Were you able to submit yours? I had mine uploaded and playing on my channel by 11:45. But no matter how many times I refreshed and logged in and out it still wouldn't show up as a choice to enter on the contest page. :(

I finally sent "project:direct" an email and begged for them to consider it, despite the fact I couldn't submit through their page.

Maybe they'll cut me some slack ...

I had exactly the same problem. I uploaded my video at 11:50 pm (ten minutes before the deadline) but was not given it as a choice on my page until about 12:15 (25 minutes later)! Only to find out that I could have submitted directly on the "project direct" page without uploading to my page first! I CALLED YOUTUBE at 650-343-2960 immediately to complain but their mailbox was full.

Hopefully the people running the contest will take into account the time you uploaded it to your channel and let people who made the deadline enter even if the couldn't submit on the contest page ...

I KNEW I might encounter problems uplaoding, or waiting for it to process, ect, so.. one hour before the deadline, I started teh upload.. I had the "confirmation" screen pop up about 5 minutes until the exact deadline!!

I need to clear that last statment: I STARTED RENDERING at 11 A.M, but my ANCIENT (when 1.5 ghz emerged) COMPUTER KEPT CRASHING during the render. .. TEN FREAKING HOURS OF ATTEMPTING To RENDER and having to reset my computer! I finally settled on rendering a "draft" version that would take about 20 minutes. The quality is HORRIBLE, and the sound was ruined in places, but I got to submit it.

A big concern is the YouTubers VOTING for the final 20: has P:D considered that there are MANY YouTubers that.. CHEAT.. just to get views and subscribers..

now MONEY is at stake..

I'm worried about the chances at a 'fair' voting (by actual viewers not bots or dozens of - or a hundred - fake accounts) if some CHEAT to win. Maybe the voting system takes this into account.

I think it should have been the Reitman and panel as final judges, less corruption that way

I think it's important that all 20 films shortlisted must be watched before YouTubers can vote. After all you wouldn't vote in a talent show after watching one performance. It seems that channels with a large number of subscribers recieve huge amounts of hits, while others run the risk of being overlooked. Just hope the voting doesn't work the same way.

(AND i'm composing my own score when necessary) It may not be the story I wanted to do, but at least I get to try SOMETHING for this contest!

What is the point of this contest?

Film making is not about challenge or competition, it is an art form and a method of creative expression. These contests all too often seem like a way for a young filmmaker to be given a break, although they don't realize that being successful doesn't depend on waiting for someone to give you a break, it depends on following through your ambition and vision and making your own path to success.
