  • This is funny. I don't think it even has a melody, yet it's... somehow catchy. It won't follow you everywhere you go, but it surely will make you play it again. And again. And again, for no apparent reason.

  • @ArendosPL Seriously....I felt the same way the first time I heard it. All Agalloch songs that I've heard have had that affect on me.

  • dammit, it's like this song is ripping my guts... I can't tell what it is, but it REALLY feels like a Desolation Song. The first time I listened to this song, on the first seconds I was like "aw, a cute acoustic song", and by the end of it I just felt so melancholic. This song makes me feel quiet and aware of my emptiness, it makes me stare at nothing for longer than I should, thinking about nothing, just feeling this emptiness, not sad neither worried about it, just feeling it.

  • Opeth is good. Agalloch is good. They're two completely different bands, comparing them is stupid.

  • THE BEST SONG¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ :I

  • I whip out my slong and take a good steaming wiss on Opeth

  • Stop talking about Opeth, their a boring and overrated metal band. Not the slightest bit unique. This band however is more unique, and meaningful.

  • @Daemonfury1 opinion

  • I stayed up all night, listening to nothing but Agalloch. I have to say, this is the most beautiful and melancholic song I've ever heard..

  • agalloch=melodic,deep,peacefull,relaxing and calming. i love it

  • no words this is magic not music

  • @thepsyqo music is magic man :)

  • useless f hope...

  • tryhard wannabe crap

  • I would not compare it to anything :) Agalloch is only one :)

  • Epic !

  • I would compare them to Wyrd, Empyrium, Ulver and Gallowbraid. But not Opeth.

  • I wonder who are those 18 who disliked the song.

They must be techno zombie-minded leaders or something similar..

  • deep song love it

  • loved what cds this off l have a few cds by them

  • I'd say Agalloch, especially their more folklike songs, are comparable to Of The Wand and The Moon and also Sol Invictus, both whom Agalloch are heavily influenced by.

  • Here's to love, the sickness

The great martyr of the soul!!

  • Here's to love, the sickness

The great martyr of the soul

  • the song is fantastic...

  • I do not understand the comparison between Opeth and this band, I love both bands but Agalloch is in their own realm, Id say this band is heavily in the vein of old Ulver in their folk music days.

  • Probably the best acoustic song ever and one of my favorite songs in existence... Perfect for creating a sorrowful atmosphere anywhere, anytime. <3

  • I love this song.

  • Here I sit at the fire.... unreal song.

  • One of the most depressing songs I have ever heard. But at the same time, it's incredibely beautiful... well done, Agalloch.

  • People compare the two because they're both beautiful bands, who deeply respect nature. That's how I see them anyway.

  • I can see some stylistic similarities of "some" Agalloch and "some" early Opeth (Morningrise and before), but not much beyond that.

I do think Opeth has the edge in terms of being a better band, but these are both two of my favorites and both great bands imo.

  • 4:57

  • Again! good good good sad, sad, sad...

  • somehow, knowing agalloch, i think this song goes a bit deeper than just some guy getting dumped.....

  • for love is the poison of life very true....

  • Opeth is a boring wankfest. Agalloch are masters of emotive expression. There's no overlap.

  • "quench the thirst, drown the sorrow, and forget about cold yesterdays......................."

  • no girl has ever dumped me and none ever will. and before you say it's because i've never had a girl cuz i'm fat and ugly or something, no it's not the case and you're not funny. learn to live on your own

  • companion for all the cold and rainy days....

  • @DarkTranquillo

    fuck yea...

  • There are 3 great Folk Doom Metal Bands , 1 Empyrium - 2 Agalloch - 3 Uaral

  • This song has founded the essence of the thing. There is NO way the guy who wrote this song wasn't dumped like shit...

This could be a flag anthem, this should be !

Anyway, definitly gonna learn it vocals & harmonica

  • yawn.

