1$ isn't insulting compared to when I traded in a PS2 game at gamestop and they give 50 cents for it then I went back in the next day to get a wii remote and were selling the game used for 8$. NOW THAT IS INSULTING!
The guys from gamestop don't even care about the condition about my game. I traded in a Golden Sun game, UNOPENED and IN A BOX, and they payed me $2.00 for it. When the retail price of the game was $30. What the fuck is up with that?
@Cynthetik You should see the games they sell. I bought Final Fantasy X a few years back and i really can't believe the condition it was in, it looked like 4 cats had a fight to the death with it. Not only do they rip people off by giving them very little money, they sell the game, even if it's all fucked up and then swear it works perfectly and it's worth the money..
@AzureRoxe The same thing happened to me the first time I went into Gamestop. I bought a Pokemon Crystal game that froze and crashed frequently and stopped working two weeks later.
I was like 12 back then. Parents couldn't be bother to return the game.
I gave up on consoles and just do PC gaming but i hate it to an extent because my computer could easily be fucked up by a game of mine not properly working
Like L4D2 at one point made me take out my graphics card and put it right back in in order to get it to work properly...
Plus theres windows live for pc and none have you forgotten this im sure
Too true. That shit and console makers refusing to allow backward compatibility drove me away from the console gaming scene.
Now I'm a PC gamer who hunts down old school PC games via cheap download on Steam, GOG and Amazon. At least PC games are still playable on the newer operating systems via free patches. And most PC games are now CHEAPER than the console versions.
gamestop offered me 5$ for about 10 games and im not gonna lie they werent in the best condition.but thats it 5$ so i gave him an angry look, then i took my games and told the employe "your gonna b out of work in a couple years cause theres not gonna be anymore used games, its all going to be downloadable" then he said get out of my store.
Gamestop offered me $0.45 for a game and then I took it to a different and store they made a trade with me : The game for a really huge discount on two DVD titles that were priced at ten dollars or more.
ok seriously...why sell a game you payed $60 for...its a waist of money and you'll get screwed in the end anyway...what i suggest is rent the game first...then if you don't like it send it back and if you do like it, buy it if you can afford it...also selling it on ebay isn't a bad idea either...i think i just solved every gamer's problem with this comment...thank you
I purchased Star Wars Force Unleashed II at Best Buy. I played it and realized it was shit. I sold it at Game Stop, one week later, while it was still pretty much brand-new, purchased for 50 dollars. They gave me $8.00. This Game Stop is now a smoldering heap of ash.
@ShinFurevindo I have only once, turned in a few games, and then a few days later I was searching the shelf being "OMFG WHERE TEH FUCK ARE YOU!?" And then to realize I sold it :( Never sold any game every agian. I'm running out of space too :(
@Ravenclth Yeah... I've got room for maybe 1 or 2 more games... maybe... I've already been forced to move my DS games to the end of my DVD shelf because my game shelves are full of all the others...
This also applies extremely well to buying and selling textbooks at a college bookstore. Buy a used book for $70, only get $5 when you sell it back to them :/
somebody should firebomb these stores... put them out of buissness. i look around these places all the time. and they want wayy too much for crappy games. a friend of mine bought a videogame that was special eddition and was suppose to come with a cloth map and some rare items along with the game. it was taken out allready and sold to him "brand new". meanwhile i went to wal mart and paid 5 dollars less and got everything he did not.
i traded in more then 20 games at one point, got roughly 60 bucks, 10 of the 20 games were pretty much brand new games that just recently came out. i was so pissed
A good way to gauge how much you'll get for a trade-in is whether the game in in the store on the shelves. If it is, expect to get 10-30% of it's original value - they have to turn a profit after all - if it isn't on the shelves, it comes down to whether someone is looking for the games you're trading in. Maybe someone came in and wanted an old game you just happen to be trading in. If so, you'll get a good amount for it, considering it's age. If not, a dollar is about right for unwanted games.
you never make any money trading in used games at gamestop. your better off just keeping them or selling to a friend or something, theres been times in the past where id buy a used psp game that had a loose case and when i tried to return it they wouldnt take it back. and some games that are old still cost like $30-$40. but if you try and trade in one of those games they give you 5 bucks. and forget about returning a new game even if you never opened the packaging they wont give you anything
money. If they have a lot of copies it's unlikely that all of them will sell especially if it's new seeing as how most people prefer new anyways. We are not entitled to get a huge chunk of our money back. It's their store, it's their risk, and it's their profit. If you don't like it just go somewhere else. Bitching about it just makes you an asshole. Oh and BTW, they are nowhere near that picky about the condition of the game. They don't care if you don't have a case, or manual.
so many stupid people. It's a lot more complicated than "you're selling it for 40 so give me 30. You're still making money."
