Nice Approach Good Job! AS OJpilotboy says I would have to agree upon. If you were on land that would be a good approach, what if you loos your engine approaching a yacht like you did? Into the water ya go. Not trying to be disrespectful. I love all who fly helicopters!
The shallow approach is a habit of mine mainly because of the limited views in FSX. If I come in higher, I gotta work the camera to even see the pad, and since I don't have TrackIR, that task becomes fairly difficult, especially when you remember that there's a helicopter to be controlled, lol.
Yep. I'm going to go talk to the USCG recruiters in a few days. I'm planning on staying in school getting my BA degree, then joining the USCG when I'm 21, hopefully qualifying for Officer Candidate School.
From there, I'd try my best to be selected for Flight training, and start my career there.
But that's just a plan. Who knows how it will all work out in the end. It is my dream though.
Why not get your ATP rating in civilian, and work as a CFI through School. Then go into the USCG.c That why you can build your hours and get experience before enlisting. That may help you get into the flight program
lol, yeah. not every landing can be a perfect landing. If the JetRanger had wheeled landing gear, and some form of suspension, this landing would have been just fine.
You don't want to spend too much time finessing your landing, especially on a moving helipad. Dynamic rollover waiting to happen...
If a helicopter were to be performing operations over water often, I'd imagine it would be equipped with emergency floats. Crews that fly to oil rigs, for example, have to be trained to ditch.
But yeah, in this particular case, the helicopter is not equipped with emergency floats, and I would indeed be swimming if the engine failed.

make you approach higher and watch the pad via the chin windows then you can have a soft landing and can autorotate onto the deck if your engine goes

@TheRAMPAGE233 It's pretty obvious to see that in the video, no?

Not bad flying except you were slightly out of trim and came in a bit shallow for my liking.

@rhd75 Maybe the shallow approach was because he wanted to avoid settling with power (vortex ring) problems... real life pilots do that all the time.

Is that an AI default yacht, or an add-on?
awangj1 2 years ago
It is a default ship in FSX.
TheyTookMyWoody 2 years ago
@TheyTookMyWoody Than how did you land on it without going straight through and without it saying *CRASH*?
awangj1 2 years ago
So is this what you want to do in life? If so, I think you would be a great helicopter pilot.

Thanks. Yep, Ice cold Alaska.
The Yacht was spawned randomly. I don't know who would take a yacht to the rough waters of Alaska at this time of year, lol.

But yes, this was a bit of a rough landing

What happens if you have to auto rotate over the water? You are dead, No place to land