  • the fuck is with Opeth comparisons on almost every Agalloch video? :S

  • stupenda

  • Even though I have a happy relationship with someone, I still like listening to this song because of its nice sound :o

  • Dammit! Why compare Agalloch with Opeth on every Vid here.

Anyway. I'm looking forward to the new album.

It will be great, no doubt.

  • my girlfreind just dumped me afew minutes ago... this song is so good. but so sad

  • nice made up story

  • @Peppepoppldoppl hahaha some faggot is bored

  • @YoGurtDale Agalloch = Gay to the brim. even the name is gay

  • @Peppepoppldoppl the name is good, so is the band. anyone who actually trolls on an undergroundish band like agalloch is pretty stupid. youre not gona get much response, and you have failed to piss anyone off including me.

  • @YoGurtDale undergroundish? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. FUCKING HELLL HAHAHAHA.

maybe they are underground in their own pants.

  • @YoGurtDale a troll is found in the woods. if you know what I mean. an internet troll wants attention.

i want nothing. i comment exactly what I want. and its your own business if you decide to be a fucktard douche replying with butthurt lines. its your own call. not mine.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl hahaha fuck you are ignorant, i have listened to swans, and i said this was undergroundish, because it is underground in music in general obviously. youre obviously one of those people who cant appreciate a lot of music.... its really kinda sad, and also pointless arguing with idiots like you

  • @YoGurtDale the faggot has never heard of swans.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl yeah, ive listened to them a few times fag... agalloch are much better though :D

  • @YoGurtDale Agalloch and New Wave along with Post-Rock is not comparable

  • @Peppepoppldoppl im comparing the bands not the genre

  • @YoGurtDale t8igojhhhhhhhhhhhi9e49999999 googooooogookoko

    go to sleep already

  • @YoGurtDale LOOK AT MY HAIR ASS.. LOOK AS I SLOWLY PUT DUCT TAPE ON THE HAIR AND RIP IT OFF.

HARHARHARHAR HONK HONK HONK NEIIIIIIGHAAAAA.. NMEEEEEEEEEEIIIHGH... BGRUST.

NOW I AM EATING BIRD POOP GLGLGGGGGLGL

  • @YoGurtDale you made up a story of some shit on the gayest wannabe fag band in the whole world and then you try to explain how its underground in any way.

listen to Swans. that's Underground. this is fail.

  • my girlfreind just dumped me afew minutes ago... this song is so good. but so sad.

  • hermoso

  • Agalloch it's good but, Opeth it's a million light years away from Agalloch.

  • @NEMEPOLYNHA that's cuz Agalloch is a million light years ahead of Opeth.

  • @NEMEPOLYNHA Opeth is too soft and has a modern touch. Agalloch is old, pure untouched forest-smelling stuff. Opeth has been somehow affected by todays world in my opinion. Agalloch still separates to its own.

  • @DreadMauler I think Agalloch is more atmospheric and tear jerking, while Opeth is more experimental and progressive

  • awesomeness

  • I respect Agalloch, but for some strange reason I never really got into them, I can't explain why but they don't seem to get to me...

  • masterpiece

  • cheers!

  • Why compare Agalloch to Opeth cant we just say both are OUT OF this world and enjoy their genius.

  • I love this song, it brings me so much emotions

  • I love Agalloch. Beautiful and haunting.

  • This whole song doesn't really fit in with The Mantle, and at first I thought it was a bonus track. Nonetheless, its a great song.

  • The lyrics are really melodramatic and rather out-of-character for this album at large, but still a very good song.

  • Why are people talking about Opeth? I adore Opeth, but I just don't see the correlation between them and Agalloch, and more importantly, don't see how you can lable one as better than the other..

Anyways, this is one of the few songs that can make me feel emotion these days, which is a powerful feat in itself.

