@leffehoegaarden The car is alive and well and ran in Bakersfield a few weeks ago - it's a historic car now and was recently celebrated by the NHRA at Pomona. nitroamerica channel here just shot some great video of it, take a look. they injured the engine and it will be back for the March Meet we hope. Short wheelbase cars tend to get very squirrelly when you get off the power at the top of the track; shutting off power wouldn't help as the throttle helps steer the car
@leffehoegaarden the starter was telling the guys in line waiting to run to shut down - he thought the coupe was going into the wall and they would have to clear up the debris
@omarks Thanks, I think in modern Fuel cars they have a remote kill switch (there was talk of it at least) in case the driver gets into trouble. I shouldn't think this car is that hi-tech underneath. Do you know the car Mark? Is it still running or has it escaped from the driver and crew and run off into the wild? I'm kind of scared of it and I'm not even in the same country!?!?!
@nctrooper10722001 That's because you've never been in a high powered car with a short wheelbase and bias ply rubber that's stepping out at the top end.
@nctrooper10722001 Don't be a dope. You're talking about a blown nitro door car with a short wheel base. I have a car with a short wheel base, I don't run nitro, just methanol here but when they get out of shape it's not like the dragsters they just pop the chute or drive out of it. full bodied car gets outta shap at about 100, you're lucky to keep it out of the wall. This guy wasn't so lucky, he should have stayed out of it when he lifted the first time. mightasavdthebodywork but he can drive!
why did he get on it again, thats a no no with high powered cars,on slicks with no sidewalls, crazy stuff, that car could have been destroyed along with the driver.
The only way you can turn off a fuel car is by taking the fuel supply away...period!!
