 'feels good to exact revenge' in spite of the fact that we are raping our people, constitution, 'real' values and YES our economy!
I most respect people that can break ranks with their 'fraternity' of choice. I am a Liberal, but I come from a Libertarian ideal and not a communist/socialist one. The oil companies claim that the profits are required for a company that depends on large profits to bear the down cycles. How come this does not apply to 'Joe Six Pack'? Also, how come every corp passes the buck 100% (heck even take advantage) to the consumer at the end. Can't we all share the burden? GBOT!
I am a conservative republican and I think government should be as small as possible. With that said I am going to make a statement that doesn't really reflect my personality, but the government needs to do something about these giants. This is a case of out of control capitalism and these prices are blatantly tyrannical especially since their product is inelastic. With the lower class suffering so much these companies are borderline un-American.
They sell more then just gas at the pump. So their money isn't only made by everyday americans. Don't think they are making billions off middle to low class people.
In 2001 oil per barrel was about $34, gas was about $1. Oil per barrel is $105, and $3 for gas.
You cannot blame oul companies for their profits, they are in the business for their shareholders. It is too late for the government to do anything. If they make oil share profits, their stock drops, everyday americans lose their money.
Oil will then try to revive the stock through mass layoff. It's too late, government should never dictate profits, it's not their job. Government can intervene, jobs will be lost, shareholders will lose mass money, or they can do what they never do and stay out of it.
In my last msg I said "In 2001 oil per barrel was about $34, gas was about $1. Oil per barrel is $105, and $3 for gas.
"--Meaning oil companies really have made their pirces based on the fluctuation of oil/barrel.
Are you really saying that their gross profit margins are within normal limits? That the jump from the 30 billion dollar per year range to the in excess of 120 billion dollar per year range is justified? Are you really saying that their allocation of funds, in relation to their net profit, is acceptable? Less than 1% to research into alternative fuel sources is nothing less than trying to keep gouging Americans for as long as it is possible for them to do so.
"jump from the 30 billion to 120 billion ... is justified?"
Don't know where you get that Exxon's income was 40 bil.. not 120. Do you undertand they sell wayy more then just gas at the pump..
"Are you really saying that their allocation of funds,.. is acceptable?"
Yes, it is not the oil companies job to put themselves out of business. Capitalism isn't a feel good story. It's hard work of many people, why again should they accept losses?
They call themselves Energy Cos. Why? They are oil companies. sighet04 what do you think about; geothermal, nuclear, wind, photo voltaic etc. Forget about Ethanol that is not helping. China's appetite for oil is not going to wane.
Wake up! Let's not even talk about corporate responsibility. Look at what unmitigated capitalism is doing to China. Environment is in the dump; air, water, sea, food etc. Oh, but we should do away with FDA, EPA because it hurt business. Right? As McAuliffe said=Nuts!
Really? You think the prices are fair? If you look at the average inflation rate of about 2.9% over the last 10 years, and the average price of gas being 1.16 in 1998, that means we should be paying $1.54 per gallon. I realize there are more than two factors involved, but that means based on the average gas price today of 3.24, there is $1.70 per gallon that we are being gouged. You're telling me short supply, which it isn't, and share profits justifies an extra $1.70? How much $ is enough?
I am a closet Libertarian because I recognize that for that model to work everybody would have to be a Buddist or have a conscience. An 'entity' without a conscience seeks to grow and prevail regardless of the consequences to humans. Corporations goals do not include what is best for U.S. AT ALL! Look how corporations ran amok with NAFTA. It is absolute madness to see so many jobs lost, while corp/boards retire in few years with millions. Not to mention Golden Parachutes :( IT IS MADNESS!
i don't know if Clinton was naive or if he was just seeking a quick fix to leave office with a nice economy regardless of the cost later. having said that I think this War(Idiot made Disaster) will eclipse any bad decision he ever made 100x. Any possible benefit of this War will be canceled by the repercussions of every type that will last generations. Saad!:(
Well get read to speak openly about your being a political Independent 'cause while people can ignore the war NO ONE can ignore the rise of oil prices and I have a feeling it's going to KILL the GOP.
If it challenges your 'Fraternity Credo' or your 'Core Values=Zealot Beliefs' respond by pigeon holing your perceived enemy.
Case and point look at China it is in all actuality unchecked capitalism. Exactly what we would have here if we did not BALANCE our policies. Your response speaks volumes about you and those you represent.
Who says? Al Gore? The man who plans to spend 300 mil to convince ppl global warming is a problem? If you're talking about water problems in Africa, that's corruption, not because my car only gets 20 mpg.
"Oh, but we should do away with FDA, EPA because it hurt business."
--No keep them. Limit the regulations. No need to force co. to boost mpg to extremes.
A demand rising faster then the supply is a short supply, that's what is happening.
-You say you realize it's more then two factors then you explain to me why it doesn't make sense?? It's not just inflation, it's speculation, and rising demand driving up the cost per barrel.
-Gas at the pump follows the oil/barrel.
Congress calling them up is only a marketing strategy, will congress do anything? No..they really can't do anything.

IF tomorrow Ford comes out with a 100mpg car, the market share for that car would be 85%. They would make more selling a car with the most mpg.

Oil is relatively cheap, based on inflation and shortage of supply.
The only way to see oil drop is to get people that make bids on future oil to drop their idea that it is worth over $100/ barrel.