  • ye that song inside me XD

  • Comment removed

  • agalloch; dark, beautiful, melancholy

  • @rageohol1 gay

  • This song is my love story

  • guys don't be mad but agalloch is way more more more and more better than opeth,at least for me :) Anyway they are all great

  • No offense, but I think comparing Agalloch to Opeth is pretty pointless. They're two of my favorite bands, and they complete each other perfectly.

  • The power of words...

  • god damn this is intense

  • If you enjoy Agallochs lighter stuff, check out Nest. They did a split with Agalloch. They are basically Agalloch without the heavy songs.

  • I think the reason people compare Agalloch to Opeth is because the 2 of them sound nothing alike.

  • @tomatooverlord they both have a mellow-acoustic style mixed with heavy and progressive songstyles.

They have their own sounds, but stylistically, they are similar.

  • @tomatooverlord lol, true

  • @tomatooverlord I never compare Agalloch with Opeth. I compare Enslaved to Opeth.

Agalloch is much deeper than Opeth. I would compare to early lo-fi atmospheric black metal bands, but not to Opeth.

  • @Videotubelord Agree. I would compare Agalloch to Ulver of some sort. Or maybe Forest Of Shadows. But not Opeth (although Opeth is my favorite band).

  • @Videotubelord Enslaved to Opeth? They are nothing alike! The fact that they are both influenced by 70's progressive rock doesn't make them similar!

  • @ChristinaDarkRose For me does, Enslaved to black - Opeth to death. Also that was response to Agalloch comparesment to Opeth, so which more alike to Opeth? ;)

  • @Videotubelord Opeth,Enslaved and Agalloch are three diferrent bands, with one common influence. That's all. Each one of them has its own, unique sound.

  • @ChristinaDarkRose I never said they are each others copycats. Enjoy the song...

  • @ChristinaDarkRose That's because Opeth is Opeth, Enslaved is Enslaved and Agalloch is Agalloch.

  • @Mklztr Exactly

  • @tomatooverlord They have similar themes though. I like both bands, but I prefer Opeth.

  • @tomatooverlord Probably because both bands write with acoustic guitars and the mood is similar gloomy and dark.

  • @tomatooverlord

Amen dude. I'm a big fan of both of these bands. They share similar emotional themes within their music. Thats about it.

  • @tomatooverlord

they dont but man... they give out a very similar feeling.

if there's one word for both bands its the word bleak. They are brother bands to me even if their music is many levels different.

  • This is great.

  • i can't stop listening to this, lol.

  • so brutal that they don't need to scream. lol.

  • agalloch's neofolk stuff is not bad

  • im usually into heavier stuff like meshggah lamb of god and DAATH so Agalloch is a nice break so i can clean the dry blood out of my ears xD

  • Check out Opeth its splendid blend of both.

  • Completely agree. Similar in many ways yet both have their own style and identity.

  • deep stuff.. iloveit.

  • Agalloch are the best band on Earth.

  • NEO FOLK

  • I love this kind of music. Great. I have all albums from Agalloch.

  • AWSOME!!!

  • They sound so organic, unusual for American metal bands. Outstanding songwriting and atmosphere as well.

  • I fell in love some time ago and I was so happy but my brother warned me, remember The Desolation Song! I didint care but now the girl has changed her mind and I can listen to this song again and again ........ love is ......

  • okay

  • @thagnarbarn ..the poison of life

  • @thagnarbarn Fickle.

  • I think this song just saved my Christmas

Wish I could tell the band personally...

As always, this song releases me into a state of pure awareness, it tears me open and leaves my insides to be picked upon by scavenging vultures. It makes me feel whole (y)

  • Poetry put to music elegantly. Calling these words lyrics will be an abuse. Music is brilliantly conceived. Thats what a band should be like. Very few musicians accomplish this. Is such an enjoyable experience listening to this track and others by Agalloch. I'm surprised they're american. Sound very swedish :)

  • amazingly awesome!

