Public Universities like UT Austin pull the same horse-crap for a lot of their academic programs. Outside of accounting and engineering you will have a crap degree.
@raoulhery No, the universities want to make the money. It costs too much for them to change with the times, but k-12 was put together by the Rockfellers to makes us mindless worker drones. Private education at home and working under a skilled person is the best education.
@1991Avega Go to a state school. You'll save a lot of money and won't get laughed out of a job interview. Also, go for something useful, something you can actually get a job with.
Private business looks for a source of profit and goes after it. In this case they located the juicy government backed student loans. For profit education only exists at teh scale it does because of the federal money. The best answer is to get the government out of student loans. This way only the students with a reasonable chance of paying pack their loans will get them and they will come from private lending. The price of education will fall when the easy money goes away. Just like houses
I should have done my RESEARCH first!!! but i only attended because of the convience because of my full time work schedule (decided and anxious to change careers to get into the healthcare field - my first love before i got inot the finance industry) ...EVEREST COLLEGE, BURR RIDGE, IL was a NIGHTMARE!!! THE WHOLE SEVEN MONTHS...its been a month and i havent found an externship.. i would advise anyone to please go to a COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR please, please do your research on these institutions!!!!
@radvolk unfortuantely you are in the rarity. Also, not all trad schools are alike, so what you have stated is based on your opinon. You see PBS has done their research and presented their facts and case extremely well. Reguardless of how you feel about trad education I would rather go to a community college then a for profit school.
@radvolk your statement on non-for profit/traditional schools is false. Not all trad schools are alike. My issue with for profit ed is the frequent unethical practices that is occuring. Also, for profit schools best intrest is not in the quality of the student's education or the future job placement. But generating of monies thru student loans.
The biggest problem for people who join these universities is that they join under the assumption that they will get an easy degree. They think they are signing up for a large online tutorial or survey and it is not true. I went to the traditional university and I sat with the idiots that did not want to learn and party and my professors were graduated failures that could not do, but taught. At these schools you work with working adults and your teacher works in the industry. Don't hate, embrace
My heart was hurting after watching this. I graduated from a tech school as well as a regular college. I just think both are scams, but the tech schools are even worst. I would not recommend anybody to go to a tech school. College sucks, but at least college has become a requirement and somewhat respected. Tech schools are just crap and they charge so much. The vast majority of students fail. Tech schools go after students who fail.
@femmefatale1990 ... Yeah, I had a few friends that went to ITT Tech and now they're making 70K plus. I also have a friend that has no degree and making 65K in the IT field. I went to LFCC for two AS Degrees and transfer to Strayer University to get my BS (bullshit) in IT... After getting my BS I got a promotion and the company paid my tuition. The professors I had are very knowledgeable at Strayer and willing to help me (in person, phone, email or campus).
@k2chris1983 You don't need a degree for IT, some are looking for it, most aren't. You can even work for NATO, UN, EU and many multi-nationals without a degree with only a few years experience and A+, Networking and MS or Linux certifications. Don't believe me look at Dice.com or the career web site for any of the places I just mentioned.
The grand-daddy of them all is DeVry! EASY entry test and when you didn't have a clue what you signed up for until the 2nd tri-mester. By then, it's too late and you've been hoodwinked. By the 3rd tri-mester, more than half of your fellow entrants are GONE - maybe even yourself. You still have a tremendous bill to pay for classes that were less than half the cost at your local 2 year school that offered A.S. degrees for the same area of study!
With 80+ jobs out there that don't require a BS/BA degree. Why do employers insist on having one? I do agree that you would need job related training in your area of interest, you don't need 4 years. I have 2 associates degrees in Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Mgmt. and Environmental Geology, and can't find a job because most of the employers want a BS degree to work with wildlife. You don't need a BS except if you go into research jobs in wildlife.
