I am Kinda anti Captivity. but Most people don't understand the reason behind it... I have worked at aquariums and stuff.I know for a fact that 95% of the sea mammals brought in are in a critical situation, to hear people whine about captivity Almost angers me.. because Of how often they have come in and we have healed them and let them go to live another day. there are the few occasions where we can't let them back to the ocean because of permanent damage.
I'm anti cap - but his tank at oregon coast aquarium was very good. It had rubbing rocks, bubble jets for him to play with, A machime that made tides and waves in the tank to discourage him swimming in one direction the whole time and he was catching live fish.
If seaworld insist on keeping orca in captivity, then they should do some of this.

@SilverIceDragon Im afraid Keiko never did find his pod his family the only orcas he was in contact with werent his family he just wanted to check them out and see what they where up too. Keiko was taken away to young and pod vocalizations werent recorded in Iceland and was very hard to locate his family without photo IDs. Keiko died in his home the ocean his birthright and thats where all killer whales should be. I will miss you Keiko forever and may you RIP my speacial friend.

Actually you are wrong, he did die because he was released. Keikos release was a crule,lonely, and painful death, 20-30 people quit his project when it neared final stage because they knew he wouldn't make it. Keikos immune system never fully recovered they nearly didn't release him but due to preasure from the public they did and Keikos immune system worsened in the wild and that is how he became sick and died of phnemonia. Btw, Orca don't normally get phnemonia..just so you know.
He didnt die because of that yes his immune system wasnt great but when he was re introduced to J-pod he was accepted but because he lacked the skills to survive fully in the wild such as hunting for food on his own he relied more on the other orcas for food. In 2002 He was seperated from J-pod and unable to join any other pod because he was so domesticated that started his starvation which in turn lead to sickness but not phnemonia and beached himself in the artic of 2003 which he died.

Its essentially gravity pulling down on it, it doesnt harm them or affected their swimming habits, in captivity, the water isnt deep enough to exert enough pressure on the fin, to harden the collagen and keep it straight, that and alot of the captive orcas spen much of their time at the surface, which can often cause it to flop :)

and you will also notice that in videos where you cant see there fin, you also cant see the 3 little dots that are under the real keiko's chin.

sentient, intelligent animals like whales and dolphins should never be kept in captivity for our mere entertainment.
the first 2 mins or so of the vid shows you just how wrong it to make one of nature's most fearsome predators do belly flops for the amusement of people who in all probability have a lower IQ than him.
at least keiko died a free whale.

i loved kieko as a child and i am now 16 but i still cry when i see the movie knowing he died because all the people wanted him free and now hes dead. so i hope they feel good.
he was the happiest dolphin in the whole world and i love him more than anything.

That song always get me, yea thats right I'm a weakling and sob when it comes to that song. I remember when I went to the Newport Aquarium and saw him, I pressed my hand and face up to the glass as he was looking at me, I thought that was the coolest thing. He was a great whale, I certainly miss him. This new Free Willy movie with Bindi Irwin I'm hesitant to see, no whale can replace Kaiko (Willy)

he didnt die because he was set free.... he lived the last good few years happy... he died as most orcas in the wild die, of phnemonia... it was a good thing he was free before he died!

Actually you are wrong, he did die because he was released. Keikos release was a crule,lonely, and painful death, 20-30 people quit his project when it neared final stage because they knew he wouldn't make it. Keikos immune system never fully recovered they nearly didn't release him but due to preasure from the public they did and Keikos immune system worsened in the wild and that is how he became sick and died of phnemonia. Btw, Orca don't normally get phnemonia..just so you know.

He didnt die because of that yes his immune system wasnt great but when he was re introduced to J-pod he was accepted but because he lacked the skills to survive fully in the wild such as hunting for food on his own he relied more on the other orcas for food. In 2002 He was seperated from J-pod and unable to join any other pod because he was so domesticated that started his starvation which in turn lead to sickness but not phnemonia and beached himself in the artic of 2003 which he died.

keiko had nooit gevangen mogen worden, zo'n mooi, groot dier kan gewoon niet in gevangenschap leven, orka's leven hun hele leven in groepen bij hun eigen familie. de film is heel erg goed, maar het is triest om te zien wat voor een leven hij had. ze zeggen dat het de gelukkigste orka van de wereld was, dus niet, en daarom dat hij ook op 27jarige leeftijd overleed. in het wild worden ze wel 90jaar..

I loved Keiko since the first day I saw him in Reino aventura ´till the day I read he died...I went every Saturday with my brother to see him,only him, all his shows and he is so wonderful....I will always love him and he was so special i love orcas wanna do something so they are not captive anymore..

Eso esta muy bien solo que este animal cuando fue liberado empezo a tener problemas en la piel, y creo que le costo mucho adaptarse al medio ambiente natural. A veces una buena intencion no es suficiente. Con los leones y leopardos que se crian en cautiverio los liberan, pero los supervisan, hasta que se comprueba que se adaptaron, y sino, ellos mismos los alimentan. (los del parque)

Keiko died at the same day when there are three things I'd never forget:

They kill more then just whales. They hunt seals, fish, other dolphins, sharks, squid, birds. If it's in their water, their range, it's free game.

Its essentially gravity pulling down on it, it doesnt harm them or affected their swimming habits, in captivity, the water isnt deep enough to exert enough pressure on the fin, to harden the collagen and keep it straight, that and alot of the captive orcas spen much of their time at the surface, which can often cause it to flop :)