Um, no they aren't. All they did was just give you 20 dollars. There is zero guarantee that the title will even sell especially if it's older. they have to take into account supply and demand.
With newer titles it works the same way. If it's popular it's likely they will get a lot of trade in's. If they gave people 40 dollars for each and every copy they would lose >>>
ive experienced everything hes talking about at GameStop, and i must disagree with Foamy, the refurbishment price isnt that high, even for laser damage (the circular scratch that ruins the entire disc) i had horrible laser damage on my Borderlands copy, and only had to pay $5 for refurbishment, and the games amount was $20, so i got $15 back, and the prices are cheap, and ive never gotten a dollar back for any of my games, it was usually over $10, i am an experienced GameStop shopper, so ha!
I worked at Walmart over the summer and Foamy you are wrong on the theft theory. We left out games that were 20 dollars on shelfs. At night kids would come in and steal as much as 50 discs from the cases and leave. They were even able to do it during the day but with less volume. They'd grab the game, go to another section of the store, steal the disc and discard the case. Videogames need to be behind the counter because it's very easy to steal it if nobody catches them.
i didnt relize that i was getting basical nothing for my trade-in like i gust bought a game for 50dollars when it came out 3 days later they sold it 2 me for 7 im like but your seeling this is for 50 why im i only getting 7 dollars for this?!
one reason i dont trade in to game stop. i get good deals on everything else but the trade ins.
what else sucks you can give them old games from the 90s either when they are more then hard to find anywhere else! its all over the internet now. like blockbuster. if i ever what to find a older movie or any older games i have to go online for it. thye would be making more cash if they were a lot more flexable.
on top of this, they have a fairly priced rental program. Also, if your local store doesn't have the title you want, it is 85 percent likely it is at a neighboring location. Even better, they will search ALL of their national stores for the title, console, or accessory you seek, and can either have it mailed to the store, or directly to your house for a VERY nice flat shipping rate of 3.50 extra.
I gave up gamestop for Vintage Stock. It mostly esists in the tornado belt. I live an hour out of Kansas City, and usually, most current titles are being sold for 5-10 off common retail there. The store actually focuses on classic and vintage, as the name inplies, and often you can find a childhood favorite (minus the console) for $20 or less. I recently bought an N64 with an expansion pack, plus 15 games for 175. Plus, though the trade ins there aren't super fair, you still get 3-5 more than GS
College bookstores are worse, at least game stores will give you a fucking dollar for your game. Cause if you go in and try to sell your books, 95% of the time they'll be out-of-date, even though you bought them in the same fucking semester! Oh, nope, can't buy this from you, but we'll gladly keep it for you even though the newer book doesn't update their figures! I'd be better off selling the paper to paper mills than selling it to a college bookstore
@iamathousandapples You know I completely agree. Also, if there is any slight damage on the book they won't accept it. I tried to return a book that had a tiny water stain on the bottom of a page, not even covering the words, but they told me it was damaged and they were unable to take it back because it was severely damaged. What the heck?
I find this true. I bought one of the new games Skyrim. After playing it for a few hours, I decided its not really my game type. Im not saying it sucks ass or anything, or whatnot. Its just not the kind of game I usually like to play. I pay $60.00 freaking dollars for it, and when I return after 3 hours or so they say "Your return price is $4.00." "Are you shitting me? I payed $60 for this thing plus tax... and all I get... is 4 fucking dollars?" Sometimes I wonder if I should buy games anymore
@shadow72211 that seems...weird. 4$ is a bit low...new games like that usually fetch somewhere in the 20 to 30 dollar range. not much better but anything beats 4 fucking dollars.
