OMG I remember when this show premiered on TGIF!!! I watched the pilot when it aired. I was only 9, but I have quite a good memory!! Especially for tv stuff.....
Yes, I know what an opinion is, but your opinion will only be respected by the average person if it is based on knowledge and not assumptions. You have to be out of your mind if you think these production values are cheap. Also, I don't recall ever seeing comments similiar to yours...it's not like I view this video very often anyway. Yes, perhaps I should get busy and talk to these supposed other comments. One season has nothing to do with anything..shows get screwed around by networks often.
Trademarks are not necessarily related to a show’s quality..so why are you basing your judgment on them? They appear on productions no matter if they are good or bad, so whether or not the show is question is good or not should be isolated from this discussion. The trademarks here are of good quality anyway, so your argument there is pretty baseless. You’re apparently simple-minded..so thanks for clarifying that.
These openings are not "stupid-ass". In case you couldn't tell by the sweeping panoramic views and cinematography, affordability of anything was not an issue, especially since the producers and Lorimar were pretty cash-rich from their previous successes. Since when has it been a bad thing for producers to establish trademarks? When you see the lush, wide-sweeping exteriors, often-italicized orange or yellow rustic fonts, and hear a Jesse Frederick theme, you know you're watching an M/B show.
Actually, to reword a quote this wonderful Jesse Frederick/Bennett Salvay theme, sparks WERE indeed flying from Going Places' heels, come mid-season of the show. While the series had started at about #50 in the Nielsens, the ratings soon rose after changes to the show's cast and plot took place in January. 'Places' nearly cracked the Top 30 during February sweeps, and for a while it seemed that it had a future at ABC.
(cont'd) In March, ABC put Going Places on hiatus, in favor of trying out the long-delayed Baby Talk in its time slot. Baby Talk wound up trumping 'Places' ratings in that 9:30 TGIF slot, and ABC wanted to renew it. With a strong set of new comedy pilots for the fall of 1991, time slot availability was tight for possible renewals..and ultimately, 'Places' lost out. I think this series would have been a better choice to stick with, since Baby Talk was soon revamped in light of its bad reviews.
@VaultMasterDBT Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but wasn't ABC in the same situation with The Green Hornet more than 20 years before? I read that the network did want to renew 'Hornet,' except that both Bill Dozier and Van Williams wanted to expand it to an hour. I also heard that as with Going Places, time slot availability was tight for the renewals, and 'Hornet' lost out. If you could expand on that, it'd be wonderful :)
I've wondered. He is cute, lol. I could see he and Hallie becoming an item on the show, which is ironic because both happen to be Jews. Somehow though, I had a feeling that Alan and Hallie's characters had a closer connection..
In the January 1991 version, I don't think Chris Castile was included. After Hallie Todd, the order was changed to: Keanan, Vinovich, MacKenzie, Levine ("The New Job") and then Keanan, Daniels, Vinovich, MacKenzie, Levine (beginning with "New Kid on the Block"). Castile appeared in fewer episodes than the other mid-season additions, so I think he was only billed in the closing.
The Santa Monica Yacht Harbor entrance at 0:05 appears prominently in the opening of another ABC program: Marcus Welby, MD. It appears in the latter show as Dr. Welby is driving to work.
Do you think we'll see a DVD release of Going Places any time in the near future?
Solid cast. But that can't make up for inadequate writing.

Yes, but it's an opinion that is incorrect and uninformed. Sorry,

This was a great show with potential, but for three seasons no show could fill the TGIF void left by Just the Ten of Us until Mr. Cooper in 1993.

They cancelled Just The Ten of Us for this? PFFT!!!

Alan Rudd- Ferris Bueller's Day off and Spin City,
Heather Locklear- Melrose Place and Spin City,
Hallie Todd - Mom on Lizzie McGuire
Holland Taylor - Countless Shows.
Staci Keanan - My Two Dads and Step by Step...
Those were just what I could think of on top of my head.

going places....what a title....this series went absolutely nowhere and was erased from our memories by it's cancellation in the spring of 1991...

They were M/B trademarks. However, on Full House, Bob Saget drove in the opposite direction.

We gotta have the other version that had Steve Vinovich, J.D. Daniels, Philip Charles McKenzie, and Christopher Castile w/o Holland Taylor.