  • i am inlove with agalloch

  • Here's to love, the sickness

The great martyr of the soul

    Here's to life, the vice,

    The great herald of misery,

    In this cup, spiritus frumenti,

For this is the nectar of the spirit,

Quench the thirst, drown the sorrow

And forget about cold yesterdays. . .

  • the thing you have to really understand about listening to agalloch is that you have to really listen to their albums start to finish to appreciate their songs. i heard this song on youtube cos it had lots of views and thought it was pretty average but after listening to tthe whole album this sounded so much more emotional. does anyone else feel the same way?

  • me...

  • @mattlock90 Yeah you might be right...

  • If you like DBM and other dark metal project look at "The Foetal Mind - Suicide Solution" into my videos!

  • My inspiration to learn acoustic guitar, it's so beautiful.

  • Why did I miss them when they came to Paris...

  • O M F G. FUCKING AGALLOCH. COME TO LA!!!

  • great music, feel the emotion...

  • 1:08 "useless fucking hope"

  • ah... how stupid I am.

  • There's no swear word in this song.

  • I love song... T_T thank´s

  • Love this band but i only find one thing off putting with this song which is the swear word that doesn't seem to fit with the band or the song.

  • Its not in the Lyrics Booklet either. I think it may have been something he just threw in while in studio.

  • I don't mean to disrespect you but think the swear word fits perfectly. The fact that they NEVER use them but they do on this song and at that particular moment makes the message that much more powerful and real.

  • Yeah i thought the swear word made it sound more dramatic but i still think the song could do without it. I don't mind swearing with heavier bands but bands like agallock don't need swearing to express themselves.

  • it fits just fine. it's very expressive.

I'm sure you're talking about "...useless fucking hope.."

  • Yeah that is what i'm referring to. I see your from the UK also. Hoping they pay us a visit some time.

  • for me it fit perfectly, it show how much he hate all the shit he's living

  • My knowledge of english may not be that good. But where is the swearing?

  • "useless FUCKING hope"

  • Who cares if he swore? It's not like he did it to 'be cool' or to fit in with the metal scene, he probably did just get overemotional and wanted to express it in a way that he could through audio.

I despise bands that swear constantly, the whole '"yeah i'm fucking metal, look at me i'm fucking drinking beer and shit" thing is pathetic and i honestly believe you are doing the man a disservice by complaining about him swearing in one song...

  • It was just my own personal opinion. I know people feel the urge to defend the bands they love (and i do love agalloch BTW) as i often do with my extreme taste in music. It's not like i dislike the song or get where agalloch were coming from but my opinion stays the same.

  • Fairplay dude, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was mainly surprised by quite how many people had complained about a single swear word in an entire bands discography. Sorry I picked you to respond to

  • @MasochisticRage - They also use 'fucking' in Of Stone, Wind and Pillor, so it's not the only song ;).

  • Totally agree well said. I get goosebumbs everytime I listen to this song. The guitar work in the outro is...I dont know, I have no words for it. Just amazing,

  • gonna see them live on the 30th of this month :)

  • great song!!! \m/

  • The singer makes this band complete

  • Yes, but still...

There's just too much missing from him.

  • .. love agalloch...and maybe try some Empyrium...

  • Lùna, Tehni

  • ...I LOVE AGALLOCH!...

  • anyone know any more malancolic bands like this? please i need help.

  • none exactly like this but i can name a few very roughly similar bands. drudkh, lifelover, altar shadows, and possibly wyrd

  • Maybe old Candlemass?

  • try empyrium

  • October Falls, Tenhi

  • forest of shadows.

  • i am a litle surprised no one has suggested Asunder yet. Check them out, I'm pretty sure you will like them.

  • Try Joyless. If you want some albums, I can find links for you. Just message me.

  • @elgatoelectronico

The Morningside, possibly The Fall of Every Season.

  • This song is amazing. Really fits the mood right now.

  • Come on, Agalloch is the only band with 99% positive comments. Don't ruin it.