@shadow72211 Bro I have no idea how that happened... I work @ Gamestop and we are offering a $30 trade in STILL for Skyrim and a few other titles. PLUS if you returned it within 7 days you should have gotten a FULL money back guarantee (If you purchased from a "Gamestop") I would honestly report that store to management or even corporate and have the guy who handled your transaction fired :/
This is actually funny because i work in the Australian version of 'LameStop' and this is exactly what happens to me... sure their is a legal aspect and the company has to make profit but i agree, the trade in pricing and whole new and used game prices are fucking crazy... and even my staff discount is barely anything >.< But seriously... we cant change the prices or we get fired and to be honest... if its your satisfaction and my job im going to chose my job but i agree with Foamy all the way!!
@PHaTTMiKe13 I know exactly what you mean I work at Gamestop, in the US and even WITH my employee perks I would never trade in a game. It is honestly insulting sometimes what I have to tell people when they bring in one of their favorite games and want to trade it in and I tell them they are getting roughly a 10th of what they paid for it. So whenever I buy a game I just keep it for nostalgia later on. But yeah I fully agree with you and Foamy that the trade-in policy is a load of bullshit! :/
@PHaTTMiKe13 lmao i bought a new game in an american "lamestop" and it was 60 bucks, i go look at the used ones, and it's 40 bucks, i say i want a used one instead and they let me, they give me a cd that was so scratched that it wouldn't load, so i got a diffrent cd, i go in a month later after i beat it 20 times, and they said they'll give me 20 dollars in store credit, or 10 bucks in cash. Never again >.>
actually, once my sister won a two in one game in our classroom, 9the games, lego batman and some racing game, were about one month old at the time) and we went to gamestop to trade it in,before it cost 120 dollars, they would give us 3, we asked why, they said they were to old and they would not sell at all, we just left.
I would rather keep my old games than trade them in for £3 that way if I get misty eyed and want to replay they are right there, I sell nothing to these rip of merchants, also their games ae always priced higher than online anyway and sicne all games are over priced I would rather buy used than add to the greedy profit mongering game companies who charge me £40 for a game that cost them about £5 to make!
@NinjaNana707 No I mean they Bought it off me for .75 cents...And It's gonna be sold for $6.99...I only sold it because you'd have to have less then 3 brain cells to buy that game for PS2.
The worst part about the trade ins is that you rarely actually get money for trading in. It's usually in-store credit. I mean, it's useful for getting better games than the crap you traded in, but still...
@SyntheticCupcake dont justify it dude, game trade ins are an utter rip off, the ONLY time u should ever do it is if youre desperate for a game that you dont have the cash for but you have games to trade, and even in this situation its only good because its immediate. Youre always better off selling the game yourself to someone
Trade with best buy they give a whole lot of money if u trade in mw3 right now they give u $60 dollars ... If u trade in a old pokemon game u will get 35
i brought in 50 brand new games i havent tried in 2 years, still in the plastic wrap, and they say its only worth 100 dollars -.-....then i looked on the shelf for the same games and it added up to 378.97 dollars....WTF
i think Foamy is basing all his advice on what happens to him, so the people who piss him off because i think all the people he gets pissed off by he makes a vid based on what they're doing and when thoes people find his vids on the internet with hundreds, thousands, millions, AND billions watching this, they're gunna kno "Never mess with Foamy... Ever."
As someone who works at a game store, I want to give you guys more cash, but I can get fired for it. Basically we are taking games that we know might now EVER sell. Now, I hate GameStop because of just how bad they rip you off, but at least where I work at, we price things somewhat low enough to kind of justify the trade in amount, but hey, at least the amount e give isn't piss poor like other stores. Trust me, I've worked at a couple more, the way people rip you off is sickening.
I Know how this feels I took two old guitar hero games there and they were going to give me a quarter for them so I said fuck this. If they don't make something anymore its worth more too right? I looked on Ebay and I can sell them for ten bucks each and that not counting the guitars that go with the games.
Same thing with thrift stores. I love the stuff I find in Plato's Closet, but when I go in with 3 boxes of clothes to sell, some of it I bought from them recently or a week before that didn't fit, all they want is a couple pairs of shoes and a tshirt. I get ten bucks out of it. TEN BUCKS. And some of the stuff I put in there was BRAND NEW. Purple silk with the tags still attached. What the fuck?
I have $85 worth of comics that I don't want, and the comic shop I tried to sell them to only wanted about HALF of them, and offered me $4 for the lot of them. -_-
I attempted to do this yesterday at gamestop with my old Xbox 360 120 gig Harddrive, They would only have given me $6 for it so I said to them "Fuck you!" and left after selling my only Xbox controller.. Fucking cheap rip-off artists..
@MistaOppritunity IKR? i triel=d to sell my ps2 eye toy and that camra thing and for both combined i got 75C! NOT EVEN A DOLLAR! UR FUCKING SELLING THE PS# VERSION FOR LIKE 60 BUCKS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
When I get my own game store, the only games I'd pay a dollar for would be worth $2. If someone gave me a game worth $50, they'd get $25. Because my game store would be called, "Three-P's Compleat Gamer," not, "Three-P's Compleat Shakedown."
@UrbanImposter Totally agree. I bought a psychology book brand new at the bookstore at the begging of the semester. I come back at the end of the semester to sell it, and just because of a little bent corner, they want to give me $2 for a $130 dollar book.
These fuckers need to die. I'm just sticking to buying on Amazon. :/
The things you buy are worth more to you than to others...
The weird thing about this viewpoint is that because of demographics and types of game users video-games will never go completely digital...
It sounds like foamy the squirrel is a hedgenomist as well as a mouse rapist and or rat sex sell-out...
The worst thing about these store's is the pre-order fascists on both side of the counter that kind of ruin gaming for everyone buying it early makes them special tho'...
I play all my games.,,, even moreso that I have to get all my shit back. Had to hard wipe my PS3 and I want to get shit back to where it was, if not better.
FUCK GAMESTOP! I started selling and buying my games from Bestbuy. They have not ripped me off and they are VERY honest with their merchandise and codes of ethics. Heck, They even told me how to get a new SERIAL NUMBER for my OLD DS. Let's see gamestop top that! >D
I asked a gamestop employe how much could I get if I traded in my xbox 360 elite the older model the guy said $40 WTF and that was in store credit if I wanted cash it would be even less FUCK THAT.
@xxIlSOLDIERlIxx dude i gave them 12 games and got 6.25$. i came back 2 days later and the game i got the least on was on the shelf for 15.99$! and i know it was mine cuz i marked the bottom with a marker.
The other thing that's a rip-off is that they ask for your photo ID, even thought they've seen your face, asked for your name. This happens when you pre-order a game or return a used game. That annoys the hell outta me!!!
see thats what i do. they rip me of so i sell them on ebay

on top of this, they have a fairly priced rental program.

I'd be better off selling the paper to paper mills than selling it to a college bookstore
iamathousandapples 1 month ago

I payed $60 for this thing plus tax... and all I get... is 4 fucking dollars?" Sometimes I wonder if I should buy games anymore
shadow72211 1 month ago
@shadow72211 if there's that much risk of losing money involved, I wouldn't. Try GameFly maybe?
photoshopluvr13 1 month ago
@shadow72211 that seems...weird. 4$ is a bit low...new games like that usually fetch somewhere in the 20 to 30 dollar range. not much better but anything beats 4 fucking dollars.
StealthNull 1 month ago in playlist More videos from jimathers

PHaTTMiKe13 1 month ago 43
@PHaTTMiKe13 I know exactly what you mean I work at Gamestop, in the US and even WITH my employee perks I would never trade in a game. It is honestly insulting sometimes what I have to tell people when they bring in one of their favorite games and want to trade it in and I tell them they are getting roughly a 10th of what they paid for it. So whenever I buy a game I just keep it for nostalgia later on. But yeah I fully agree with you and Foamy that the trade-in policy is a load of bullshit! :/
DanteLeonidesStaford 1 month ago

The worst part about the trade ins is that you rarely actually get money for trading in. It's usually in-store credit. I mean, it's useful for getting better games than the crap you traded in, but still...
SyntheticCupcake 2 months ago 55
@SyntheticCupcake dont justify it dude, game trade ins are an utter rip off, the ONLY time u should ever do it is if youre desperate for a game that you dont have the cash for but you have games to trade, and even in this situation its only good because its immediate. Youre always better off selling the game yourself to someone

That's consumerism...
